I can buy a brush and some ink for about $3 US at a local outlet. Sharpies are also nice and widely available.

Where are you between cheap and good?

(I use simple black gel pens and they work very well. Either those or my wonderful fine-point pens my dad gave me that I have no clue where you would find.)

(So I would recomend just trying a black gel pen (or "gel stick" as my specific ones are called). Goodness knows they're cheap enough, and if you don't like them then no big deal.)

I see...my friend uses calligraphy pens...which I really like and want a set, but I don't get out to get any and I'm broke....so, anything along that line?

Hmm, you might try a cartooning pen. They are like felt pens with an elongated tip so you can create tapering or widening lines, similar to a caligraphic pen. Many street caricature artists use them too. I've never shopped for them myself though, so I'm not sure where to look.
