Post things that you think are overrated and why.

Cell phones – Yeah, I have a cell phone. The bill is crazy and I still don’t get the text-messaging thing and the point of it. I have to check it all the time. I’ve also, been in countless instances when I almost wrecked into people talking on a cell phones while driving. I’ve seen drunk drivers drive better then ‘em.

SUVs – I used to want one, until I started driving….. the gas is way to much. I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse ’03, it’s an awesome little car, it looks, handles, and runs better than a SUV. The price for gas per month is less one/third of want the SUV we have costs. They tip over way to easy also, I came within’ a hair of doing that, it’s not fun. Also, I live in the South, why do I need 4 wheel drive?

PS2 – Note: I’m not referring to the games. The PS2 is way to overpriced; it’s like your spending the $200 to buy the right to play the games your purchase. Seriously, I’m trying to get why people spent some much money on a system very few impressive games, when, It was released. Wasn’t it $400? I know people resold them for insane prices. And then the publicity stunt were the Japan government said they were afraid to release the PS2 because it was so advanced and dangerous in the wrong hands. And when Sony exaggerated the polygon count. I find the whole thing funny, though.

Piercings are overrated. How is making a hole somewhere on your body and sticking a piece of metal through it neat? What did those cute lil' earlobes ever do to you? *runs away crying*

Hmm... The PS2 is overPRICED. Not overrated. It's the best system because it has the best games. It should be lowered to 100 dollars, though, since it IS the weakest of the 3 system. I may buy a cube once I get my credit card (use that to keep my card alive that month... Gotta buy something on it every month and pay it off)

I can't wait... I'm finally going to be able to buy things online without asking my parent's permission... I'll stick to amazon and half, though... Just to stay on the safe side.

Oh, and for overrated? The atkins diet... It's not right for everyone, and I personally think it's not right for ANYONE... I think it's hurting the bread industry and if millions of weight-obsesed dieters cost me my whole wheat bread, I'm going to be very angry...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

Nintendo
SUVs
Valentine's Day (if you're single)

And then a few new ones:
Reality TV
Award Shows

High school. Yes folks, high school is overrated. Everyone says in junior high "oh high school won't be this nice to you" but my school treats us like a big elementary school and refuse to listen to any voice but their own. And all the social drama and stress and all is just bleh. Oh, and when you get to be a senior, you can realize your life has no direction in it yet and you're scared out of your socks to go to college. Woo.

The Matrix (deep and original only if compared to Hollywood's usual offerings)
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I was about to recommend that you take enough math in college so that you can understand a "Probability and Statistics" course, which I personally think will be a really eye-opening experience to people regardless of their career path.

However, since you have stated that multiplication is overrated, I now turn to Technomancer for inspiration for a response.

Oh, what is overrated?

Hmmm..., well, although I just turned to one for inspiration to respond to the leader of the math angst gang, I think emoticons are really overrated. Sure, I understand their use and they are cute (which is a plus), but I believe careful writing can acheive so much more. (Geez, there goes my popularity... not that I was ever popular.)

Attempting to be cool/normal is very overrated. Be original and unique (and yourself) — make an impression on the world and everyone around you.

I second:
- Reality TV (if it's reality, then why are all the people on the shows so darn false?)
- celebrities (let's all look up to a bunch of fakey people who more often than not don't have ANY redeeming qualities except for the fact that they're stinking rich)

And also:
- over-paid major league atheletes (because they run around and endorse sports drinks to become millionaires, but teachers and fire fighters and police etc. work their butts off to get a fifth of what these guys make)
- FLCL (I can't see what's so great about it. :\)
- modern fashion (need I go on?)
- being rich (nothing wrong with it, but I can't see why people would take "be rich" over "be happy")

Cats and Dogs

This wasn't overated, it got a bad review. It just generally deserved to be in this thread.

How 'bout the Terminator trilogy?
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

ruroken: X-box is better when it comes to GRAPHICS? NO, X-box is only better in power. The graphics really depend on how good the creators of the games are at USING that power. PS2 has something about it that people can get a lot more out of it than they should, if they tweak it... X-box is not NEARLY as tweakable, and so what you see now isn't that far off from all you'll ever see on X-box. Also, people get lazy because of the power, and turn out a lot of crappy games... The most powerful system will always have that problem... It was PS2's problem before X-box and GC came around, and PS2's games are only as good as they are because the other systems are so much more powerful.

GC, on the other hand, is owned by a GAME producing company, so it won't suffer the same sort of "power trip" fates as sony did, and as microsoft IS. It will stay at a happy medium. I don't expect much innovation on the BOX, but the best PS2 developers get more and more innovative (specifically konami)

Ahem...

Chris: How do you figure Nadesico is overrated? It's popularity nowhere near approaches some of the anime on TV or the one we can't discuss. (he who's name must not be mentioned, hehehe) If we're gonna go there, then Ruroni Kenshin and Trigun are very overrated. I was very disappointed to find out how cartoony Trigun was... I was expecting more like CB style... I wasn't expecting that for RK, but I could just never get into it.

Too much fan hype. That's the reason I bought it in the first place... only, I just wasn't as interested in it as I am with other anime.

And speaking of too much fan hype: add Love Hina to the list.
