Legend of Chrystania - the art on the cover was beautiful, and very misleading - everything was pathetically drawn and undetailed. The storyline was seemingly complex, because I couldn't follow it, but I had no desire to, because it wasn't interesting. I was saddened that I paid money to rent it.

For both reasons of Quality and reasons of "nastyness" I'd have to say "Dead Leaves"

For just reasons of "nastyness" I'd say the last episode of "Excel Saga" ignoring some brief clips of hentai movies I have seen. (I've never sat through a whole Hentai)

For just reasons of quality? I would say "Gigantor" but you can't diss a classic, bad as it may be.

Then there is "End of Evangelion" which left me in a deep depression for about 2 weeks...

The "cheese menu":

DB
DBZ
DBGT
Saint Seiya
SD Gundam

Some "bad" highlights, for quality and/or content, would be

Biohunter
Twilight of the Dark Master
Golgo 13: The Professional
Macross II
Appleseed
Onegai Twins
Hanaukyo Maid-tai
Green-Green
Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals

for some reason, the edit button won't show up here...

Edit 1: Lain is great, but it takes a lot of effort to understand, it is very slow, it's creepy, and it is weird... It has an extremely limited audience (though those not in its audience watch it as well, just for the "elite" status of watching an enigmatic anime/movie all the way through) I don't reccomend it to everyone, but it is one of the best anime ever made. However, I reccomend if you don't want to watch it further, just please don't talk about it... Lain should be taken as a whole, not based on individual episodes...

Being in the digisub scene previously and trusting rentals and premium cable networks to deliver my anime to me, I have seen quite a lot of "confession worthy" anime...

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Very detailed plot and deep characters, nice animation and music, etc., but new age to be all heck. I saw the whole series and both movies, and I must say End of Evangelion is the worst film I've ever seen. It is so spiritually dark.

The worst anime I have ever watched was Pokemon and the 2 episodes of DBZ that I happened to stumble upon when I was bored.

Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer The Movie. UGH. VOMIT. PAIN. TORTURE. FANSERVICE.

This was easily the most fanservicey piece of anime tripe that I've ever seen. It hurt to watch. I can't remember if we sat through the whole thing, but what little I remember about it, I hope we turned it off...

The fanservice isn't what made it horrible either. The fanservice didn't help at all, but the film itself was just poorly made and stupid at that. Fighting games shouldn't be turned into movies. Ever.

To the people that have listed anime that others like and fear that they will get stone to death by ones that love these. You can thank me later when I take all the worry away from you all.

Okay, I hope everyone is cool about this and will not stone me for it.

That's actually understandable on my part. It really requires obsession/fandom to enjoy. It's not as, capable if you will, to pick up like an easy winner such as Cowboy Bebop for example.

I'd say that there are two series that I've seen in their entirety that compete for the coveted postion of "Kali's most disliked".

The first is Serial Experiments: Lain. Yes, I saw the whole thing. Yes, I understood it. In fact, while watching it, I could quite clearly construct the shape of the plot about 1/2 to 2/3 of an episode ahead - with >.8 accuracy on all points. The thing is, I just found the spirit of depression in the series so revolting that I couldn't even enjoy (?) seeing god waste away. The show seemed designed almost to provoke people to suicide.

The other, I'll just call Ka no Mi. (Only the beginnings of the words. If you know the series, you know why I'm not even giving the name.) Basically, it starts out with a slightly weird scene between the two female leads. Short scene, not really remarked upon. It winds up the first episode with a relatively cool mecha fight. Okay, I'm thinking, it's a bit cliche, but it could be the opening to a decent mecha series. Then, one of the female leads turns on the other in "that way" - would've been a deal-breaker for me, except that the problem character is shown as having gone over to the enemy (basically, your generic world-destroying evil, so it fits), and it seems like this is just the unveiling of the character's new evil alignment. Plus, the other female lead seems to like the male lead (who came from the enemy's side, but now wants to destroy them. He declares his intent to protect the remaining female lead.), so it seems to be going okay. Anyway, by the end of the series, the guy has essentially given his life to protect the remaining girl, whom he likes, and yet both girls end up professing their love for one another. The series ends with a warp back in time to where it's as if the series hadn't happened, except that now, girl #2 is turning the guy down, and pining for the other girl. (who is no longer around.) The infuriating thing is that up until the last episode or two, the series could have been saved. It felt like the writers said, "well, we've got two possible endings for the series. Ending one is pretty good, and ending two is horrible." and the producer (or someone) said, "Let's go with horrible."

