A Customer Cursed Me Out! Pray for Him!

Postby KhakiBlueSocks » Wed Sep 20, 2006 11:59 pm

Today at work, I had this customer who was really, REALLY vicious to me, and called me something I have NEVER been called before in my life, and I fear that something has got ahold of him spiratually, and it'll tear him apart.

For those who don't know, I take calls for Sprint PCS. I'm used to getting irate customers all the time, but this one was bad from the very beginning. He came on the line cursing and swearing, and when I asked him to "Please refrain from using that language", he demanded to speak with someone "who had a thicker skin" and he called me "A Big Baby". I very respectfully, yet firmly told him that I was responsible for this call, and if he wanted to speak with someone else, he could hang up, and dial *2 from his phone. He settled down a bit and we began discussing his bill, where he disputed and argued down everything I said.

He then demanded that I tell him when his plan contracts ended--I said "I'll be more than glad to tell you sir." and I gave him the information. He then said he would hang up and call back to make a payment. I offered to take it for him, but he said "No, I don't want to talk to you anymore." I said, "Okay, was there anything else you needed today?" He then called me the most profane words in the English language starting with an "N"....you get the picture. I hung up on him.

I don't know what brough it on, but I know he's tormented by what he said, so I thought it would a good idea if you guys could pray for his soul...he needs it.

meh, these people exist in the world. They're just rude and pushy; don't feel singled out.

I'm just called your alright. I panicked until I read that you answered calls, I had this vision of this guy trying to beat you up.
Unfortunatly there are people like this in the world and they is just nothin we can [physically] do for them. Fortunatley we can pray and hope the best for him.
Hope you aren't too shaken up by it all.
Will insert something intelligent here later... maybe

Crazy people...

I shall pray, for both you and him.

It sounds like you handled it beautifully though, so good for you. I had a somewhat cranky customer a few days ago (nothing like yours though) and I was incredibly polite to her. She calmed down, and was incredibly nice when she came in. It's practicing something my Mom calls "killing with kindness". Basically, if you feel like getting back at someone, be really nice to them. You're the better person, and it will often make them recognize their actions.

Proud of how you handled it. ^^

After experience from working in the public, I know what that's like, I've discovered that the general public tends to be a generally angry people for whatever reason. So bitter and angry about like, nothing. It's sad v_v I'm a cashier at Zellers (a canadian Walmart FYI) and it's hard cause some peopel think that we have all the answers and cause all the problems and it's like v_v... when they take it out on us and stuff. It's like people don't seem to think that people can/should make mistakes either. *sigh* It's a sad, sad world out there... it really is...

I wanna start wearing (and keeping forgetting that I even have it) a bracelet I have with crosses on it and stuff, just to show who I am. Usually I'm too shy to start convos, but I think maybe if I wore somethign liek that it'll more have them asks questions to me. Yeah I'm still at that point where I'd rather have people ask me the questions first and stuff^^ But I'll work on it!

Ugh, that's horrible. My cousin worked in telemarketing and said they called him things he'd never imagined, and he's a blue collar man. If your experience was anything like his... I feel so bad for you.

That's horrible. I'll definately pray for him, as well as for you.

You handled it very well, though. Good on you.

I worked as a hotel desk clerk this summer, and since we were a small staff, would often be by myself checking customers out in the morning. Unfortunately, some people seem to think that when they have a problem and the person helping them with it is a 20 year old with no visible 'responsible adult supervision,' that they have an open invitation for verbal abuse. *le sigh* Some people don't go on vacation when they go on vacation.
It's quite an incentive to finish college, lol.

Trust me, I had to walk away from my computer terminal and take off my headset after that call to stop myself from doing something I would SEVERLY regret. :mutter: :comp:

But thanks guys. I think today is going to be a much better day than yesterday was.

Really! People are so disrespectful about that! I am the same age and work in a retail store. Sometimes when older ladies come in and I offer to help them, they just look at me strangely. Then when my boss (a lady around 50) comes in, suddenly they instantly need her help. As if I couldn't do it! They don't even do me the courtesy of speaking back to me.

I know I'm not that experienced, but I pay my own rent, buy my own groceries and such. I feel I should be treated as an adult unless I show myself to be incompetent.

Wow, you are most definately stronger than I. I suppose the cursing and bad attitude I could learn to live with, but if anyone called me or anyone I know the "n" word I know I would probably forget about loving enemies and flip out.

I definately glad you handled it so well.

The public in general is nothing but a mob of angry two year olds. They can t see anything beyond two inches in front of there faces and get mad over anything. People say stuff to me at work that no human being should ever say to someone else and I think to myself "yeah buddy why don't you try saying that to me when you see me on the street. Just try and see what happens." Any way you should be proud of yourself cause if it was me I would have gone ballistic on the guy.
Come see me on Myspace if you want to and if you want to add me to your buddy list send me a note saying your from CAA otherwise Ill probably just end up ignoring you.

In a way, it kinda proves just how dumb the american people are getting--

If I wasn't the man that God made me out to be, I had the power to really make his life miserable. I had full access to his account which has his full name, address, phone numbers, and Social Security Numbers.

That's what some people fail to realize when they do something like this--The person on the other end of the phone has full access to ALL your information. The LAST thing you would want to do is tick that particular person off. Because next time, the person you're talking too may not be saved.
