Review I have to add here that many people will come to this anime because they liked one of the other animes based off of Key games(clannad, kanon, little busters) i'd have to say that this show isn't anywhere close to the quality of those shows. Don't come into this expecting anything that will blow you away. For one the spiritual elements are a lot more than in any of the other shows I've watched from them. There is a lot more nudity in this anime as well.

Review So the plot line above is very accurate. I'll concentrate on the actual elements of the show that you might be concerned about. i'll give you all of the pertinent areas but if you want specific details then highlight the spoilers.
Violence: I put a 2/10 because there's not really any fighting just some blood

spoiler the person was attacked while trying to find another character but wound up getting wounded

Nudity/Sexual content: 2/10 the most sexual scene is when a guy walks into the bath that he's just been informed is empty to find a girl in it. he stands there a sec shocked then gets booted out after making a joke.
Spiritual content: 2/10 This one gave me trouble the first time round, but i'm completely fine with it now. So Key (the company that made the original game)likes to insert their own supernatural rules into a story. In this story there is reference to "demons" all i can tell you is that they aren't actually what you and i think of as demons. I wouldn't have continued had they been anything spiritual.

spoiler they turn out to be manifestations of a character's power to heal gone wrong I guess you could say that she's literally battling her inner demons.

Other problematic themes:
none i can think of maybe a couple cuss words?

Review I was recommended this show by a friend who knew that I was looking for a good anime on Netlix. I'd say that this show far surpassed my expectations. Knights of Sidonia is the Mecha equivilent of Attack on Titan. I know that this may seem like overly high praise, but at the same time, the similarities are uncanny. The basic plot line is that the earth has been destroyed and now the last vestiges of humanity live on in space on the Sidonia. Humaninity has altered themselves to survive. They can now photosynthesize, have developed highly advanced weapons and moved on in other ways. One day a young man from the depths of the inner workings comes out to steal some food. He is caught, and is found to be a superb pilot for the mechs that the station uses to defend itself from the Gauna. (Think a cross between titans(Attack on Titan) and the flood(Halo).) Nothing is known about them except that they are what destroyed the earth and they have 1 weakness.

The character development is really something amazing. For a war in which countless people have died, it's hard to make the deaths matter. This show doesn't kill many named characters, but the deaths felt real. The writers knew what they were doing in this series. I really felt for the main characters struggles. (Side note the animation is a fairly unique style. I personally really like it though some people might have issues with the style of the people and color scheme.)

Potentially objectionable content:
Violence
In just about every episode there's some kind of space fight. Some people die in explosions others are shown with blood. The Gauna disintegrate into small circular balls, but they sometimes look vaguely human and can be slightly disturbing.
Sexual Content
A side effect of the genetic alterations of humanity gave way to a 3rd gender which is able to choose its sex. The people are able to photosynthesize they aren't wearing anything while they do so. This results in some strategically covered up nude scenes. One guys accidentally wanders into the girls locker room. nothing is shown and most of the girls are wearing underwear.
Theological
There is a question of the difference between a "real" human and and a synthetic one. They also clone regularly. A character is a talking bear... don't ask I don't know.

In conclusion if you like attack on titan and can at least stomach mech you'll like this one.

Review The reason I'm writing this review is I actually had a bad experience with this anime. I loved the characters, but the sexual content proved to much for me. There was no nudity beyond a couple of beach scenes, and most of these things I have problems with were meant as jokes, but for me they were too much. First off the twins pretend that they're homosexual for the entertainment of the girls (anime girls apparently love gay guys. Second the main is forced to cross dress, third just about every conceivable sexual misunderstanding under the sun for example one character is mistaken to have a fetish for s&m or a girl kisses unknowingly kisses another girl. thirdly the main's dad is a transvestite. I went into this show with people down playing the sexual aspects of this show.

Review Review for read or die.
First off I have to say that there is an ova (sometimes broken into parts) for this series. I personally watched the series first, however the ova was made first and this is a sequel. As such the series seems to make a couple of assumptions early on. Everything is eventually explained though and it does feel like its own complete story.
Read or Die is, in its simplest terms about people who love books. The series centers around a famous author with 4 years of writer’s block. We join her as her bestselling novel is about to be made into a movie. She arrives in Hong Kong for a publicity campaign, when she meets 3 sisters who have the unique ability to manipulate paper. They can make it hard enough to catch a bullet, use it to cut through virtually anything, make weapons and even living beings out of it.

Violence
The violence is almost never bloody, but there are plenty of fights where the sisters get a chance to use their special talents. One woman is impaled by paper and its shown in silhouette in episode 9. Another character is shown burning down a building.

Nudity
There is only 1 time in the entire series that anything resembling nudity comes in episode 9 a woman disrobes fully and her breasts are shown in full detail. Personally I recommend just skipping this episode as it adds little to the plotline and what little it does I’ll put in the spoiler box below. I don’t recommend reading it though until you get through episode 8.

spoilerSo in episode 9 Dokusensha hires the sisters to catch someone who has entered into restricted space. The sisters wind up running into Sumiregawa who follows them into a cave where the lady who is guarded by a man named Drake, has run into on a search for an object known as the key. It’s round and has some symbols on it. In order to obtain it she swims into a lake with a large water cascade that has a giant puzzle box inside. After obtaining the object and putting most of her clothes back on she’s attacked and killed by a member of Dokusensha who’s a powerful paper master. Drake however lives thanks to the protection of the sisters and Sumiregawa.

Theological Themes
There is reference to Jesus as one character compares another to Him saying that what spread Jesus’ message was his Testament.
It is claimed that an organization looked into eastern mysticism and the occult for answers to their problem none of these are shown.
The sisters are known as paper masters and the way the manipulate paper is known as paper masters. In addition when using paper animals they are referred to as familiars.

Other Negative themes
Cussing, and smoking weren’t used often, but they were present. Drinks were present at a class reunion but other than that I can’t remember much else.

Dub/sub
I didn’t watch the sub, but I do have some feedback on the dub. It was heavy on English accents most of which came off as a bit fake. The sound track is hit and miss with parts feeling perfect and others not really standing out at all.

I personally love books, though I wouldn’t call myself a bibliophile so this was an extremely good series. Without the nudity in episode 9 this one might have gotten a 10/10. It was unique and while some moments came off as flat it was a beautiful story about the power of the people, family, words, and yes paper.
