I can't believe he died! I never liked his show or anything, but it's crazy that he died. I guess that's what you get for swimming with dangerous creatures.

The blessing is that he went out the way he lived--interacting with wildlife in their enviroment and educating people about the animals he loved. Rock on Steve.

Animal Planet is going to have a tribute to him tonight and Australia is offering his family to give Steve a state funeral.

I can't help but wonder what was the first thing he said when he made it to heaven?

I first heard about this from my preacher during the sermon Monday (college ministry, not church). I thought he was making a bad joke since that is somethng he would do. It's sad news. I feel so bad for Terri and their son and daughter. She's lost her husband and they have lost their Dad. I do wonder if he was saved.

It would be really horrible if sting rays started getting bad reputations just like the sharks have been getting. Sting rays only attack under self defense; they're not blood thirsty animals.

All animals in their own respect are dangerous. You can't blame anything or anyone in this horrific incident; it just happened. I'm sure Steve Irwin was full aware of the risks he was taking anyway.

I think it is inevitable, an issue of culture not so much individual cruelty. However, if you wish, look at it in a more positive light: comedy is a way to relieve the stress that comes from tragedy.

As for online people already mocking it... to be honest, I don't count them. There will always be people like that. I meant a time when jokes about this will be considered in acceptable, if questionable, taste.

At least he's reunited with his favorite croc Mary.

(For those who don't know what I'm talking about, there was an episode of "Crocodille Hunter Diaries" that had one of Steve's oldest and favorite crocodilles, Mary, pass away. He really, REALLY took it rough.)

I know what you mean...I didn't start crying or anything, but it was kinda touching to see clips of Steve on Larry King Live and Jay Leno...he was so passionate and so funny.

Today we had an hour tv memorial show of Steve. It was touching, it was funny/silly, it was memorable.

Awww, I was really dissappointed when I heard about this. I remember watching his shows all the time as a kid... man, it's amazing that he's been around that long. He left us too soon.

The horribly ironic part is he got bumped off by one of the world's most harmless sea creatures while filming for a documentary called "Ocean's Deadliest". Geez! It wasn't so much that Irwin was putting himself in danger as simply being a victim of random misfortune -- extrodinarily unlucky misfortune. O_o;

Sadly, being mauled by wild animals is just a regular job hazard for Steve Irwin... but still, if he HAD to die I wish he could have had a less ignoble, pointless death. Well, at least it was relatively quick and painless.

I always liked the Crocodile Hunter, even if he was an overblown Australian stereotype. The man was just so hilarious and adorably insane. ^^; But more than that, he was a great guy who'd put his life on the line for anyone. One time he was filming in Baja Mexico when he overheard Coast Guard reports that there were missing divers in the area, and he and his crew dropped everything at once to go help out. Sure enough, thanks to Steve that person was rescued in time. He made millions of dollars off his TV show, but instead of fueling a lavish lifestyle he used it to help save endangered animals and educate people. He was always a geniune, enthusiastic person who was very sentimental and totally devoted to his family. I feel so bad for his wife and kids. I think he was planning on starting a new show with his oldest daughter when he died. And his 3-year-old son will probably be too young to remember him.

My prayers are with them during this difficult time.

My little brother and I used to watch his show alot when we were little. My brother watches Animal Planet alot more than I do, and last night they had a dedication commercial to him. After my brother saw it he started crying.

If you think about it, Irwin pretty much got Animal Planet popular.

I will miss him.

They're still going to show Croc Hunter on Animal Planet. Steve made a bunch of shows and specials, and his daughter, Bindi, has her own animal show, so the torch is passed!

Some of them have washed up on the beaches in Australia without their tails.

it's really sad. i heard sting rays rarely ever attack people, it was a freak accident. I always figured he'd retire around 70 and die of some thing like an infected paper cut (i'm not trying to be humorous, that's what i seriously thought). a few days ago i was flipping through the channels and i came across animal planet, and they were showing when his daughter was born (he brought his camera crew to the hospital, much to the, uh...delight of his wife, and he was talking about what it was like holding his daughter for the first time after she was born. it was really touching, right up untill he named his daughter bindy sue, after his favorite croc bindy and their dog suey; i found it slightly odd, but what the heck, it's his kid.

Yesterday, they had the memorial service for him at Australia Zoo. The whole arena was packed! It was so moving. His little girl, Bindi, actually took the stage and gave a very nice speach about her father.

About question that Steve was a christian or not. I'm guessing yes, because I watch a show on ABC the other night, that was about his life.

It was the first time that Terri had talk since then and the question was ask, how are you dealing with this and Terri said, I have my faith or I have trust my faith. I can't remember which was which on what she said. But when they ask about what she meant by it. She said, I believe in God and it was in God's plan and everything happens for a reason.

During her intervew with Barbara Walters on "20/20", I remember her saying something like Bob (his son) was "fixing" a toy motorcycle, and when Terri asked what he was doing, he said something like "Fixing the bike so Daddy can ride it in heaven"...

Not a conversation thread we want to continue, unless via PM. However, I will say this: to characterize accepting the theory of evolution as proof that one is not Christian ignores the many Christians, scientist and otherwise, that do. It is not and should not be a litmus test for faith.