I've actually sat through a full hentai episode once. (A couple of years ago.) This series was worse. This series is one of only two that have ever gotten the "Kali-ban". If you recognize the name, I hope I've spoiled enough of the plot and conveyed enough of the horribleness that you don't ever have to go through what I did. Yes, it looks like it's getting better. Right up until it empties a huge vat of horrible right into your face. *shudders* I wish I hadn't been reminded of that series.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Does "Teen Titans" count as an anime?

Even if it doesn't count, it still annoys the heck out of me. It's overstuffed with cliche lines.. and.. and.. AHHHH!

I tend to cut kid's anime a little slack. After all, I can't believe some of the stuff I used to watch. I also tend to cut DBZ and Sailor Moon some slack because they were dailies. With 80-100 episodes per season, they had a lot more time to kill then your standard 26 episode season series. That’s a lot of work, therefore, you have more repetition and tighter animation schedules.

I still rag on these anime (although, I am also a big Sailor Moon fan), but I don’t consider either in the running for “worst.â€

Hey hey hey HEY!

Some of you here apparently don't understand the difference between what you don't like and what actually sucks. There's plenty of anime I don't give a flip about, but that doesn't make them bad. It just means I wasn't the audience they were aiming for.

And for the "kiddie" anime, again, cut them some slack. Remember that many weren't made for you (though there are some you can count as crap...), and many, MANY "kiddie" ones were edited apart, turning them into something they weren't (i.e., One Piece).

Some of you need to THINK before posting.

Now, I haven't really seen any that bad. Like I said, there's some I don't like, but nothing really bad... except Fighting Foodons. Yeah, I'm picking a kiddie show, but it really was kinda... pointless... and cliché-ish (besides the whole food monster thing, which actually a pretty interesting concept...).

Ultamite Muscle, if that even counts as anime.

I LIKED Ultimate Muscle, even if I've only seen the dub. It had unique (though REALLY odd/wierd) characters, great fights, pretty good humor (I hope; like I said, I've just seen the dub), and... some sort of plot. :p

Plus, it actually managed to do good tournaments. :D

There have been a few that I haven't liked because of their mature content (and lack of much else), but I don't think they even deserve mention here. uhm, I thought Chrno Crusade was terrible (don't finish what I don't like, but I think I gave this one 2 disks to try to impress me).

desperado wrote:also i didnt like all the eating people and bugs growing of them thing in the only episode of boogie pop phantom i saw (sorry if it got better but that one episode seriously freaked me out)

Yeah that episode is what turned me off to that series (think it was the 2nd episode), which was unfortunate since I liked their work with Lain, but oh well.

I thought that Saiyuki was the most painful thing I ever sat through. For the life of me, I can not figure out why this show is popular. The plot went nowhere, the characters were cliched, and the fights were repetitive. I could understand some of that if the show was geared towards young children, but the sexual humor raises the age bar too much for that excuse to work.

... But I also have little use for RahXephon (you know you’re in trouble when they have to produce a movie to explain what happened in the series because no one could figure it out), ...

I didn't have any problem with RahXephon. I understand pretty much everything that happened. It might take a second viewing to see connections that you glossed over the first time, but it all makes sense. The movie was actually totally worthless. There was maybe two minutes of new animation and the rest was just cutting and pasting the show into the movie with some new dialogue and a gratuitous implied sex scene.

This has been a fascinating thread to read through. Slipped under my radar screen until tonight.

I've always assumed that animes I didn't care for were simply not marketed to me, so I don't have a strict worst (unless you counted most badly mangled American market version of an anime, the prize for which has to go to either the "Battle of the Planets" original US release or the "Starblazers" original US release.) But I have a few that have really ticked me off, in ways similar to what some others have mentioned on this thread.

The number one most annoying would have to be Tenjho Tenge. Now, I really do understand that there is a market for Animes that are mostly about fanservice. I can just ignore those and watch something else. But I was talked into viewing the first disc of this one by a friend because it apparently had a really great story I would love...

Let's just say that the most annoying part about this is that IF THEY HAD JUST LEFT OUT ALLTHE FANSERVICE they would have had a really, really good series here. Just let the females be something approaching normally proportioned and sufficiently clad, and this would have been a great show that I would have probably gone out to buy every disc of. But the fanservice was so annoyingly over the top, it could not be ignored, and so, instead, I will never be watching another episode of this turkey.

Slightly less annoying, but still annoying, among recent releases would be Samurai Gun. This time, we aren't over the top, we have a show that would have been exactly the sort of show my 14 year old son loves, with lots of cool gun fights and sword play, a good plot, good artwork... but I can't even mention the show to him because of a couple times where they threw in short sequences which, although not (quite) explicit, could not be mistaken for anything other than oral sex.

