system outage 4/3/2005

Postby Mithrandir » Mon Apr 04, 2005 9:56 am

As part of a weird turn of events involving a massive poweroutage lastnight, CAA went off-line for (approximately) 12 hours. Everything is back up and running, and it looks like there aren't any major errors. Sorry for the downtime!

Also a slight hiccup at 4/4/2005 at around 10:00PM Pacific time. (Had to reconfig something...)

Another hiccup at 4/5/2005 at 7:00 PM for time zone config issues. Still doesn't work right. *grumbles*

It's fine now and thanks, but last night it crashed during a heavy bit of RPGing, and all I could think was "why NOW?" ;)

"why NOW?"

A legitimate question. So I called the company responsible for power to the facility where CAA is hosted and asked them. The resonse I got back was, "We don't really know if there were any power outages during the last 24 hours. "
I said, "Umm ALL electronic equipment in the facilty went off-line, and only the battery backed-up units suffered no downtime.; I'm reasonably sure it wasn't a fluke EMF pulse that only knocked everthing off-line. Also, there was a pretty nasty storm that raged during that time, could that have maybe had something to do with it the power outage?"
"We aren't sure of any power outages in your area."
"Does anyone else have access to the extral electrical box? I noticed that the 'tamper seal' on it was not broken."
"No sir, no one else can get into that box."
"So... Does that make it likely that there might have been an outage?"
"We aren't sure of any"

That conversation feels familiar, actually. It is good to know the cause of the downtime, however.
