A. That the the saying of "Merry Christmas" is made out to be the glue of Western civilization.
B. That the controversial issue of American religious heritage is taken completely for granted.
C. That people of other religions are essentially told to stick it in their ear.
You guessed it, children. The answer is "All of the above."

(we are right in the middle of Hannukah I think, I have seen it announced on the news anyways...)

Quoted for truth a second time. XD While I tend to dislike the politically correct movement, I think that people make such a huge deal out of this, when it's really not that important. It's not like the world's going to explode if someone gets their season's greetings mixed up. That aside, for the umpteenth time, America was not founded on Christianity. XD

you guys are seriously over reacting....-_-
ITS A JOKE. A song.
I mean you guys laugh at stupid things that are morally offensive.....but when something like this is posted you all wig out...
It's almost like you guys look for things to argue about...and be snide about to add to that. Gosh.
Can't somone post something like this without everyone FREAKING out and calling out "AHH OFFENSIVEEE!!!!1111"
It's not Anti-other holidays. Its just PRO CHRISTmas. That's all.
I would add another thought...but If I say anymore the thread will probably get locked.
ChristianKitsune wrote:umm what Government class have you been too? O_o I do know that the Ten Commandments were at least something that our laws were founded on... And where did those come from?
I would like some proof (Aside from Wikipedia) that states that our Country wasn't founded on some parts of Christianity.
I have been taught my entire life, in high school, and even in my college classes, that our country WAS founded on some parts from Christianity.
And I believe the song says, "Religious Heritage" And that is true. Why did the Pilgrims leave England? For Religous Freedom. So they could worship God the way that they wanted to.... if that's not religious heritage, I don't know what is.
Radical Dreamer wrote:Er, what? XD I don't think anyone was really over-reacting. From what I can see, everyone that's responded thus far has only done so in a calm, collected manner. Only one person has said that he was offended by the video thus far, but that's...it. The rest of us are just pointing out some of the inaccuracies within the video. I didn't find the video particularly funny, but I see some other people did, and that's fine. Whatever. I just stated why I didn't particularly agree with some of the claims it was making. XD I really don't think anyone's "wigging out" about anything. XD
What worries me more is this accusation of "looking at stupid things that are morally offensive." Who and what, exactly? O_o
Nate wrote:Apparently a government class better than the one YOU'VE been to. I'm sick and TIRED of this ABSOLUTE LIE being repeated parrot-like by naive Christians. Let's take a look at the Ten Commandments, shall we?
First, we can take off the first two. The First Amendment says that Congress can pass NO LAWS establishing a religion, so "You shall have no other gods before me" and "You shall not make idols" are gone, as is "Keep the Sabbath day holy" and "Don't take the Lord's name in vain." Wow, four commandments gone already.
There is no law saying children HAVE to obey their parents, but it's generally held that parents run the lives of the kids, so I'll give that one half credit. So out of half the Commandments so far, there's only .5 that are laws.
Don't murder. Okay, that one is obviously a law. Don't steal. That's a law too. Two points. Don't commit adultery. There isn't really a law prohibiting adultery (just that it gets the other spouse more stuff in court), so that doesn't count.
Don't lie. Well, you can lie, but you can't do it under oath. So I'll give this one half credit too.
Don't envy other people's stuff. Capitalism (the economical system which we adhere to) is BUILT around envying other people's stuff. Keeping up with the Joneses.
So wow. Out of the Ten Commandments only 2 count, and two half credit ones. How can you POSSIBLY say the laws of this country are based on the Ten Commandments? And to even FURTHER discredit your statement, people in countries that have never even HEARD of Christianity even have rules against murdering and stealing!
They're not based on the Ten Commandments, they're just common sense laws that EVEN ATHEISTS admit are necessary to a functional society.
"Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the common law." - Thomas Jefferson
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" - First Amendment to the Constitution
That should be sufficient proof, one of the Founding Fathers and our founding document.
You were taught wrong.
The Pilgrims left England to avoid the Church of England, a national church that was REQUIRED by all citizens to be a member of. This is why the Founding Fathers set up an EXTREMELY secular government, to ensure that NO RELIGION would be the foundation of our country.
