Yakitate!! Japan

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Tue Mar 28, 2006 4:54 pm

Oh my goodness! WHO LIKES THIS ANIME? I absolutely LOOOOVVEEE it. It is so hilarious, as it takes so many spoofs from other things. (So far they have spoofed One Peice, DBZ, Gundam, Initial D, and a few others)

The story is basically about this boy named Azuma Kazuma. And he posses the SOLAR HANDS! Special hands he was born with that are exceptionally warm! Which allows a MUCH QUICKER yeast fermentation when making bread! Yes bread. This is an anime about bread! Cooking! It does sound kind of lame, but a lot of plot-type thingies occur. And make the anime spectacular. Plus the reactions, basically, when somebody eats something delicious. They will have a reaction! Like hallucinating that you're surfing, or imagining yourself in a garden. Some reactions also let you travel through time (yes, scary isnt it?)

It's filled with bread, bread, bread and more bread! And afros, big muscles, random samurai bakers, wiggily fingers, more afros, and tons of laughs.

So, ahem. Regaining my composure. Anyone seen or read Yakitate Japan?

I've got the last few raw episodes ready to watch, and still looking around for chapters into volume 18. I hope viz doesnt take any shortcuts on the translation of reactions as they're all based on corny puns.

Yes, with all the Japanese Puns, I wonder how they will beable to work around them. Hopefully they will keep the original pun, and have a lot of "translators notes". But I see it possible for a couple of puns to work out well.

I've read a ways into the manga. It's pretty entertaining.
I remember references to Detective Conan, Konjiki no Gash Bell!, and Galaxy Railroad 999.

Oh yes! With the clown, who somehow became Detective Conan. I totally forgot about that. I laughed my butt off for a good 20 minutes during that part.

i've read the manga but i didn't really think it was THAT funny but that's probably cause i didn't really understand the puns and stuff. i might start on the anime but is it a LOT like the manga or do the stories differ?

a few of the reactions were changed for TV, there's a few geniunely funny filler episodes (26 in particular, the full on Gundam parody), and Yakitate 25 was shortened to Yakitate 9, making it the final arc of the show at 69 total episodes. But for the most part it is rather close to the manga.

Yeah, I like Yakitate! Japan a whole lot too! Especially for all those crazy anime parodies! But I like the characters best of all.

You guys cannot forget Takitate Gohan! The spoof of the first episode. The reactions are what make the series absolutely great. Especially the Cannabis Donut Japan. That was killer!

You said there were One Piece spoofs? What kind? I must see how this is (though I still need to watch more Azumanga to see if it's really any good...).

Ryou Kuroyanagi gets really stretchy arms and a random straw hat. It's supposed to be a pun with the type of bread he ate. Its around episode 57 or 58.

It would be nice if they did that for the subtitled track, but I doubt they'll do it in the dub. They will likely change the dub to equally bad American puns.

I caught a couple of episodes of this at a con last year and have been awaiting it's US release ever since.