Thanks, guys. I'm REALLY going to let my fourteen year old watch THAT. And it contributed absolutely no value to the story, whatsoever... And so, again, I will not be going past the first disc.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Personally, for me, it was Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Gynocyber.

I did not like them at all. Gynocyber was just a waste of my time - nothing but swear words (dubbed), sexuality, a nonsensical storyline, and brains being chewed by fake rubber insects shot in live-action.

S-Cry-Ed: The voice actors were the greatest in the world, the animation was AMAZING, but the plot (if any) and the dialogue was absolutely sickening! Kazuma was very undefined as a character, and Kanami, while being very cute, was very confusing and her constant "dreaming" was really annoying!

Reign: ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Plain and simple. Never understood it, and frankly, didn't want to! The animation was crappy, the plot was crappier, and the V/A's were awful!

One anime that I ORIGINALLY hated was "Blue Gender" but after I saw a few of the later episodes, and after I found out what happened to Marlene and Yuji, it kinda grew on me. I list it as "Tolerable"

I had the feeling that Samurai Gun wouldn't be such a great show from what I saw in the ADV preview that I saw. If the fact that there are prostitutes needs to be advertised, there's little chance that it will be a good show. The thing that confirmed that this show was doomed to be awful was when I heard that Sci Fi magazine said that it was "Rurouni Kenshin without the morals." What's the point of watching a show without any morals?

Cat Soup is probably the worst anime I've ever seen. Elfin Leid comes in second, because it's way too bloody and I didn't like any of the characters. Moeyo Ken comes in third because it's too silly and didn't have a plot.

Long post coming up. You've been warned. (Seriously, really long post...)

So I've seen a lot of posts from many different people. I would like to disagree with some and agree with others and therefore will use quotes from a lot of people. (Please don't be too mad) :)

agasfas wrote:Also another was Escaflowne the movie. My friend made me watch it and I just dosed off on that one too. Just didn't seem to interest me.
*ducks to avoid thrown objects*

Haven't watched De:Vadasy, but as for the Escaflone the movie, it was good. You know, the fight scenes that lasted 1-2 minutes. And there were about 5 of them. So... 10 minutes of the movie was good. (lol, the rest of the time I was playing World of Warcraft...)

desperado wrote:ill probably be lynched for this but i hated the end of evangelion movie (sees a giant cross thing being absorbed into an eye and shudders>

Evangelion was good... to my friends. I got bored in the second episode and saw about half of the third. Never saw the movie... don't want to. So I'm on your side on that one. :)

kaemmerite wrote:I've heard "Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals" was pretty bad...

Oh no. Not another Final Fantasy rip off...
Anyone hear of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? Yeah... I got tricked by the title... (geez just label it "The Spirits Within" or "The Main Character's Most Important Person To Her Is Going To Die At The End"...)

dareiq s'an wrote:I would have to say FLCL, or fooly cooly i think its also called, it was just so random and horrible...

Oooh... Don't say that too loud in front of some of my friends. They love that show (Probably because of the dumb randomness). But again, I saw some of it. Didn't like it. Never want to watch it. :thumb:

mechana2015 wrote:I liked that a lot actually, but mebbe thats because I'm so random and wierd.

dragonshimmer wrote:I agree that FLCL is awful, but I've also seen MOST of Lain, and that is quite possibly BOTH the strangest and worst anime that I've ever seen. Not quite up my alley, I guess.

Oie. I forced myself to watch Lain all the way through. Got very little of it but didn't like it. Seems like one of those, "I'm going to erase myself from the world" type animes. (You'll get what I mean when you watch the last episode... if you even get that far...)

Falco53 wrote:Worst anime:

Um... run.
My friend would take out a katana and start swinging at you... (lol)
Pokemon is what started me out with anime (I was young at the time... like 10...). I don't watch it anymore because it's being over played and they are going to too many seasons. (Plus I'm not a kid anymore. Blood, gore, and violence for all!!)
Hamtaro is cute... thats about it though. Don't really like it too much after that.
SD Gundam. Haven't seen. No opinion there.

Loche Achles wrote:The worst anime ive ever seen is by far Zoids (yea theres an anime) or anyone of those other "animes". They are so dreadful! I hate when they combine Computer Animation with drawings. Its SO bad!

Um.. which one? There was Zoids and then Zoids: Chaotic Century. I must say ZCC had a good storyline, but I watched more of ZCC than the original. (And Fiona was in ZCC...) ahem.

Raiden no Kishi wrote:I think it was inventive, with great mecha designs. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion.

