It's almost like it was planned. The question is, did we learn anything?

You're totally right!

Yes. We can talk about love all we want, but it's useless (and even absurd) unless we are practicing it.

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." (1 Cor. 13:1)

Your breath's like wine,
And just like clouds, my skin crawls.
It's so divine, the sky it glows with fields of light.
Did you know that I love you?
Come and lay with me.
I love you.
And all this day, I will love you.
You make me feel alive,
and I'll love you
Until the end of time.

I would also like to say though,The lord has said, before,If you have something against your brethren,Go to him and talk to him about it,Or it may not be helped,It also shows how much you love your brethren if you really are willing to talk to them about the troubles you have about them. (I think I put that right,Forgive me I am very tired and I'm trying to think.)

I don't necessarily agree with you. What's the opposite of hate then? According to this article below:

http://www.myjewishlearning.com/texts/Weekly_Torah_Commentary/kitavo_artson5762.htm

...the opposite of hate is law, according to the most *cough cough* accomplished, powerful and thoughtful ppl. :eh: Eh, ok if that's what they think. I mostly disagree because it doesn't make much sense to me, even after reading the whole article.

But but but, anyway....I don't want to get caught in this type of discussion ('opposite or not bla bla").

IMO, it's more important to consider the receiving end of the love/hate, rather than the action itself. Consider ----> "Loving sin/hating ppl" vs "Loving ppl/hating sin"

It's not so much whether how much you hate or how much you love. I'm more interested in "what" you love or hate. Hopefully, it's consistent with the Bible.

And ah yes, gotta walk the talk. I need to improve in that area.

Well said.

I do not believe that emotions have opposites. Emotions do not oppose each other.

Even still, emotions can oppose each other in certain situations which could be useful for illustration.

For example, the "opposite of love is apathy" example sighted earlier. If one is trying to encourage another to look after the needy - as in the "Almost helping is not the same as helping" commercials on TV right now, then the "opposite of love is apathy" statement works in this context.

However, it does not work in every context. My lack of interest, for example, in the latest Max Lucado book does not indicate a failure in my ability to love Max Lucado.

So, I would put forth that, when used in the correct context, hate and love are opposites and so are love and apathy.

However, in the absence of a context, we should take care not to generalize too much to avoid confusion.

When I agreed with Nate's statement (that apathy is the opposite of love), I was thinking in the context of a person that you know or have interaction with, not someone "out there" that you've never met, like an author. For instance, when I was younger I had moments of hatred for my father. Now, if I didn't care a whit about my father, I would not have hated him. But because I loved him, I hated him sometimes. Does that make any sense?

In a way, it's possible to love and hate someone simultaneously. It is not possible to love someone and have apathy for them simultaneously.

My dad is the same way, Eirewolf. He's kind of difficult at times, but I still care about him too. So it makes perfect sense to me.
