Anyone ever seen an angel of the Lord?

Talk about anything in here.

Anyone ever seen an angel of the Lord?

Postby Gabriel 9.0 » Wed Nov 07, 2007 1:03 am

After watching this program about Angels of God and Fallen Angels on the History channel.

It reminded about my glance with my guardian angel when I was little.

I was just curious if anyone has experienced an event like that. Has anyone ever seen one?
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

yes, my family had an angel incident. We were flying back from Florida after my aunts funeral and the flight was so scary. turbulence, falling, etc. Well the flight was so bad that when we finally landed everyone shouted praise and clapped. Well, we were walking off the plane and the captain was just smiling down at everyone. When I say smiling down...I mean it...this guy was unbelievably tall! o_o well, we got our bags, headed down to our car only to find out it was dead. =_= lovely. So we called in my grandparents to come and start the car for us. Well they came but we didn't have enough light to see. All of a sudden..."light" appeared out of nowhere. My dad and grandpa looked up and there was the pilot (not in his pilot clothes anymore) holding a flashlight. We got everything going. he took the flashlight and just when we got the car going my dad turned to thank him...and no one was there. o_o I mean when i say no one...I mean parking lot as far as the eye can see empty and silent. Remember, this guy was pretty tall.

When we got back home my mom called one of my aunt's cousins (or something like that) and she told my mom she had had a dream about a captain (she thought so because of the uniform, but later determined it was a pilot) welcoming my aunt into heaven. Turns out the guy in her dream was the same from our plane.

I've heard stories, but never seen myself. Always thought it would be so cool though^^ Strange though, I'm more visually tuned, but the only thing that's ever happened is audio happenings, from both factions :/

I see my Guardian angel in dreams sometimes. I also talk to her often.

I don't remember what my guardian angel looked like, but my mom has seen him (yes, I said 'him').

Every time in the Bible when someone saw an angel they felt great fear.

Thus, I'm always skeptical of anyone who claims to have seen an angel and did not feel frightened.

This is not to say these people did not. Obviously I cannot disprove their claims, and would never be so arrogant as to say they're false. Still, I personally find them very doubtful.

My guardian angel looked very transparent and taller than a door. it was awesome and a bit scary at first, but God assured me that he/she was on the side for all of his people.

I am with Nate on this one.I think if anyone actually did see an bona fide angel they'd literally be crapping in their pants.Angels, even good ones,as C.S.Lewis reminds us in his novel That Hideous Strength, aren't
good company even for good men.

I am with Nate on this one, however I have had at least two times in my life when I felt that someone was an angel. I am skeptical, but like a reverse of The Screwtape Letters these people seemed different and acted like I thought one would act.

I mean if you 'saw' an angel I would suspect they would look human in most circumstances. Just ask Joshua, Lot, Abraham etc.

If you are curious about the stories....

The first time I went to a Supertones concert (at their prime) the place was sooo packed and everyone wanted to dance and mosh and all that. There were these guys there basically doing crowd control. They were obviously not employed by the venue. I got a good feeling from them and they didn't seem like the type to be at that show. They held the circle open and let people dance for a while then let someone else in and kept it all in order amongst that chaos.

The second was when years ago I was waiting alone for my girlfriend to get off a plane. I was a bit nervous and excited (we have not been going out that long). A woman came up to me who seemed to exit the plane and said, "She is doing alright," and continued to walk past me. I felt a little at ease after that......and I really didn't even think of how odd it was that a complete stranger came and said that to me and that it was relevant.

...anyhow I know things like this can't be based on 'feeling' and all that, but if I get to heaven and Jesus told me that I had seen angels in my life, I would have to recount these two incidents and ask if I was correct.

I doubt we can actually see our guardian angels, but I do believe they are there always watching over us to make sure we don't slip up bad. Now of course sometimes the Lord allows bad things to happen to us for a reason and so then the guardian angel stands ideally by untill we learn the lesson God wants us to learn. You don't realize how many times our guardian angels save us, we could easily get into a wreck and die but God does save us everyday if you allow Him to do so. But I will admit though God may allow someone to get into the wreck but not let them die rather get seriously injured. And He may allow a death to occur, its all in His planning. But I believe though, we should pray to Him everyday for protection because so often we take advantage of this that one day He might not protect you, so we must stay in constant prayer everynight before we go to bed and before we leave our houses.

