Brief Description:
Plot Summary: Haruhi is a poor tomboyish student at a school for the ultra-wealthy, able to attend because of a scholarship, and unable to even afford a uniform. One day, she stumbles across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club. She tries to leave, but accidentally breaks a vase, and unable to pay for it, she's told that she'll have to stay and do odd jobs. That is, until they decide she would be more valuable as a club member. Not realizing she's female due to her appearance, they fix her up and give her a male uniform. She's an instant hit, so they decide to have her keep up the charade even after they find out the truth. Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn't know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, she plays along. Before long, real bonds are formed, friends made, and Haruhi finds herself accepted in a way she could never have been otherwise in this affluent school.

All in all, this is one of the best titles I've seen in a very long time. I have watched this show 4 times, and each time I still laugh at all the same points. The English voice cast is actually pretty good, though they seem to not quite flow as well as the Japanese voice cast. The music is decent and the message hopeful.

Nudity details:

I chose a Nudity/Sexual Content rating of 3 - mostly related to a pair of characters who pretend to be gay. There are a couple of very brief underwear shots and the obligatory bikini's at the beach scenes. There is also some minor swearing as well as comic violence. Certainly nothing on the lines of even Tom and Jerry.

This was a great anime, with many inspiring themes, and great character development.
I gave violence a 2. It had a few parts with minimal violence, so I couldn't give it a 1.
I gave nudity a 3. It shows a charcter in her underwear a few times, and in a bikini.
I gave theo themes a one. It didn't have anything religous in it, but still some really good themes.
I gave problematic themes a 3. It had some fake homosexualty in it.

A great series about friendship and growth.

I thought this was a really good anime. All of the characters had their own charm and brought something special to the series. There's the overly zealous one, serous one, playful ones, carefree one, and the silent one. A perfect balance if you ask me (or close enough..).

I really loved how the series showed how each character grows throughout the anime. Not just on a personal level, but in relationship with one another. Overall, I thought it was a great series about friendship and love!

This is the series you watch when you need a laugh-- whether it be with friends, or when you need something to make you smile, Ouran is the way to go. It's laugh out loud funny, and is general a pretty clean series for teenagers. The only note is, again, about the hosts that pretend to be gay, as well as two fairly prominent side characters who are transvestites/transsexuals.

The reason I'm writing this review is I actually had a bad experience with this anime. I loved the characters, but the sexual content proved to much for me. There was no nudity beyond a couple of beach scenes, and most of these things I have problems with were meant as jokes, but for me they were too much. First off the twins pretend that they're homosexual for the entertainment of the girls (anime girls apparently love gay guys. Second the main is forced to cross dress, third just about every conceivable sexual misunderstanding under the sun for example one character is mistaken to have a fetish for s&m or a girl kisses unknowingly kisses another girl. thirdly the main's dad is a transvestite. I went into this show with people down playing the sexual aspects of this show.

Violence: It is very, very mild, with a few instances of slapstick.

Sex and Nudity: There isn't any nudity. However, the characters walk in on Haruhi changing a couple of times. She's usually wearing pants and an undershirt or bra in these scenes. The twins sometimes make suggestive jokes, and people mistake Tamaki's actions towards Haruhi as being more sexual than they actually are. Siblings pretend to be into each other as a gimmick to gain more views at the Host Club. It's overdone in a way impossible to take it seriously, though. The beach episode has a scene where one character pins another one down and states he could assault her. He has no intention of doing so, and she knows it. It was kind of uncomfortable to watch, so use your judgement.

Theological Themes: There isn't anything religious in the series, however, there are a few things more conservative Christians might find objectionable. The twins pretend to be gay for views and one character is mistaken for gay. The main character's dad is a bisexual drag queen. There are a few episodes involving an all girls' school which as a lot of lesbians.

Problematic Themes: Swearing was very mild and infrequent, though I may have filtered most of it out. The series is rather old and includes about four instances of a slur for transgender people. Haruhi's dad is implied to get drunk a few times, and he does work at a bar.

Overall: This was the third time I tried the series, and it was the first time I loved it. I'm glad trying out the manga drove me to checking out the anime.

It's very funny. Every episode had something to laugh at. Everything is so over-the-top, it's difficult to take seriously.

The characters are so amazing. We have Haruhi, who is such a good friend, while being so done with everyone in the club. Tamaki is super dramatic, charismatic, and just an extra person he almost puts Light Yagami to shame. Kyoya probably lives off of the screams of small children. Honey basically has the personality of a small child. The twins are the embodiment of chaos. Mori's just there.

They all get character development, too. Hikaru and Kaoru were super similar at the beginning of the series, but I was able to discover what sets them apart. Tamaki and Kyoya are also a lot more than meets the eye. Honestly, the only character I didn't like was Lady Eclair, who is awful.

Also Mori is the best character. No, I do not take constructive criticism.

The art was pretty cool. Everyone had a nice design. The opening was pretty catchy. I'll have "Kiss, kiss, fall in love!" stuck in my head for a while now.

I'd recommend it for teenagers and up. PG-13 a solid rating for it.
