I usually can't get to sleep unless i have a fan on me (even in the winter) and there's some kind of background noise- i usually play an audio book when i go to sleep. The flip side is, i have a hard time getting up unless i can turn off the fan :)

Does anyone else have to have any unusual considerations they need to get a good night's rest?

Yep! I do! Just like you I need my fan on, and my radio...And it also needs to be pitch black. Other wise I wouldn't ever be able to get to sleep...lol I kind of remind myself of a vampire..I love darkness! And Im usually most active at night.

I've not been sleeping well lately, so I've been horribly pickly about my sleeping conditions.

No lights. Whatsoever. No sound. Whatsoever. (I had a clock that ticked and it got dismantled because it was driving me crazy the other night.) Room temperature, cold, but lots of snuggly blankets ( ^^;;; ).

I like noise, but it gets chilly to sleep with the fan on all the time. Fortunately, the servers in the apartment generate plenty of nice, regular white noise.

I keep a humidifier on low for just a little noise, and I like to have it really cold outside the bed so that I can warm up and roll up into a fetal position to go to sleep. And until I go to sleep, I'm constantly turning my pillow over again and again, because I like to have the pillow cold on my face; once it gets warm, I'm not comfortable. After I'm asleep, I don't realize it, of course.

The pillow either has to be really, really firm, or not there at all. Other than that, I'm pretty much a sleep-where-you-drop kind of person.

ok, i totally need noise, and a vaporizer, and it be cold, and it be black! i have such a small room sometimes the vaporizer makes the temperature cool enough to sleep, and i turn it on high for the noise. if not i run a fan too. i also need to be snuggled up in something, a sheet usually in the summer and a nice warm comforter in the winter :)

hmm let's see. fan on all the time...check. background noise...check *radio*. what's different with me is I can have both the fan and radio on and get up get dressed, be in my room for an hour or so beforeI realiz that they are still on....I am so going to miss these things when I'm in the AirForce. I'm gonna be burning up I know it. I can heat a bed in like 5 minutes. I have no clue why my body does that. like the last time that happened was when I was a kid. then it stopped. then just recently it hapened again. I can sleep without the fan or background noise, however I will not get a restful sleep without those things.

Just fan for me. I keep my lava lamp on sometimes but I normally have it off.

I really cannot sleep without my fan.

I read a book often to go to sleep, but I haven't had a refreshing sleep for years now due to anxiety and mild depression. Currently we are having lots of hot weather here (about 41 degrees celsius at the mo) and its really hard to sleep when its hot. Blackouts happen often but occasionally the air-conditioning stays on overnight (although it doesn't work all that well being 25 years old). Most of the time just have to make do with a water spray bottle.

Gotta have a fan/humidifier and some darkness. I used to get hot really easily but it's kind of gone away now. Still I like it reasonably cool in my room so I can snuggle up. In the summer I still have a light comforter on. I can get to sleep pretty fast, usually 10 minutes or less, if I'm in a normal state of mind and I have some background noise.

I hate it being cold. I don't mind if it's cold in the room itself if I have blankets. But if I am the least bit cold, I cannot sleep well.

I usually take a nice, refreshing shower before I head off to bed. Usually I need some ambient distraction while I am lying down, particularily with the lights out, the humidifier on and the television at low volume. If I am in total darkness, I usually get distracted by my own thoughts (which do keep me up).

Of course, I can't mention sleep without getting enough sun in the middle of the day. The more sunlight you're exposed to, the more you'll feel tired in the evening.

Ok..
I need to have all three pillows surrounding me so that anyway I turn I am still laying on one....
and I have to have the tv on foodnetwork (they don't show freaky weird stuff on that channel at ALL....) on the lowest volume setting....
that way I get light AND noise....
THEN, i can sleep.

I actually used to *require* a fan in order to go to sleep, but now it's not a problem. The bad thing is that it seems literally impossible for me to go to sleep before 10:30, no matter how tired I am. >.>

Man, I can't sleep if it's cold. It has to be JUST right :)

Which is why I only use a fan in the summer lol. But, I do need noise so my radio is also on.

I need silence and darkness. My sister has gotten really angry with me about this: the subwoofers on her computer speakers would kept me up when she lived above me, even if the sound was down really low. And I even need to turn the face of my alarm clock away from me to sleep as the light keeps me up. I can cope with light and noise, but it takes me awhile to sleep. Cold helps alot though, I need blankets of course, but I leave my windows open in the winter to cool down my room sometimes and I sleep really well.

I can't sleep when people are snoring in the same room. I can't sleep very well in warm weather (but alas, I don't have a fan in my room...), and I would prefer a cool ambient room temperature, because that's curable (with blankets.... and more blankets).

I guess some background noise would be helpful, since I have ringing in my ears.... but I think a radio would be too distracting, and a more consistent, gentle electric fan noise would be better. But at the moment, I use nothing as a noise maker.

Oh, and clock ticks are annoying. I don't have a strong preference for light/dark (provided it's not too light).

I can deal with some noise, but noises such as a lawn being mowed, people playing loud music, people talking loudly, dog barking loudly, are noises that keep me awake.

Hot temperatures at night (25 celsius +) keep me awake as well.

I can sleep with or without lights. I also need to make myself tired before I go to bed, otherwise my mind has this habit of thinking about theological / philosophical stuff and I have to consciously stop thinking about it.
