Forgetting your teen years / childhood

Postby Bobtheduck » Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:54 am

Reading through the "what did I do" thread, I was trying to think about the things taking place. I felt like I wanted to say "Well, that's just teenagers" or something to that effect, but I couldn't because... I don't know if that IS normal for teenage boys... I try to look back at my teen years, and I remember VERY little about them...

I KNOW where I was during my teen years... Christian school until the middle of 9th grade... Charter school after that... I remember some vague details, but I don't remember what it was like to be a teen... I really don't remember it at all... I just wanted to know... Is this normal?

I DO remember that when I was a kid, I figured adults just don't know what it's like to be a kid, despite them saying "I was your age once." Now it seems like I'm experiencing this first hand. I can't remember most of my childhood and teen years for the life of me...

I sure hope that this is normal. I'm the same way. Although I'm certain there is alot of stuff I'm better off not remembering.

I recall teenagers a little bit more just simply because after I graduated I dated a girl clear through her highschool years. My own details are fuzzy. Knowing what she went through I'm glad my details are fuzzy. I remember a lot of really arrogant jerks, and I remember hating everyone in my graduating class. I also remember not being terribly happy for much of it. I'm glad I don't remember everything.

Heh, define "Normal." I don't think any thing about being a teenager is normal. I think most of use forget our teen year out of self difference.

Hmm... I suppose I'm could say that I remember my teen years. I remember being teased at school. I remember going to church, doing thing with my friends. I remember being incredible emotional. I remember all the projects I did during that time. I remember being part of the ammeter radio community in Arizona. How much of ones teen years is one suppose to remember?

Say did you keep a Journal or a Direly by any chance.

I remember how dorky I was as a middle schooler. When I remember my teen years, I'm probably going to remember how much I despised being one; so awkward, petty, angry and hormone-driven. But as an adult, I'm probably going to have The Little Prince in my library. :>

I don't know if I would remember anything either if I hadn't written diary when I was younger. ( I still write it, of course. )

I remember getting busted for hacking the first network our school ever got. That's one of maybe 5 things I remember from high school.

I remember some things, such as writing projects I was working on, books I read, and some of the things I felt and did. But I think there are a lot of things I forgot, not just in my teen years, but in more recent ones as well.

My brothers sometimes make references to things, and I say, "Huh? I don't remember that." Then they'll go over what happened, and more often than not I do sort of remember it then. :)

My life is most blurry from roughly ages 10-13. My sophomore year of high school is a little fuzzy too.

For whatever reason, I seem to be blessed with a strong memory - I can remember events all the way back from kindergarten, and a few before. I remember middle and high school well too. But they were not very happy times for me and I was miserable through all of middle school, so I choose not to think about it. Self-imposed forgetfulness if you will.

That's normal. However, if you put your mind to it you can remember just about anything.
I grew up bouncing around between home school, public schools, and Christian schools. In seventh grade I went to a Christian school and stayed there till I graduated. During my junior year, the school underwent staff changes and things went haywire. My senior year was the worst year of my life. I just had to learn to not think about it, kinda like soul alive's "self imposed forgetfullness".

College is much better than high school btw. (B

Ah, I remember high school. I remember it well. Okay, the beginning is a bit hazy, but once I gained Shinigami powers everything got a lot more exciting. Fighting hollows, going to this place called Soul Society, saving the world and all that. Yeah, much more interesting.

Someone: "Er, that's the plot of Bleach."

Why, so it is! I was ripped off! I knew I shouldn't have had that heart-to-heart life story talk with a manga-ka in a Japanese noodle bar without establishing rights to the story!

Seriously, though, it's usually not that memorable.

Ok,I really doubt that anyone can remember THAT far back, but yeah if you think about it you probably can remember details about when you were smaller and younger.Of course some of it might be from the fact that some things we do when we are younger we can never outgrow because certain other people *Koff parents and older sisters Koff*never let us live 'em down.

Ray Bradbury claims he can remember his whole life. Normally I'd question that, but knowing Bradbury, you can never be too sure.
