Friends

Between debating politics, the latest string of assassinations in the Middle East, and having a spoon fight over the last buffalo wing, I realized something yesterday:

I’m almost 2+ years younger then my closest friends.

Shocking, isn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong, I do have friend my own age, but thinking about it, the friendships I have with my friends that are older then me are much stronger and more-tightly knit then the ones I have with my peers.

We where at Applebees for a little over an hour yesterday; the eldest there was 26, and I was the youngest by almost two full years, at barely 17. Seven people total; four guys, three girls; three of us where married; one had a kid; and all of them save for me and one other where either in college or graduating from college.

Not once did the conversation turn to gossip, or to sex or about who was hotter; Mr. Bloom or Mr. Depp, which seem to always be the standard staples of conversation whenever I hang out with teens my own age, Christian or not.

All in all, it was… nice.

But what about you guys? What’s the age group of your friends?
Do you hang out with people older then you too?
 Or am I just the odd one?

yeah, I know what you mean, my friends range from 15 to 16 and up me being 12 ^.^;;, I mean I also have friends my age, but they don't really understand me, and usually just end up ignoring me and/or thinking I'm really depressed, or that I don't like them -.-;;

Up until about 5 years ago our Youth Group was pushing at 150 teens alone in the senior high group, while our middle school group (which I was in at the time) only had about a dozen. Since the High School group was so big, they were understaffed, so every once in a while, they’d clump us all together. It was crazy. That’s how I met up with a lot of my friends. I grew up in the church and being the Pastor's granddaughter and the youth group leader's niece, everyone and their dog knew me.

Life happened though, most of them graduated and headed off for college, and we’ve dropped down to about 50 a night, which is still good for a church in the middle of nowhere.
Now, I’m in the same boat as you are now, Hitokiri, but someone’s gotta keep ‘em youngins in line *cracks whip*

[quote="'arch angel'"] yeah, I know what you mean, my friends range from 15 to 16 and up me being 12 ^.^]

Growing up is tough, and it's nice to talk to someone that just made it through what you're going through, isn't it?

For me, my closest friends are those whos maturity closely matched mine.
Once you leave HS, age doesnt really matter. (Not that it should matter in HS, but for some reason it always seams to be that way).

I have always had friends that are older then me. Its much easier for me to hold a conversation with an "adult" then some one in my age group. (Unless we are talking about something spacific)

Some times I hang out with some of my old friends. But all they want to do is just sit around a "one up" on another. Or go drinking or somthing lame like that.

The fact that I am married and own a house just kind of changes everything aswell. Im always thinking about fixing my car, or putting new gutters in (or somthing to that effect). While my friends are thinking about girls or the next party they are going to.

We just see the world differantly now, and thats why I tend to make more friends who are older and usualy have simmilar issues facing them.

Anyway. I guess that just made me sound really boring.

Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I know exactly how you feel Lehn. With one exception, *cough Zilch cough* all of my friends are at minimum a year older than me. Most of them are 2-3, if not more. It was especially weird in high school because I am a year younger than what I "should" be for my class, and was befriending people a grade or two up, making it an even wider gap. But you know, none of us ever really thinks about it in terms like that. Yeah I'm the youngest--I'm the youngest staffer here at CAA too--but that's never stopped me or my friends from having a blast with each other.

It was hard my senior year in high school because all of my friends had already graduated. That made it tough.

While I think it's important to have older friends to look up to and hang around, I also think it's important not to shun anyone younger who wants to hang with you too. So I try not to think of my friends in terms of age, and I don't think anyone really believes I'm 17 anyway. ^^;

My best friend in the entire world is a year older than me and she's going to college in the fall. (Ya'll know her. TwilightKiss.) I do have other friends in school, but I don't make close friends that easy. I have a hard time opening up to people. I don't have a lot of people I'd peg as good friends, and two are now leaving for college. But, I do have three my age and two younger, that will still be in school with me, but they're guys. ^_^ Guys are great, don't get me wrong (especially since one of these particular guys is like a brother to me), but there's no replacement for my girlfriends. Ah well, que sera sera.

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

I'm taller than you, hah! 5'6! Ok, who cares....

It's kinda half and half for me. Some of my friends are younger and some are older. Actually, more are younger than me. I even regularly hang out with my 10 year old cousin. She's really cool... :P

*thinks* I dunno...it really depends on who's still around. ^^;; In my university, I mean.

At the moment, most friends of my age have graduated and moved on. Many of my friends are younger but I have equally as many friends just as old or older than me at work. So it's really balanced.

The age doesn't really matter. It's just the question of whether I can get along with them or not.

Hmmm...I've never really thought about this. Most of my friends are in my grade, but usually it's for the "nonsense" type of talk. I can't really tell them anything about more serious issues. Once I had told one of my ninth grade friends that I was seriously depressed and she merely told me to "get over it." Obviously, that only made things worse. I usually talk to my teacher friends about my personal problems, and I'm friends with a few upperclassmen because we share similar interests, but they're all three different social lives for me. Anyways, end rant :)

Since I got out of high school, I've tended to have friends who are a few years older than me. I just seem to relate better to the "older" crowd. I'm getting OLD.

However, now that I'm taking classes at a junior college again, I have some younger friends too... but we have the interest of art in common.

And of course I have one very cool younger friend in particular. *grins and waves at The Silence*

I have friends of all ages, but I would say that my closest friends are either right around my age or younger. Most of them aren't older than me though.