I agree with you Raiden, although the CGs could have been better. But at the time the CGs weren't too bad for their time. Compare it now and it seems really glitchy and not as smooth and slightly polygon-ish. So I guess I'm taking both sides of this arguement? :shady:

Street wrote:Blood The Last Vampire in my opinion the worst anime I've ever seen.

I haven't seen Blood The Last Vampire, but I'm wondering, is Blood+ a sequel? Cause Blood+ is ok... if it wasn't for the mass amount of violence and blood...

Cedahlia wrote:Truthfully...Digimon, Beyblade, Zoids, Pokemon, and that Gundam stuff are all tied.

The first 4 you mentioned are ok. But you ripped on GUNDAM! HOW COULD YOU!! lol.
You're entitled to opinion as am I. I think the original Gundam series was ok. However, do you not like it just cause your brother watches it? What's wrong about it? (And you can't say "cause your brother watches it" again.. :) )

Rogie-san wrote:Hoo-boy, Tsukikage Ran and Wild Arms are by far the worst I've seen, and I didn't even get past the first discs! Another would have to be Gundam: 08th MS Team.

I've never heard of the Wild Arms anime, though I've seen one of the latest games with a new battle system. (But that's probably the only good thing about the game. Haven't played it yet.)
I understand the 08th MS Team at the end. But the first few episodes aren't too bad. (Then again, I'll probably have to watch it again. I might be remembering all the good parts...)

Final Fantasy Unlimited. Another rip off.
As for Mon Colle Knights, *nods head profusely* I agree. FoxKids shouldn't have been invented in the first place. (Digimon, Power Rangers, Transformers, Kirby, and Mon Colle Knights. *crys in the corner* Oh the horrible-ness).

I must say though, the DBZ games aren't all that bad for fighting games. Realisticly, no they aren't. If you want to fly around and blow up the world though, it's fun. :)

MorewenLaicoriel wrote:I can actually sit through entire episodes of other shows like Pokemon, Code Lyoko, and Totally Spies and at least VAGUELY enjoy myself.

Um, you can sit through Totally Spies?... *backs away anime-style*
(By the way, Totally Spies doesn't count in my book as anime...)

Cedahila wrote:I forgot about DBZ! >.< I can't stand the animation for it...I'm really picky when it comes to anime. ^^]
Ack. Another DBZ hater.
Again, I will agree and disagree with you (I know.. I'm weird like that). I disagree with the fact that it has some good fighting scenes (if you like karate/kung-fu fighting anime). Although they just get flashy with all these huge "ki" attacks. I agree with you with the fact that it takes 5 episodes to finish a 5 minute fight. (... yeah...)

Falco53 wrote:Oh, I left out "anything Dragonball" and Sailor Moon as well.

It wasn't the animation in DBZ that bugged me so much, the re-used cels don't irk me to a great degree. What bugged me was the crappy writing, and how there would eight-episode-long fights, with entire episodes devoted to characters saying "I've never seen such power!" and Goku charging up some ridiculous technique. In short: the writing sucks.

I must say I agree with you on that. Too many people powering up for who-knows-how-many episodes long. (How many Sayjins can screw in a lightbulb? Answer: One, but it takes 5 episodes.)

Animegrrl7 wrote:Final Fantasy Unlimited, it had very little to do with the games except it having Chocobos and it had a weak story and plot structure. this is why i don't like anime based on video games

Yay! Go chocobos! (Oh... Yeah and Final Fantasy Unlimited was bad. *Refer to posting above*).

Cap'n Nick wrote:Ya! Don't dis the kiddie anime! They are not meant for you! Let them live peacefully in their little corner of the universe!

Incidentally, some people here that are learning English as a second language tell me that they like the kid shows (namely FoxBox and Arthur) because the language is simpler and easier to practice with.

Also, it gets many kids who are younger to get into the anime world rather than the stupid cartoon stick figures that are shown on Cartoon Network. (Sorry to all those who like American cartoons. Japanese anime FTW!)

John316 wrote:Ebichu, eh? One of my friends really like that show, and after being introduced to it by her, I was like "What the heck? How can you watch this crap? It shows people having sex!" To which her reply was "But there's a little cute hamster and that makes everything alright!" Figures.

Ebichi... evil... don't... ever... watch... it...

CobaltAngel wrote:Goku always spent 5-25 episodes screaming and changing his hair color to beat 'the impossible enemy'.

Gosh. I had a penny for everytime I saw that, I'd be rich. (Not a millionare because one time is equal to five or six episodes respectively, so we'll leave it at rich. lol  )

Impact Alberto wrote:What else...what else....Hmm, anything that 4Kids dubs. Also, that terrible Cowboy Bebop.

