Went to the baptist church for a change today...

Postby Jon Clement » Sun Apr 23, 2006 7:00 pm

Man, it was pretty good. I've been gonig to the mormon church for a few weeks, but every time I've gone up there, I've felt more depressed than the last week... Probably becuase they have too many rituals...

I liked the music. It was more more fun to sing and listen to than in the mormon church. They played guitars instead of the organ... But my runescape friend who goes there was sick today so I didn't see him. :( Met a couple young boys there... They were fun to talk to... Didn't see any girls, though... :(

Overall, it was great...

Well, you don't go to church to meet girls, you go to worship the Almighty Lord. :P

Just a hint from one of teh women folks-- (XD) girls really don't want to feel that a guy came to their church to find a girl. There's one fellow in my church who, for years, all the girls were pretty confident attended for the purpose of pusuing the cute girls. We were all severely weirded out by him and avoided him at all cost. To an extent, we were insulted by his tactics and shallow intentions. Futhermore, if you act overtly interested in a girl you simply spotted at a church, she's gonna know you're just interested in her because she was pretty. Most church going girls aren't interested in just finding a guy who wants some "hot chick." Or, atleast, I for one won't be interested in such a fellow.

Commit to the church God wants you to be in and trust that he'll bring a girl to you. Trusting God with that will cause the outcome to be best.

Also, something to consider, the other day one of my girly-girl friends and I were discussing relationships. She was telling me she was reading a book that was sort of mediocre on the topic, but there was a chapter which really affect her a lot. The basic point of the chapter was "If you can't be content when you're not in a relationship-- you'll never be happy in one." Because, the basic thinking behind the "If he/she only loved me, then I know that I'd be happy" is that that person will complete you. They will fulfill you. But the truth is that if you're looking for another person to make you whole, you're always going to be incomplete, because imperfect people are never going to give us all of what we want. They will always disappoint. They will always fall short. I've finally come to a point where I'm happy being who I am as a single young woman, joyful in the fact that I am ravishing in the sight of God, and that if I seek first his kingdom then he WILL add all other things unto me. And no-- that doesn't mean I will most certainly become married, but it does mean I will be content in whatever curcuimstance God sets me in. That makes me happy.

So, um, there's my 4 somewhat off-topic yen. XD I hope you find the church Christ wants you in!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. True that. I don't have a girlfriend, never have. I don't think one would complete me, but I do think I would be a little more happy. But first I have to learn to love myself and be content with Jesus. The time will come.

Jon, good to hear you enjoyed church. I hope you get to know some people there, that can encourage, support and pray for you. God Bless mate!

I guess... But I still REALLY REALLY want a girlfriend... <snipped>

Note by Osaka: After considerable thought, I've decided to snip that last phrase. It's not that I don't appreciate your zeal for finding a woman who is upset by the things which God has declared unholy, but I feel such statements are going to be inflammatory and take away from the topic of the thread.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I don't want a boy friend, nor am I saying it's wrong for you to want a girlfriend. However, what I am saying is that if you're not content without a woman, you're going to cheat her when you get in a relationship with one, because she will always have to live under the weight of making you complete. When we look to other people to make us whole, we place a crushing pressure on them. Until you're happy without her, you won't be happy with her, and she won't be able to be happily herself in your presence. :)

Hey, man, you got plenty of time. Focus on school and college and all that other stuff, and just wait for God to bring you someone if that is what He intends.

Don't take life so seriously brother, just do what you have to and act the way God would want you to. Stay cool, okay?

Well, sometimes we just have to stop and be thankful for what we have.

Like, for example, the movie Clash of the Titans. I swear that is the greatest movie ever made. Watch that and it will turn that frown upside down, mein friend.

Glad that you found a church that you enjoy bro! Tho a word of advice froma guy whos been around the block a few more times than you yes Christian girls are awsome but if you really want a relashinship to last you can't be shalow about it and no girl (that I think is worth it) will find you attractive if you plan on going to church for the girls and not God. Besides bro your only 16 right? Most high school relashinships don't last even when you want them to. When you do find that special girl be prepaired for some heart ach because to experence it to its glorous full extent you have to be just as willing to get hurt as she is and that meens opening yourself up to alot of thigs and after that you can never look back. If you don't give your all to her that just isn't fair to her or yourself and if you really do love/like her don't you want the best for her when you meet? well that ends my rant and such thank you for reading my thoughts.

