Hey everyone. Cool video someone sent me. Spread it around if you'd like (but don't go searching the site; it's still YouTube):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJxQhfeU3I0

And it's true. It's called "CHRISTmas" with a capital "C."

What disturbs Nick about this video?

A. That the the saying of "Merry Christmas" is made out to be the glue of Western civilization.
B. That the controversial issue of American religious heritage is taken completely for granted.
C. That people of other religions are essentially told to stick it in their ear.

You guessed it, children. The answer is "All of the above."

Quoted for truth.

The contents of this video are much more offensive to me than "Happy Holidays", which Christians have never had a problem with saying until recently.

Not really.
Christmas and the other holidays are celebrated on Different days in December (we are right in the middle of Hannukah I think, I have seen it announced on the news anyways...)

So to say, "Merry Christmas" really isn't leaving anyone out, especially after the next week or so. ^^;

Nick echoes my sentiments on this video. Especially the "Christianity is our country's heritage" thing...way to completely ignore your American history classes, guys!
(we are right in the middle of Hannukah I think, I have seen it announced on the news anyways...)

Hanukkah is different in that it doesn't fall on the same day each year on the Gregorian calendar, but does on the Hebrew calendar (the 25th of Kislev). I think, and I may be wrong, but I wiki'd it and apparently this year the first day of Hanukkah is the 16th of December. So not quite in the Hanukkah season yet.

I really don't see what the big deal is about "Happy holidays." I think it's funny how Christians say "Oh I don't care if the word Christmas offends you I'll say it anyway!" but when someone says "Happy holidays" we suddenly become offended. That's extremely hypocritical.

Quoted for truth a second time. XD While I tend to dislike the politically correct movement, I think that people make such a huge deal out of this, when it's really not that important. It's not like the world's going to explode if someone gets their season's greetings mixed up. That aside, for the umpteenth time, America was not founded on Christianity. XD

While I wouldn't say the video "offends" me, per se, I would agree with you in saying that it's strange that Christians have always said a mixture of "Merry Christmas," "Happy Holidays," and "Season's Greetings" until this became an issue. XD Crazy stuff.

me really like it! I don't really mind being told happy holidays, but I don't like that people are beginning to be more flexive to all people, if you didn't know crime in teenagers has increased about 30 or more percent in the last 50 years, and guess what the other pattern is, people have been getting further and further away from Christ. It makes me sick to my stomack when I hear the government wanting to erase IN GOD WE TRUST on the bills, or for a club meating at my school, we heald up a sign to tell everyone once a week in the morning before school began that the Christian club would be meeting and that they would report it to the principal so that we could only say that the club was meeting....grrr. Its not like I was offending them by telling Christians to come in, if you don't want to come, then don't come....so if you don't see were I'm going is that Christians now days are blending in too well with the world around them, and now it takes at least 39 people to influence a person to a point were they will accept Christ. So yeah, I don't mind respecting their holidays, just don't take it as far as to invade our lives and the constitution....if you know what I mean

I don't understand how those statistics correlate to what someone calls this time of year. I really doubt those 30% more teenagers are like, "Oh my gosh, I can't say Merry Christmas anymore]...and now it takes at least 39 people to influence a person to a point were they will accept Christ.[/QUOTE]

Can I get stats on that? XD I think the number of people God brings into a person's life that lead that person to their eventual salvation is fairly arbitrary. It probably isn't something you can count, as that's something that has to do with God's will, not ours. XD

oh...boy...
you guys are seriously over reacting....-_-
ITS A JOKE. A song.

I mean you guys laugh at stupid things that are morally offensive.....but when something like this is posted you all wig out...

It's almost like you guys look for things to argue about...and be snide about to add to that. Gosh.
Can't somone post something like this without everyone FREAKING out and calling out "AHH OFFENSIVEEE!!!!1111"

It's not Anti-other holidays. Its just PRO CHRISTmas. That's all.

umm what Government class have you been too? O_o I do know that the Ten Commandments were at least something that our laws were founded on... And where did those come from?

I would like some proof (Aside from Wikipedia) that states that our Country wasn't founded on some parts of Christianity. I have been taught my entire life, in high school, and even in my college classes, that our country WAS founded on some parts from Christianity. Maybe not in everything but a great deal of it.

And I believe the song says, "Religious Heritage" And that is true. Why did the Pilgrims leave England? For Religous Freedom. So they could worship God the way that they wanted to.... if that's not religious heritage, I don't know what is.

I would add another thought...but If I say anymore the thread will probably get locked.

Er, what? XD I don't think anyone was really over-reacting. From what I can see, everyone that's responded thus far has only done so in a calm, collected manner. Only one person has said that he was offended by the video thus far, but that's...it. The rest of us are just pointing out some of the inaccuracies within the video. I didn't find the video particularly funny, but I see some other people did, and that's fine. Whatever. I just stated why I didn't particularly agree with some of the claims it was making. XD I really don't think anyone's "wigging out" about anything. XD

What worries me more is this accusation of "looking at stupid things that are morally offensive." Who and what, exactly? O_o

Apparently a government class better than the one YOU'VE been to. I'm sick and TIRED of this ABSOLUTE LIE being repeated parrot-like by naive Christians. Let's take a look at the Ten Commandments, shall we?

First, we can take off the first two. The First Amendment says that Congress can pass NO LAWS establishing a religion, so "You shall have no other gods before me" and "You shall not make idols" are gone, as is "Keep the Sabbath day holy" and "Don't take the Lord's name in vain." Wow, four commandments gone already.

There is no law saying children HAVE to obey their parents, but it's generally held that parents run the lives of the kids, so I'll give that one half credit. So out of half the Commandments so far, there's only .5 that are laws.

Don't murder. Okay, that one is obviously a law. Don't steal. That's a law too. Two points. Don't commit adultery. There isn't really a law prohibiting adultery (just that it gets the other spouse more stuff in court), so that doesn't count.

Don't lie. Well, you can lie, but you can't do it under oath. So I'll give this one half credit too.

Don't envy other people's stuff. Capitalism (the economical system which we adhere to) is BUILT around envying other people's stuff. Keeping up with the Joneses.

So wow. Out of the Ten Commandments only 2 count, and two half credit ones. How can you POSSIBLY say the laws of this country are based on the Ten Commandments? And to even FURTHER discredit your statement, people in countries that have never even HEARD of Christianity even have rules against murdering and stealing!

They're not based on the Ten Commandments, they're just common sense laws that EVEN ATHEISTS admit are necessary to a functional society.
I would like some proof (Aside from Wikipedia) that states that our Country wasn't founded on some parts of Christianity.

"Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the common law." - Thomas Jefferson

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" - First Amendment to the Constitution

That should be sufficient proof, one of the Founding Fathers and our founding document.
I have been taught my entire life, in high school, and even in my college classes, that our country WAS founded on some parts from Christianity.

You were taught wrong.
And I believe the song says, "Religious Heritage" And that is true. Why did the Pilgrims leave England? For Religous Freedom. So they could worship God the way that they wanted to.... if that's not religious heritage, I don't know what is.

The Pilgrims left England to avoid the Church of England, a national church that was REQUIRED by all citizens to be a member of. This is why the Founding Fathers set up an EXTREMELY secular government, to ensure that NO RELIGION would be the foundation of our country.
