yes virginia, there is a santa claus

Talk about anything in here.

yes virginia, there is a santa claus

Many years ago, a little girl named Virginia wrote a letter to a local newspaper asking if Santa Claus really exists. How would you answer this question? (Note: In keeping with this scenario, you have to tell her the answer is yes)
Here's my answer:
Dearest Virginia, I am sorry to say that Santa Claus, aka Saint Nicholas, died a very long time ago. He lived from 270-343 AD. He was the bishop of Milan and is the patron saint of children everywhere. But, do not dispair, little one. Saint Nicholas's work can and must continue in all of us. We must continue to guide children everywhere to the Christian faith. That includes you.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

I knew Santa existed a while back!

Not to wreck anything, but why do we HAVE to say "yes?" I was raised on a pretty deffinative "no" and didn't turn out any mroe warped than I would have otherwise.

Because that's what the editor said.

I would give a child-sensitive, touchy feely reply by informing little Virginia that dear Santa's name acronyms to Satan, and is the rabid spirit of a gift-giving greedy capitalist who hijacked St. Nick's persona as a means of duping innocent little kids into getting stuff like socks for Christmas, causing them to blame St. Nicholas, and become traumatized atheists for the rest of their natural lives. :P

C'mon, Blitz - have you no imagination?

I think it's pretty obvious that I DON'T! :)

I like your answer, rocklobster. The straight out truth.

I will not look into a child's eyes and lie to them, certainly not about something so materailistic as a guy who 'spreads joy' by giving away tons of toys. Not to make this a Santa debate thread...

I'm with Blitz. Why do people insist on making him such a big deal with kids, like they'll be stunted if they don't 'believe'? I never believed that Santa existed nor cared to, but I still loved presents.

Yeah, my parents always told me there was no Santa, and I got on just fine.

Anyways, I think if little Victoria sent me this letter, I would have to reply, "Go ask your mother." :)
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