Then employ your brain in more contructive pursuit. I sometimes get lost in thinking about things that just get my upset and fidgety. It's at that point that I go and read my Bible and think about things that are going to have eternal consequence. Why not try memorize a large passage of scripture? I'm memorizing an epistle, and it's a great way to employ otherwise wasted time!

Theres a good saying I heard

"If you can't stand to be by yourself. What makes you think someone else can stand being with you?

Kind of a humerous saying, but there's a lot of truth to that.

Yeah, but it'll be worth the wait. Become a good man-- the kind whom a good woman would feel blessed to one day be able to call her husband. Even if that day is many days down the road, don't jump the gun. Wait it out, become a confident and strong man of God, and you will most certainly find the Princess of the house of Christ whom you're intended to live with happily as long as you both shall live.

I am really glad to hear that you enjoyed going to a Baptist Church today, for more reasons than one, I might add. While I don't wish to be rude, there are probably several reasons that you keep feeling depressed going to a Mormon church. Prime one being that Mormons are not Christian. Besides denouncing the doctrine of the Trinity, they deny that the Bible is the only authoritative and infallible Word of God and they believe that, through the proper rituals and a pious life, a human can become a god, just like God himself, only less advanced than Him (but progressing to His state eventually). It sounds strange, but I assure you that is what they teach. While the LDS church is full of family values and is very friendly (as well as very willing to help you find someone to marry, eventually), they are not Christian, insist as they might that they are. The Baptist church, while not necessarily the best dating environment, is a far better place spiritually.

They do promise that, something they claim to accomplish through secret temple ceremonies, just as they promise a man and his wife will be together (and become gods) through secret temple ceremonies. A nice idea and very attractive, but utterly unbiblical. While the Christian church will agree that Christians will see each other in eternity (thus families of Christians will see each other after they die), ceremonies sealing families together for time and eternity are not existant in our church or the Bible. Our hope is Christ, not godhood or eternal families, and I personally much prefer Christ. I'd make a terrible god, and Christ is a perfect and holy God.

I was born and raised in that religion.
Out of it now. :P

Not everything that sounds nice is nice after a closer look or thinking it through-- nor is it necessarily real.

There are so many conditions for achieving those "forever families" that basically every Mormon family would be split up in various kingdoms of glory anyway, if it were true.

And to be worthy, you have to pay a full tithe (10 percent of income), abstain from all coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, proclaim that Joseph Smith was a porphet of God, that Gordon B. Hinkley is the current prophet of God, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is the true church, not be sympathetic to "enemies of the Church", procalim that the Book of Mormon is true, and be sexually pure to even get into a temple to go through those required rituals to be dealed to family members.

That's just to get into a temple.

After that, you need to be as close to perfect as you possibly can, or else Heavenly Father won't forgive you. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ only kicks into effect "after all that you can do." And there is a whole lot you have to do in Mormonism.
It's so concentrated on rules. Even moreso, it's focused on appearances of holiness and spirituality. It's horrible.

And your other family members obviously have to go through it too. Or else you'll not be all together in Heaven.

Some men have many wives in the herafter according to their doctrine too. Polygamists were sealed to their wives for eternity. So, yeah. Not exactly equal there.

Are some of 'em nice people? Of course. And the people are generally sincere.
But the organization is so full of deceit, it's just sad. :(

But, you see, if your family is Christian then you will be able to see each other forever. In fact, for us the entire Church will be a family forever, loving and serving God and being with Him forever. We will be in communion with God, everything you could want from a family and more will be there. The love, kindness, gentleness, community, everything good we want will be there, and it will all be perfect. When God establishes His kingdom there will be nothing bad and everything good. Our families here are wonderful and good, but they are but pale reflections of the true good God will show us in eternity. The mormon church tempts people with images of good things in this life, families and marriages that will never last, a community that supports you, a good moral background, and they offer godhood if you do what they tell you to. The Christian Church offers riches in God's kingdom, riches beyond what you could ever want or imagine. While it doesn't have as much of an appeal in the immediate sense, it is a far better thing than what the LDS church claims to offer.

Ya, I hate all the rules...

But it just makes me sick to think that people who die before they get children of their own never ever get children ever... It makes me a trembling wreck... I get so insane over it, I actually was laughing over litterally "cutting the mustard"... And I could hear the insanity in my laugh...

I can see where your coming from Jon. I have often thought to myself, "What will happen if Jesus returns before I have a girlfriend, get married and have kids?" But then I remember that in the scheme of things it doesn't matter. We're going to live with Jesus our Creator and Redeemer forever! Now that is amazing. Everything else pales in comparison.