Sorry, but that seems to be reducing God to being petty, cruel, and on the same level as humans. "Oh, you didn't pray for me to protect you, so forget you!" God's gonna do what He's gonna do, regardless of what we say. We have the right to pray to Him, and we should. But God's not going to forget us if we don't pray to Him, and He's not always going to protect us just because we ask Him to.

I think this is one of the sad states of Christianity, to reduce God to a genie or to reduce Him to a petty vindictive creature that forces us to do certain things or He's going to throw us to the wolves. I pray for God's protection every night. Not because I think, "Oh if I forget to something bad is going to happen!" It is merely an acknowledgment that God is in charge of all things in the universe, and that He controls all aspects of life. It's the same with praying for forgiveness of sin; all sin was immediately defeated on the cross, and as soon as I accepted Christ into my heart all my sins, past AND future, were immediately forgiven. So why then do I every night pray for my sins to be forgiven, knowing that they already have been? To acknowledge that I am still a sinful human being and would be lost without God's grace and mercy.

This sounds an awful lot like a story in the book we read when I went to grief counseling with my mom after my dad died. This woman said how every day she prayed the blood of Christ over her family before they went anywhere/did anything, and like one day she didn't do it, and her son died or something, and she said it was all her fault for not praying the blood of Christ over him and blah blah blah, and the book was like, "This is not a healthy view of things." And it isn't.

None from me. And if so, they were very subtle or I simply didn't notice them. As Nate pointed out, if I ever did it would probably be an unforgettable experience.

As for feeling God's presence, then I can answer yes to that.

I've undoubtably been saved by my angel several times (Car Fire of '02 and Rollover of '03, much?) Not to mention my very birth...
But I have never actually seen him or her.

I haven't seen an angel before. But I am sure they do exist.

However.. I think to many times we give credit to the wrong person. I have been in car accidents myself, that were, thankfully not that serious, but they could ahve been.

But I didn't ever credit an angel for saving me. I credited God. Sure an angel might have...but wasn't it God that sent that angel in the first place? Or was it just God?

It's an issue that is very interesting to me!

If I meet an angel I will be so freaked out, but in a good way...maybe.

>_> I would probably be scared stiff.

I've had a weird past with angels. I got saved by one once, only the angel was in dog form. We were at a church and we were playing in a nearby tree. There was this Dog (A rot)That got lose out of it's cage. The dog came running at me, but then a huskey came out of nowhere, and tackled the dog. We climbed up a tree when we got the chance. It was scary to watch for us, Really scary sence three of us were in a small tree. And one was on the ground. Shortly after, the fight was over and the huskey ran behind the church. I followed it, but when I managed to catch up, it was gone. Just gone. Not even a trace left. Now thats what I would call weird. But cool none-the-less.

Not in the traditional being of light sense, but I think I've had encounters.

When I was four, I saw around 10-20+ angels all at the same time. They appeared outside my window and stayed all night. Yes, I was freaked out. I didn't sleep at all. XDD

However... I knew instinctively they weren't there to cause me harm. (A few of them spoke kindly to me.)

I might have seen an evil spirit briefly appear in my room and then disappear around that time, though my memory is kinda fuzzy on the whole ordeal.

(To this day, btw, I never sleep with my blinds open and you can't make me.)

I saw one in a dream, In my dream it rescued me and my dad from being stuck in the bottom of the lake, although i could breath under water, I don't think my dad could, and I was desperate to get out. Its face and hair were beautiful, they were a translucent golden sparkly color, if I explain myself correctly, it gave a chill, but a sence of aw in me also. Its wings were the first thing I saw, they were so beautiful. I actual happening, Im not sure, maybe so...i just can't remember now.

(In regards to what Azzie said, I must've had a similar encounter (supernatural or physical) because I cannot and will not sleep or even have my blinds open. I'm always paranoid I'll look up and something will be there (my desk is at my window, positioned to where the window is directly behind it and I face it), or even worse, something will be looking at me and I won't know it. With the blinds closed I don't have to worry about it.)

