I used to get those a LOT when I was younger, and for no particular reason.

That's a good question, Mr SP. I'd like to know the scientific answer to that as well.

Anyone?

I used to get them all the time in high school. I have no idea what caused them, but I have heard that sinus dryness can cause them like Shiroi said. I've also heard that they can be caused by a lack of potassium, but I'm not sure about that either. Good luck!

I'm not sure, I always meant to try it, but I always forgot to eat the bananas.

Auuuugggghhhh-sorry, double post. On an unrelated note, is there a way for me to delete posts like this in the future, or do I have to leave them? :comp:

Usually younger people get nosebleeds more often, and from what I've seen dryness or extreme altitudes can set them off. (all from my experience with my brother, the nosebleed master. >.>)

nosebleeds can be caused by the mucous membrane of the nose getting dry and cracking. happens a lot more often this time of year. also allergies can help cause them

I don't know scentificly, but if you follow anime lore, it's because you're thinking dirty thoughts. Not that I'm accusing you, no offence meant. ^^;;

You also get nosebleeds if you have lots of stress, such as when you don't sleep enough. I get them often these days because I barely sleep every day :( 5:30am right now too.

Now tell me...your sure that you arent being punched in the face by a ghost? The number of nosebleeds due to being punched in the nose by ghosts has gone up almost 43% this year...

The number one cause of nosebleeds, is nose pickin', keep the fingers out, and ther'll be no reason to pout!

Everyone body's doin' it! Doin' it! Pick their nose and chewin' it! Chewin' it!

Two days ago I had the king of all nosebleeds. It was awful. The stuff was just pouring out. When I finally removed the blood clot, it was the size of a mouse!! First time I was scared enough to cry in a long time. Then, yesterday, I got another one. Opposite nostril, this time, and average intensity, but still. Anyway, sorry if my story grossed you out.

I would get nose bleeds in Jr High or sometimes with a cold in the late 60s.
When I joined the fire department and started riding ambulance I would run into some of the most massive nose bleeds.
If someones blood pressure was high it looked like someone turned on a faucet. Towels would get soaked and basins were filled and we had to keep the patient from gaging and choaking on their blood to the hospital.
When the paramedics came into being if we had to call for them because of the amount of blood a patient was losing because IVs had to be put into the patient and they would transport the patient and we would clean up and return to the station

I used to get them all the time around winter break. What usually caused it for me was going from the cold weather into dry heated room. That would cause, for me, the membranes to crack or whatevert, making it bleed. Also, a number of factors can cause a nose bleed-- including being hit :P

Well, since Doc Shooby Holiday won't answer, I'll try my hand.

*puts Dave Barry cap on*

Nosebleeds occur whenever there errupts a dispute between the Labor nose cells and Management nose cells. When Labor feels screwed over (ie, not enough moisture, vacation or healthcare benefits), they go into a revolt and under the leadership of the VI Lenin of the Nose, they start a bloody revolution and slaughter the Management in the streets (or in this case, the nosehairs, your nose lacking asphalt and all that). No, in case you were wondering, that blood is not the blood of the management. After the victory, the Labor gets drunk with giddy excitement and celebrate with red vodka (red being the color of the People (tm)). But Nose Labor can't stomach their alcohol very well, so they vomit en masse all their vodka together. And that's why you have nosebleeds.

I have a friend who is sort of haemophiliac (not a real haemophiliac, but about halfway there or so) and he was saying once that he's actually had nosebleeds go on for so long that he's become light-headed from the blood loss.

So be thankful you're not a haemophiliac, or that annoying nosebleed might be a lethal nosebleed.

Anyway, read up on nosebleeds at WebMD (webmd.com).
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

I never had one, but my sister used to get them durring the summer. Most of the time it was because she never blew her nose to get rid of the excess.