ACK! *choke choke* Come one. Cowboy Bebop wasn't that bad at all. In fact, the English voice acting was extremely good too.

agentsmith700 wrote:trufully it was Tenchy Myo

I have to say that Tenchi Muyo (<-- thats the spelling) wasn't too bad. It was Tenchi Universe and Techi in Tokyo that were horrible in my opinion.

Arizona the Gunslinger wrote:I liked Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi in Tokyo was the one that made me cringe....

Supporting my statement above...

Bobtheduck wrote:For just reasons of "nastyness" I'd say the last episode of "Excel Saga" ignoring some brief clips of hentai movies I have seen. (I've never sat through a whole Hentai)

Then there is "End of Evangelion" which left me in a deep depression for about 2 weeks...

Yep. Don't watch Excel Saga ESPECIALLY the last episode.

Haven't watched End of Evangelion, but I agree with the fact that it will leave you in a depression. The first two episodes did that to me.

I've seen Lain from beginning to end. Great storyline, just creepy and a lot of stuff and a lot of things left unexplained. (You might have to see it twice through to get it I guess... but I'm not going through that torture again...)
Jeikobu wrote:Neon Genesis Evangelion. Very detailed plot and deep characters, nice animation and music, etc., but new age to be all heck. I saw the whole series and both movies, and I must say End of Evangelion is the worst film I've ever seen. It is so spiritually dark.

One of my "friends" said that Evangelion is a combined thing of a whole bunch of different religions together. That's probably why I don't like it. Religions don't mix that well with each other.

Wingzero22 wrote:To the people that have listed anime that others like and fear that they will get stone to death by ones that love these. You can thank me later when I take all the worry away from you all.

Okay, I hope everyone is cool about this and will not stone me for it.

Trigun

Now waiting for the stones to fly at me.

The stones are flying...
Well, I like Trigun. Has a good amount of humor and comedy. Don't know what you don't like about it though... explaination?? (No harsh-ness in any of the statements. Just wondering... :) )

Kailgraphic wrote:The first is Serial Experiments: Lain.

It's very dark. Also, the ending episodes are rather freaky and confusing. Again, like I said above, there are a lot of things that are left unexplained that make it confusing for me...

Sango wrote:Does "Teen Titans" count as an anime?

No. Its a cartoon. (American... baaad...)

MysterTobias777 wrote:The worst I've seen are not true anme, but cartoons. The Ripping Friends was horrible. C'mon boys, get out some paper, and when the Ripping Friends say go, rip up that paper. The other show is the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I feel this show belongs on Adult Swim with its crude humor and vulgar tastes. However, this is one of the most popular Cartoon Network shows. I feel sorry for any kids who grow up watching this show.

<sigh> I don't like cartoons... Well said, Tobias...

Myoti wrote:And for the "kiddie" anime, again, cut them some slack. Remember that many weren't made for you (though there are some you can count as crap...), and many, MANY "kiddie" ones were edited apart, turning them into something they weren't (i.e., One Piece).

Thanks Myoti. As I said before, these "kiddy" anime help the younger ones to be introduced into the anime world and get them away from those stupid cartoons. So don't rag on them too much. :)

Sami_jane wrote:dont know if it would be considered anime but i would have to say code lyoko...its really more of a kid show tho.

also the worst show i have ever seen in my entire life is wulin worriors.

Not much to say... but Oie! The picture! Is that alright mods?? @.@

Ok, I'm done with my comments. Not much to say about which anime I like dislike. I've already said it above.

Oh. My. Gosh. Thank you sooo much for making me remember that show. Now I remember the utter feeling of contempt I have for it. Oh, that show was AWFUL!
Yu-Gi-Oh is a pretty bad one. I can't sit through an entire episode without making fun of it or making my own storyline to it. No offense to all the Yu-Gi-Oh Fan... people out there.
Beyblade is exruciating. And Duel Masters.
And Yu Yu Hakusho bores me to tears.
Any anime where the fighting is done most indirectly is torture for me.
Oh, and who could forget Tokyo Mew Mew(or Mew Mew Powers, whatever it's called).
I'm hard to please. :)
::Edit:: OOPS! I forgot to specify the show I meant in the beginning of my post! I meant the Mon Colle Knights. BLECH!!

Negima. Horrible character designs, horrible filler, horrible animation style, horrible dialogue... honestly, Ken Akamatsu should make Xebec pay him for emotional damages. I honestly couldn't believe such an incredible manga could have such a poor anime adaptation.

Well, many of you have already said FLCL, so I'll just agree rather than join in the discussion. However, I will nominate Duelmasters. And I must be the only one here who could actually stand Reign and Lain. Eep!