(I can't remember any encounters, but my little sister said she once woke up to see a completely white person walking towards her closet. She barely kept herself from screaming, and promptly fell asleep again.)

rii, my best advice is move your desk to somewhere were you wont get so paranoid, somewere where you feel safe. Plus remeber, as long as you have GOD by your side, nothing can harm you!

Fear - Noun
1. a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
2. a specific instance of or propensity for such a feeling: an abnormal fear of heights.
3. concern or anxiety; solicitude: a fear for someone's safety.
4. reverential awe, esp. toward God.

If I recall, I think the Bible uses the word "Fear" in terms of definition #4.

Basically I'm saying that I think you're wrong, Nate. When you are told to fear the lord, you are not told to be scared by him. You're told to look up to him in awe and reverence. I'd assume that the same applies with angels.

I thought theological debates were no-no at CAA. In any case, I've never seen an angel... Not a good one, anyhow. I've seen a lot of demons in my younger life, I stopped seeing them by the time I was about 16 because I asked to stop... I wish I had gotten to see angels. It would have made the demon thing more tolerable.

No, you're wrong. Want proof?
Luke 1:11-13 wrote:11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah]
Key words: "Do not be afraid." Zechariah was afraid, not in awe or reverence.

Oh, let's use another example.
Luke 2:9-10 wrote:9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

The word "terrified" does not mean awe or reverence. And again, the angels have to say, "Don't be afraid." If they meant "fear" in the sense of awe or reverence, why would the angels tell them not to feel like that? No, the Bible makes it abundantly clear that people are afraid when they see angels, and that the angels have to comfort them to relieve their fear.

Homonym - Noun
1. homophone (def. 1).
2. a word the same as another in sound and spelling but different in meaning, as chase “to pursue” and chase “to ornament metal.”
3. (loosely) homograph.
4. a namesake.
5. Biology. a name given to a species or genus that has been assigned to a different species or genus and that is therefore rejected.

In your examples, those people may have been afraid because they didn't know what they were encountering at that time. Once they realized that what they were seeing was something good and holy, their fright leaved them. I mean if a guy in a Black Tuxedo walked into my room and went "lol hay", I'd be freaked out because there's a random guy in my room and that's out of the ordinary. If he eventually showed that he was a real Angel, I'd be like "lol woah that's kewl" and not be freaked out anymore.

Anyway. I shall not say more on this matter because I don't want a full-blown theological debate going on, as Bobtheduck previously mentioned.

You got that backwards. When angels are disguised, people aren't afraid of them. See Lot, for example, the angels who visited him were disguised, and he wasn't afraid.

Manoah and his wife are an even better example, because the angel comes to them in disguise, and they didn't think twice about it. But when the angel disappeared in a pillar of flame they fell to the ground in fear and freaked out because they realized "HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AN ANGEL."

This is why reading your Bible is important.

Mmmm. You misunderstood what I was trying to say.

I didn't mean "They didn't know they were angels", I meant "They were freaked out by the realization that what they saw was something out of the ordinary." or "They were freaked out. Period"

Yeah I would freak out too. But like I said, you could either be freaked out by something out of the ordinary, or see an angel and can't help but be in awe.

I think both ideas remain true and can be true at a "first glance of an Angel".

This is why reading your Bible is important.

I can't help but feel this was an unnecessary and condescending remark.

Angels seem to disappear after helping people. A lot.

I agree wit Kit-chan. There have been a few times where I felt I wasn't going to make it, but I did..obviously :P and I always thanked God for that wether it was an angel who did it or not, like she said God still sent that angel. Besides I don't think the angels are going to be offended by us thanking God for our safety :P

There have been times I've wondered if a person was an angel or not, but it may just have been God using someone. So I really don't know if I've encountered one or not.

I, personally, have never seen one; however, I do believe that I MAY have had encounters with them. I could tell you stories of almost-car-wrecks I've been in that didn't happen, because something "pushed" another car out of the way (I'm not talking about driving out of the way, I'm talking about unnatural push out of the way), anonymous letters, checks, cash when we desperately needed it. Of course the last few could've all been God using people for his purpose, and the car wrecks could've just been Him period.

I do know people that claim they've seen angels though, and let me tell you, they said that they were SCARED STIFF. One of them claims he almost peed his pants and that when the angel touched him he felt the fear leave and peace come over him.

believe what you want. I only claim what I know and what I've heard.
