AWA con report

Postby Roy Mustang » Tue Oct 03, 2006 3:35 pm

I know that AWA con has been over about a week ago. But I wrote a report about in my LJ and wanted to post it here at the board. I will break the report in two parts.

AWA report part one

Thursday night:

My dad and I left the house at 18:45 and head up to North Atlanta for the con. We got to the hotel around 19:30 and check into the room. After that, we heading to Steak n Shake for a quick dinner and then went back to the hotel. After getting my badge, my dad left for home and I got everything that I needed for the next day.

Friday:

Got up early and headed down to get a little bite to eat and then waited for the dealer room to open up. I mostly look for hard to find stuff and got a few cels, sketches and a Macross poster. I then headed back to change into my FMA dress uniform that was only used in the anime once in ep 25. I then met up with a friend of mine that works at the con and hang out with him for a bit.

By 8 pm, I headed to Jock and Jill’s restaurant to meet up with Travis Willingham’s fan club, the mini skirt army. Me and others set down and order our meals, and then a bit later, Travis Willingham showed up and the fun started. Everyone at the dinner party had fun and Travis really like my costume. After dinner, who were left at the dinner party walk back to the con with Travis and he told us to take care and he headed on his way. I talk to a few member of the mini skirt army and then we went our ways and headed off for the night. I got out of my costume and went to bed.

Travis is a very nice and funny person and it was fun to be around him at the dinner party.

AWA report part two

Saturday

I got up early Saturday and went to the Ed and Roy show that started at 10 am. It was a very good panel with Vic and Travis talking about FMA and answers a few questions from the fans. The Q & A was set up in the middle of the room and you had to walk up to the microphone. Since there was only a few people in line to ask questions, I stood in line and waited for my turn. I give a shout out for CAA and give a hi to everyone from CAA to Vic and Travis and got a few cheers from the room. Vic took this time to talk a little about what CAA was and he talk a little about anime and being a Christian.

After that, I left the panel and stood in line for the autograph line. It took a bit, but I got a few more things sign by Vic and got a few things sign by Travis.

I then hit the dealer rooms again and run into Myoti in the dealer room and talk for a few mins. I then met some members of FFC and talk for a bit.

I went back to my hotel room and rested up a bit and change into my FMA costume again and then headed back out. I met up with Android Raptor at the Artist Alley and hang out with her as she selling her wonderful and pretty origami anime dolls. She has a gift in making origami dolls.
I then went back to autograph line to get drawings and posters sign by Monica Rial and Luci Christian. I then took a break from the con and had dinner and then met up with my friend that works on the staff at the con again and hang out a bit more. Later that night, I ran into another CAA member and I just wanted to say hi again and it was nice talking to you for a bit.

I went back to my room for the night, so that I could get up early for the church service.

Sunday

Got up at 8 am and headed out to get some food and waited for church service to start at 10 am.

About 10 am, headed to the grand ballroom, where the church service was going to be held. Vic was there and playing a little bit of music on the keyboard. There was a good group of people that came, but not a very big group but we had some people there. A few of us walk up and got to talk to Vic a little bit for the church service started. We waited for a few more people and Luci Christian came and the service started. Vic let us come up on the stage and we sang songs. Both Vic and Luci Christian talk about wonderful things that God has given us and we prayed that others will reach out to God and learn about his love for us. Vic put on a very wonderful service

After the service, some of us hang around a bit and talk to Vic and Luci. It was very moving and just a wonderful feeling to be a part of something like this at an anime con.

I think each one of us all came away from it with a good feeling and learn more about God’s love. I have been going to AWA since 2001 and I have to say that in all my years that I gone to AWA. This was the best event that I have been to at a con.

I even ran into a few people that ask me if I was the one at the Ed and Roy panel that give a shout out about CAA. Just about everyone that I talk to, said that its great to know there are other Christians out there that love anime and got to talk to them for a bit.

Later in the day, I meet Jennifer Sekiguchi and Amy Howard Wilson got both of them to sign a few things for me. I ran into Monica Rial, Luci Christian and Travis again. I was able to get Monica and Luci to sign the pan sketch of the whole gang from Azumanga Daioh that I had brought earlier in the day.

After that, I hang around a bit in the dealer room and then listen to the AWA closing Ceremonies and then pack all my stuff and headed home.

It was great to talk to Vic again and meet Travis this year. They are very nice and great people to talk to.

Jennifer Sekiguchi, Amy Howard Wilson, Monica Rial and Luci Christian are all sweethearts and it was great to meet all of them and get to talk to them.

And that ends another year of Anime weekend Atlanta con.

Hey WingZero 22,

Nice report on the convention. It was too bad that I did not get to meet up with you again this year, or go to the service that Vic had. I was only there for a few hours. Glad to hear that you had fun and could give publicity for the CAA.

Thanks.

And yeah. I heard that you were there, but with my luck. I must have been in the dealer room or talking other people.

I think we need to make a set date on what day as if people are coming to meet at one place at the con.

Yes, if we all go to the con next year, we should plan out how and when and where we're going to meet. I, personally, am not a very good planner, but we could try a little harder. What's the use of telling each other we're going to be there when we don't know the details? There are a lot of people at AWA each year.

Amy Howard Wilson did the voice of Nova (Mori Yuki) for Season 1 and Season 2 of Star Blazers and voice of Miranda in an episode of The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

Jennifer Sekiguchi has done a bit of voice work. She plays Guu in Hare and Guu, Eureka in Eureka 7, Wendy in GunXsword, Penny in Zatch Bell, Hinata in Naruto, Haidee in Count of Monte Cristo, Yuri/Bella in IGPX, Maya in Fafner and Mamimi in FLCL.

Man, and I didn't even get to do half that stuff (I didn't even know they had a church service! =o ). Definetly makes me want to go more next year, possibly all three days. You were also the only CAA members I met there, since I never did meet Android Raptor (did meet some people from other forums, though).

The church service thing was a last min plan, I think. Or it was plan, but it was never printed in the program book. I think the program book had been printed before all the plans for it were iron out and all.

As for the other stuff. I'm not sure you are into getting things sign by voice actors or not.

But now a days, that is the one reason why I go. To get get things sign and meet them and talk to them.
