Is There A Possible Sequel?

Postby ashfire » Tue Oct 10, 2006 4:36 pm

I just finished watching "Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie Conqueror of Shamballa" this weekend and thought the way this ends there has to be a sequel.
At the end the Elric brothers plan to hunt down the man who passed through the Gate with the device with uranium.
I just wonder where their search will take them and who will be with them and who they will meet if there was a sequel.
Also will they some how return to the world they left.

maybe. however, i really doubt there will be a movie because Conqueror of Shamballa's been out for quite a while and if they did plan on making a sequal, it probably would've come out by now.

Everything I have read on the subject has suggested that The Conqueror of Shambala was the finale to the series.

I have to give two different answers to that, really.

Answer #1
The movie is the end of the Fullmetal Alchemist anime. It was created as the finale and wraps up the final arc. I can't quote you director's comments, but I'm fairly certain they intend the Elric brothers to remain in our Germany and leave the situation as it is. At the most you might see an OAV, which has happened for some other completed series (Hellsing, most similarly).

Answer #2
Read the manga. The plot of the anime severely changes the direction of the show and entirely invents the part about the parallel worlds. So if you want "more" Fullmetal Alchemist or want to find out what happens to the characters, read the manga for the original version. It is not completed and likely will not be for some time.

At one time I would have said highly unlikely, but now I'm convinced that just about any show might end up with a sequel. I just saw the news that a Kiddy Grade sequel is now in the works.

I have been reading the manga but like said the series could go forward futher than the anime and the movie that way acourse fanfics could come up with what happens after the movie ending.

There's also one where everyone is fighting everyone else, that was pretty entertaining.

aren't these simply short stories and stuff (like in the manga's ed vs. roy mustang special). they don't have anything to do with the actual anime storyline right?

I actually think that a sequel would kill the ending of the movie. I thought it ended just fine. Sad, yes, not the ending I would have written at all. But in hind-sight, the way it would have been. Besides, any other ending would kill the "Plato+Homer+Bible=Fullmetal Alchemist" position I keep trying to convince the people in my Greek philosophy class about.

Right.

State Alchemists vs Seven Homunculi is a A 10 minute film with Ed, Al, Mustang and other members of the State doing battling the Homonculi in an alternate reality Amestris.

Chibi Party is a six minute Skit drawn in Super Deformed style where all the characters from the series are celebrating an "After Party" of the Conqueror of Shambala movie.

Kids is a three minute story which Edward and his grankids are in present day.

Live Action, this one I have no clue about. I know Vic did a LA with a few other voice actors playing their parts and its where Vic turns into Al. But that short movie from what I know is not or has been put on on DVD and I don't think it has been shown in Japan.

Hm. I didn't have much knowledge of the OAVs, though I vaguely knew of their existance. I'll have to see if I can find the State Alchemists vs Seven Homunculi one; ten minutes of FMA combat animation sounds like an enjoyable ten minutes to me.
