Considering my technological ambitious nature as an engineer and a ranting/raving Gamecast host, a story like this compels me to share it with the rest of you wonderful people since it gives a glimpse on the essence of pure technological pwnage.

So here is the story... remember to click and read.

Summary: U-HDTV (i.e. Ultra High Definition TV) will have a resolution of 7680 x 4320 resolution, that is 16 times more resolution than the highest resolution of HDTV of 1920 x 1080. It will support a surround sound system of 24 speakers.... Oh, it might be available to consumers in about 25 years....

So, I will be around 50 by the time that happens. Hopefully, my eyes will still be good enough to appreciate it... and my ears.

Oh, heck yes. Darn right I will get one. I want to browse CAA with that type of monitor and upload those pictures and videos in 7680x4320 res with 24-channel sound. Mith will appreciate that.... It would be so worth it.... And everybody's signatures. WOW!

Actually... if the default font size stays around 12 point or so, CAA would be unreadable, since fonts and text size seem to be tied to a set pixel quantity. One of my friends was running a 1800+ resolution (width) on his screen and most websites were rendered to postage stamps in the upper corner of his browser and text was about... 1mm tall or around 5 point text. It hurt. 7680 res would require a huge redesign of the way text and content is related to pixels, but it would be interesting to see what could be done with that kind of resolution in interfaces, and how animated sites would look.

Part of me thinks that is cool simply because it is bigger and better, but in all honesty I don't think I would appreciate it that much. Most of the time I don't care about resolution and I don't think viewing a film in that much more detail would really improve the experience. In the end, I wouldn't feel purchasing such a system would be a good use of my resources.

That is only a problem if you get a small monitor with that res. To solve that problem, you get a BIG screen. Come on, mech. You know you want it.

Actually, with the right calligraphy font at that res, it would practically look like reading a beautifully written manuscript. Heck, forget the font, you can just scan the manuscript and we can see everything including the fibers of the paper! And it would be written by Ingemar Jr. Now that's epic!

Actually, Hi Def sets are in that ratio right now, and it will become mainstream in the next view years both in computer monitors and TV sets.

Oh, come on! Have faith, man! CAA will be triumphant and will become a major force! And the revolution will be seen in Ultra Hi Def! (And I will be looking forward to your release of the Ultra Hi Def version of your game. That would be sweet.)

But coupled with 24 loudspeakers... and with that res you can see the pores in people's skin.... I don't know. Give it more thought over the years.

By then, the broadcasting technological infrastructure would change dramatically to adjust to it, and it will become affordable. Furthermore, electronics from the past will wear and break. By then, it might a be worthy consideration.

Yeah... you're right... If I play my cards right my office 'll look like the bat cave, monitors everywhere. I can't imagine what I'd do with the screen space yet...

I think we're currently near the resolution at which the human eye can see anyway, so any improvements would have little benefit. Unless of course the pixels/unit distance was kept the same and monitors grew 5 times larger.

Moore's law is going to reach a wall long before then... Also, the only reason for that high of a resolution woule be incredibly massive monitors... Allready, 1080p is pointless on 15 or 17 inch monitors...
