How clean is Eureka Seven?

I had read nothing but good reviews for Eureka Seven, and after watching the first few episodes, I rather liked the show. They were clean, interesting characters, interesting technology, lovely animation, and not a bad plot.

But now I'm at episode 7, and this show confuses me. It seems like a decent family show, but then pieces of adult content are awkwardly added in and they even feel out of place.

One moment, Renton and Eureka are out shopping, the next we see Holland reading a book with a full frontal shot of a naked woman on the cover; one second, we're seeing the enemy investigate some mysterious killings and deciding how to reorganize their squads, the next second Renton is being tricked to go in a spa full of naked men's rear-ends.

Is this streak of awkward adult moments going to be present through the whole series? If so, does it stay at the same level or get worse?

If it gets worse, I'd rather just drop this series-- it didn't appear like an age-16+ show, but watching an action show that suddenly flashes to nudity close-ups out of nowhere or worse is not acceptable. If it stays at this same infrequent level, maybe I can just cut out the indecent parts with a video editor. I know it's not excessive nudity in any way (aka, Elfen Lied) -- but it will affect the little kids if they see things like this a lot on the shows I watch.

Anyways, please let me know just how clean this series is. Thanks for any opinions.

There is no way that Eureka Seven is a family show, it was aim for young teens to older teens.

As far as the nudity goes and its been a long time that I seen it, but I don't believe that it gets any worse.

But the series does get darker in some ways and its not something that I see younger views understanding at all.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. It's not really an anime about a kid who goes on a whimsical adventure with a ragtag group of hippies who surf in robots like the first few episodes would have you believe. Leaving aside the nudity, the plot takes a considerably darker turn and the themes that it explores are fairly complex.

That said, for the appropriate audience, it's a fantastic show, with great character development, an intriguing plot, and an incredibly detailed world.

I see... so basically, there's a reason why so many people and reviewers love it, but it's more for the mature teen audience and older. Sounds like FMA... the first few episodes seem nice enough, but the shows takes on significantly darker (but still very interesting and entertaining) overtones by the end of the series.

Actually, if you can believe it or not, Eureka 7 aired on Sunday morning in Japan. This is usually an indicator that a show is aimed at kids...supposedly.

At any rate, the only real nudity I remember is on that book, but there is a smattering of innuendo throughout the series. Later on there is some blood (and even a few scenes of gore actually), if that bothers you.

The violence seriously made me wonder how they ever got away with that at that timeslot.

There actually is more disturbing violence in Eureka Seven than there is nudity or sexual content.

yah, I would say this show is at least for teens 14 and up... ^^; It doesn't get much worse although I think there's an implied scene sprinkled in?

I love this show a lot, (and not FOR those scenes either) its got a lot of depth and intriguing plot...

But, no, you're right, Eureka Seven isn't the first thing I think of when I think of anime to watch with the family (unless you're talking about your CAA online family, in which case, you better have food at your place, cause we're coming over!) but it is a great anime if you want something that will make you laugh, think, and go "What in the heck?!"

Oh yeah, as Kitchan will attest, it's also the greatest anime to cause heated discussions with! Heaven knows we've had our share!

Oh my that was funny. The line after that may have been just as funny. "Ah so warm."

But seriously yeah 14+ show. I liked it alot, but there still is the violence.
That's about it as far as objectionable content except for the partial nudity that has been mentioned. But that doesn't really continue.

I only saw that episode once and I haven't been able to figure out which episode it was...but it seemed to imply that Talho and Holland had just slept together, hence why we figure out Talho's pregnant toward the end of the series? but yeah XD that line was just so innocent sounding and then you think about it and it's all LOL!!!!

Hahaha-- well thanks for the words everyone! So it's a great series, but don't be fooled by the family-friendly appearance in the first couple episodes, it is made for more mature audiences.

In that case, I think I'll still watch it on the side with my brother, just not with the whole family.

One more question if I may? "Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars" - this looks pretty interesting, but again, I can't find a single family-based review on it anywhere. How clean is it? Is it something I can share with the family or not?

Yeah, there are some anime that you may want to preview before showing the family. And even after previewing you may decide not to show them. This is all up to your discretion though.
