Postby mai » Sun Aug 29, 2004 6:55 am

I'm looking for some good anime/manga artbooks [meaning good art work and little or no nudity/fanservice] any recommendations?

• Sleep too much, or sleep too little
• Unexpected loss or gain of weight
• Tiredness or restlessness

What kind of art? There are anime art books?

I edited my post.
Anime/manga art books are collections of images from specific artists or series.

I own the Serial Experiments: Lain (called "An Omnipresence") and Haibane Renmei artbooks, both by Yoshitoshi ABe. I also own the Boogiepop Phantom artbook, as well as several artist-specific books (I'm away from home right now, so I don't have all the names of the artists). Of these, I'd recommend Haibane as it is very clean and still very available. Of course, it would help if you read Japanese and were a fan of the series; if not, I doubt it would be as enjoyable. I wish you the best in your search.

try Der Mond and Die Sterne if you are a fan of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion manga). Der Mond has very little fanservice, just three or four iffy pictures (think Misato's shorts... oof) and one Rei nude pic (although you can't see anything).

Yukiru Sugisaki (DNAngel, Canidate for Goddess, Brainpowered, Lagoon Engine) is an extremely talented artist, and her art books have very very little fanservice and no nudity (that I can recall off the top of my head.) I admire her work greatly. If you have a chance, I'd also suggest works by Sakura Kinoshita (Mythical Detective Loki, Tactics).

I've got both the North and South versions of the CLAMP art books. Those ladies sure can draw. They put me to shame, anyway. I also have a few Miyazaki artbooks, which I enjoy a lot. Of course, I'm a big Nausicaä fan.

A lot of the art books are imports, so they come with a pretty hefty price tag. The selection of officially released in the US artbooks is still kind of small (although I read that the CLAMP North and South books are due for US release soon). Because of cost, I would recommend eBay, where you can get away without paying the huge import fee sometimes.

Ack how did I miss this one?

I wrote something up for some artbooks I already have. ^_^

http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=10561&highlight=artbooks

I do plan to write up a little bit more on the rest of the books I have.

Let's see, the most decent artbooks I have are the Hikaru no Go, Detective Conan/Aoyoma Gosho and Full Metal Alchemist manga style artbook (refer to the thread given). The EVA books were pretty decent too. But you definitely want to stay clear of the Ayashi no Ceres artbook.

Personally I like the Saiyuki/Minekura Kazuya artbooks and plan on getting the rest of them but if some angsty pics, mild yaoi hinting images and guys with exposed chests/slightly unzipped pants bother you, skip this artist.

Wish list:
1) Full Metal Alchemist TV Animation artbook - ahhhhh....just released...must resist must resist, already exceeded monthly budget T_T Good clean art. XD

2) Tsuko - Atsuko Nakajima artbook - the art is soooooooo purty and I want to draw like her. BUT she is officially a yaoi supporter and has some fanservicey pics in this book. *HUGE SIGGGHHH* I dunno, I'm still considering this one....*sighs again*

3) Rest of Minekura Kazuya's stuff like Salty Dog 2 and Backgammon I ^__^ But do watch out, some of her art stuff has yaoi hintings. She is probably a yaoi supporter...although not as bad as Atsuko Nakajima. Sheeshh...why do all the artists I like, support yaoi in some way?? >_< So unlucky!
