Dental Work ><.

I have a small story to tell. For the first time in six years I finally had my appointment with the dentist and my exam. I hope this topic doesn't sound too disturbing .

Unfortunatley I did have 7 cavity fillings that got done today . I got them all done at the same time. I also have to get another 7 teeth that need filling so I guess the total cavities I had were 14 . In all my 24 years I've never once had a cavity or had to get a filling.

Now it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The only painful parts was the numbing process which did hurt a little bit and did get slightly teary eyed XD. But it wasn't too bad. However feeling so numb for the next few hours didn't feel to good . My nose felt all weird and numb as well as my upper lip. My upper lip was so numb, it felt like I had no control over it XD.

Praying to the Lord did help me get through this alot. Just before getting in get my filling I prayed "God please be with me". But everything turned out okay and I feel very grateful to our God because of that .

I must say though overall this turned out to be a rather interesting experience XD.

You guys ever remember having to get any tedious dental work? How'd you feel afterwards?

I had to get two roof canals before, and back in mid 2007. I had to get 0one my upper left teeth worked on which had a cavity, which still has slight pain sometimes.

Arrrrrrrgh, I need a filling replaced >_< It's been a while since I've had one o.o I'm kinda scared, but I'm sure it'll be ok.. right o.o;

I remember getting my first fillings when I was around.. 5 (alot of things seemed to happen when I was around five or around the age of five ). I was a very small girl with a small moth who couldn't open my mouth wide, so they had to put those block things in my mouth to keep it open :O I had a bad gag reflex thingy back then. Right now to I remember slobbering like crazy afterwards tho (ewwwwwwww) :O

I also had to get all 4 wisdom teeth out at once. That was a fun April Break (Thanks mom for scheduling that one). However I did discover that the pain meds they gave me made me into a very angsty and emo teenager XDDDD It was awful

Ouch . That sounds scary. I just had small cavities apparently because the holes that were drilled in were small. I'm 24 and still have yet to get my wisdom teeth taken out. I also had my 7 cavities done all at once XD.

Don't worry about your wisdom teeth though. Sometimes people have problems, a lot of times they don't. I had all 4 our a year ago and had no post-op problems --very little pain, no swelling, no dry sockets. I just had to remember not to drink out of a straw or spit for a while...

I am glad, in a way, to know I am not the only person who does not like going to the dentist. I had my first dental appointment today from three years ago. The one before that was eight years ago I think...

I thank God the dentist said my teeth had no problems - but he did say all my wisdom teeth will have to come out as my jaw is a bit small and there just isn't enough room for the wisdom teeth. That's why when I had my lower jaw x-rayed, it showed the two lower wisdom teeth trying to grow horizontally. The two upper ones are fine but crowding the other teeth, making them hard to reach with the tooth brush.

So Sharien chan - I will be experiencing what you experienced sometime this year...

The dentist also said because the bone in my lower jaw is quite dense, and the two wisdom teeth there are still "hidden", he will not attempt to extract them himself but refer me to an oral surgeon.

I will have to take a few days off work, and after the extraction I won't be able to chew any solid food for a few days. * sweat *

It's really not that bad. My mom wouldn't let me get knocked out for it, so all I was allowed was novacain. It really didn't hurt at all, just afterwards you're sore but then again it is considered major surgery so. But I think the worst part of the entire thing is not being able to eat real food for a few days. I still can't eat yogurt XD

It's really not that bad. My mom wouldn't let me get knocked out for it, so all I was allowed was novacain.

It's bloody expensive to be knocked out -- it cost nearly $3000 just for me to be knocked out for 45 minutes when I went in for oral surgery. I don't blame your mom at all. I hope none of you go through what I did. I had all of my upper teeth removed along with my lower wisdom teeth.

My parents never really instilled good dental habits into me, and I'm the worst Mtn. Dew junkie in the world. So I'm stuck with a denture at age 25 (though I got it right after I turned 22).

Been a while since I've been in to the dentist...I may have a cavity or two now, but practically all my molars were filled growing up. The back ones, so my dentist claimed, were the hardest he'd ever done (and he'd been a dentist for a while). Later, my wisdom teeth were impacting so they had to be cut out. That process was okay, but my jaw muscles have never been the same since...over-stressed or scarred or something...bleh.

Seven cavities at once huh? Yeah, that wouldn't be fun at all.

My insurance would cover it fully because they were impacted. My mom didn't want me to be knocked out because she's a nurse and she's heard too many horror stories. She also didn't want me to look like a moron trying to walk afterwards XD She said she saw this one girl who was drooling and stumbling and just so out of it, and she said she didn't want me to go through that XDDDD

Dayum I heard the anesthesia would only cost me $100 and my MediCare or MadiCal insurance wouldn't even cover it they said.

The entire process cost over $10000 after you figured in the cost of the denture, moldings, post-op drugs (WHEE~~!), surgery etc. and since I'm stupid and haven't managed to take much care of the teeth I still have, I'll probably end up having them removed in the next 5 years too.

The upshot will be that I won't have to care about dental visits so much after that.
