Cargo Containers

Postby ashfire » Thu Jan 17, 2008 3:18 pm

Would anyone live in a house or apartment building built using cargo containers.
There are many internet sites that show people using them to build a house or in England a hotel.
Many companies convert cargo containers for many uses from portable offices to bathrooms to streetside food stands.

Maybe --if it had good insulation, a/c and heat, working bathrooms and sink, stove, electricity --I may consider it.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."

I guess I would.......
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Some things in life, like hotdogs...it is better to remain ignorant of. If they used it in a building, why tell someone? It only would make the person feel funny. Also it would greatly depend on what they carried in the container.

Then I could downgrade my future dreams from living in a van down by the river to living in a cargo box down by the river! :P

Hmmm... well, I guess it all depends on how much they would cost and how much I would make in the future. If I don't make that much money then I might be glad to have a cargo box to live in, or any roof over my head for that matter. But if I have a reasonable income and the economy gets better instead of worse (or even just stays the same) then I think it would be kind of silly to live in.

I found some websites that make living in a shipping container look good.

(This one has a video to click on)

hmm, interesting. I am all for reusing and recycling and such. It's not like you'd be living in a cardboard box or anything. Some of those designs are pretty sweet and artistic. Why not reuse our old trash? So long as it's not toxic or anything <.<

Acourse I know that in Baltimore City, MD they burn trash to make electical power for the city.

Strangely enough, I found an article the other day that included unusual ideas for schools that included a preschool in cargo containers. Fifth one down, includes a link to more buildings made from cargo containers:

LINK

I see it simply as another form of prefabricated housing. What's the big deal, so long as it's safe and comfortable?
