Hmm. Well, I personally do not know of any code we talk in. What sort of things are you hearing?

I have the feeling that quite a few guys would say the exact same thing about girls. ;)

But I can't say that I ever remember talking in code around girls.

Generally, I would put the idea of "code" talk down to nerves or just normal behavior. Most guys I know don't usually have hidden meanings behind their words when they talk, but it does happen occasionally. I would suggest you just assume they are just being occasionally inscrutiable to the opposite gender (which is normal) unless you have a good reason to assume otherwise.

Is it possible that it is merely the way they talk to each other naturally? My friends and I have a ton of inside and obscure references that we use which most people, male or female, who are not a member of our group would not really get. This may be what you are hearing.

Case in point. You might hear this at my workplace (well, you might have a few months ago):

"Doug Masters, want to make a run to the water store?"

1) There has never been anyone at my workplace named Doug Masters.

2) What is "the water store"?

Answers:

1) "Doug Masters" is our nickname for a (former) co-worker.

2) "The water store" is a term Doug Masters came up with for the gas station across the street. He has on many occasions been the one to make "a run" there for refreshments.

I think some guys (especially teenaged ones) just don't know how to act around girls, so they act weird.

well being female, i can say that it's definatly the girls who talk in code! i mean, seriously, we talk in code so bad, especially in front of guys. guys think we dont know when we catch on to them liking us. then we play dumb the whole time to see how serious they are, and then act all surprised when they finally get up the guts to tell us. I mean, sometimes i dont even need to talk in code, just give one of my other female friends "the look" and she knows exacty what im trying to say. and then of course, there's "yeah, ya know that thing with the stuff?" a female friend would know what the "thing" was based on the intonation of how this "thing" was mentioned, but a guy would be totally left in the dark.

"Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah."

According to a rock star on one episode of the Jetsons, that's code for "I love you."

That's the only code us guys use... Or am I alone in thinking this? ;)

hm... i don't really know of any code i speak in, except for perhaps leetspeek or g4m3r talk... and my sister can understand me quite well (out of nessesity, methinks).

however, i would too say that girls have the code talk thing.... i mean, my sister will change to sign language or german when she talks with her friends sometimes, and both are inconquerable cyphers, as far as i'm concerned...

now for guys talking in code when they are around girls... let me see...*runs through approxamation of my conversation i have with hte oposite gender*
"whassup?" "kewl." "i dunno, i think i'm doing good in my classes, but i have a test next week. after that, though - LAN PARTY!" "yes, i know i'm a g33k." "sure that would be teh awesome." ""w00t!" "so, you have a dog? i didn't know that! what type of dog is he?" "i'm hungry... hmm. what to eat..." "aha! i have a stash of chaocolate covered granola ars in my car! you want some?" "Ok, but if you want one, just ask. i've got a lifetime supply." "alrighty then ttyl." *does cartwheel, moon walk, or hyper active leaping when exiting building for f00d*

so that's an approxamation. if you spot a code, please inform me!

That may have been more of a "Dude, get out of here" glare, which happened in my time when a guy wanted spend some time alone with a girl he liked. Wasn't a code, but more of making the other guy uncomfortable and leave.

Of course since I don't know your friends, I have no idea if this applies to them.

Yeah...it seems to be more subliminal messages than a direct code.
