That is correct. We allow one name change; this is accomplished by sending a private message to Mithrandir. Our rationale is that we don't want people changing names on a whim, but also want to allow some leniency. Or so "Legalosluvr184532" can get a better name.

On the Internet, I'm mostly referred to in short as "Rai". Although Rii-chan [ree namuras, and now you know one of HER nicknames] calls me "Rai-sama" for some weird reason. I forgot.
In real life, I've outgrown any nicknames. I no longer have any. Plus, my name [T.J.] is pretty hard to make a nickname out of. However, it is really . . . [dun dun dun] a nickname itself. The T stands for my legal MIDDLE name, Thomas [a name I rather like, as it has a knight-ish sound to it] and the J stands for Junior [anyone who refers to me as Junior will most certainly be blessed to meet their Maker post-haste]. Truth is, my dad is Tom [though it's really HIS middle name too ~ I'm the fourth in our family to have my name], and both grandfathers are Tom, so we needed something to set me apart. Yeah. I don't know why they didn't just give me a different name, as I don't really understand the appeal in naming multiple generations of men the same. HOWEVER, it is my name, and the name I go by [T.J., if you recall] is actually a nickname based on my middle name. And to think, I one thought it weird that a friend's friend went by his middle name. Life's full of irony.

well on here people usually say SD or samdrag or some variation. in real life though my name is maxwell, which leaves open almost anything...
the designated regulars:
max (used by the general population)
maxi or maxy (family)
gluteus maximus (my brother)
maxzy (my closest friend, also maxzywell)
maxipad (only one person can get away with this, don't even think about it)
the randoms: maximilian, maximum, maxipoo, maximus, maxine, you get the idea. people come up with new ones every day.
(i'm a guy by the way; maxine is used to irk me)

On CAA I'm mebo, meebs, Silent O, O, or just Nathan or Nate.
EDIT: I forgot that I also have the nickname Moe on CAA now.
In real life, we have a joke where I work about my nicknames because when I first started everyone kept forgetting my name. So one person calls me Nathaniel (my real name is just Nathan.) A couple call me Peter, and one calls me Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. XD
In elementary school there was a kid who called me the Walking Math Book. I was okay with that because I like helping people with math.
