TRinity Blood/Bleach: Thoughts? Opinions?

Postby ChristianKitsune » Sat Sep 09, 2006 10:56 pm

While Vampires aren't usually what I look for in anime... I have to admit the art with TB is sort of cool... I didn't like a few references to Christianity that this show had..(because to me it was sort of negative...)

But the main character sort of reminds me of Vash...for some reason... ^^;

and I will be honest, I was working on my comic for my newspaper while I was watching this, so I wasn't really paying all that much of attention....

now...onto Bleach!!!

I LOVE THE DUB. I am sorry..but the amount of time and effort that the dubbing company as well as the voice actors shows in this one.

in fact here is an Interview with Johnny Yong Bosch (voice of Ichigo) and Michelle Ruff (Rukia)

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature.php?id=260

and here is a direct quote from JVB from his Band's Forum on how hard he worked on Ichigo's voice

If you're worried about Bleach, don't be. I was told in the beginning not to make him as much of a punk like the Japanese but to give him a little heart and likeability for the american audience. That made it harder at first to give him that gruff sound but most of that gruffness will be heard after he becomes a Soul Reaper and starts fighting Hollows and especially after he meets "the Quincy". I think we've managed to find a happy middle ground that you'll enjoy. But listen for the difference when he fights to protect his family and the people close to him - I tried to give him a little more passion and heart.

He was similar to Vash besides that fact he definately isn't a pacifisti n the case of vampires.

The dub was done nicely and JVB was an excellent choice.

I just watched the first half of it, the TVMA rating scared me so I stopt. The animation was good though.

AS has been doing uncut anime for quite awhile now. They showed all of FLCL uncut and the GITS TV series. I'm surprised that they took so long to start, since they're late night.

Michelle Ruff is doing better than I expected as Rukia.

JYB got the Ichigo role for star power.

Ok, Trinity Blood : I was SO IMPRESSED with the dub. I mean, ALL of the characters seemed to match their Japanese counterparts well. [ Except for Greg Ayres, he kinda sounded too little-kid-ish comparitivly. ] But I liked all the VA's for this dub.

Bleach : The Voice acting for this one, still impressed me slightly, but I don't like Yuzu's voice, nor do I like Rukia's voice that much. Not deep enough I think. Ichigo's was pretty good, but, honestly he would've sounded better and more like Ichigo if they had told JYB to make it gruffer-sounding.

I was impressed overall. They did a pretty good job.

As to Mai-San's question, I've watched the first 3 episodes of Trinity Blood, and so far there is no nudity or sex, but there is a lot of violence and gore, so.. if you don't mind it, then go ahead. I'll give you a better description when I finish watching >.> -Just lazy-

I missed Trinity Blood last night (I forgot it was coming on XD), but I did see Bleach, and while I hadn't watched the show beforehand, I thought the dub sounded just fine. Of course, I can only think of Vash when I hear JYB's voice (XD), but I thought he did a good job. I don't know if I'll continue to watch the show or not, it didn't seem like something that'd really mesh with my interests, but I may keep watching it, depending on whether or not I remember. XD I've been out of the habit of watching AS on Saturdays, since they only played shows I had seen 110 times before, but I may start watching again. :thumb:

well JYB said in his interview he isn't an imitator but an actor...so yeah... that's probably why he didn't want to directly copy Ichigo's voice. (And anyways how can an english guy match a japanese voice exactly!? LOL it's not really easy to do)

As for Trinity Blood... I will reserve all judgement on the show until there are more episodes...from what I have seen it's really violent and really gorery..but I can deal with that. What I can't deal with or accept is if the show starts bashing christianity....

Reason why I'm not a fan of dubbing. Lets face it. Ichigo is a punk. He was a punk in episode one. And he is a punk now. Sure he's changed a bit. But the punkishness inside him still stays. Thus he should sound a little more punkish. I don't care of the dubbing is good. I'm not saying the Bleach dub is bad. Just it has some issues. I personally only like shows in the language which it was first recorded. I'm not going to watch a Hong Kong film with an english dub because I rather listen to it in Mandarin or Cantonese.
Johnny Yong Bosch wrote:and I want those familiar with the original to have a fresh satisfying experience. Almost like seeing a movie for the second time and discovering something new about it.

See I disagree with that. If I watch the english dub. I want to see Bleach. Not "Bleach v2.0". Compare Park Chan-Wook's film "Oldboy". In English it's horrendous. Because of that, the mood and emotions are not there. You get a whole different feel from watching it rather watching it in Korean. The same applies with Bleach. Yeah it's better than the English Dub in Oldboy. But I get a different experience when watching it. And that I don't like. I want the experience to be what the Director/Creator wanted it to be. Not a whole new one because of a different cast. Like I said. I want "Bleach in English" not "Bleach v2.0"

Oh, and whats the opener for Bleach? Is it Asterisk by Orange Range?

I LOVED Trinity Blood \*O*/. I've never been a big fan of vampires, but the art, characters, music, and the way things played out definently caught my eye. Gore and blood has never been a problem for me at all, so this one is definently going on my most interested list.

Bleach was pretty good, too. I loved the art, comedy, and the characters were somewhat lovable. The story was definently good and it was explained very well.

So, basicly, I loved Trinty Blood. Bleach is one I'm looking forward to also. I am so glad AS put something new up there. x.x

I've seen the sub, mind you and I find JYB equal in punkiness compared to this japanese guy that did his voice.

Gives :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: for both.

Although a bit leary and skeptical at first when they were announced I ffound that I ended up enjoying both. The only problem that I saw was that they should have had Bleach on first and then Trinity Blood because of it's more mature nature.

Trinity Blood I was surprised I enjoyed.Yes Father Abel is a Vashlike character and his first appearance is very much similiar to how Vash first appears in Trigun.Does anyone know if Jessica is going to be a regular character as I really liked her and thought that she and Father Abel were a good combination.Cardinal Catharina was another character I was impressed with.
Yes they did take some freedom by making the Pope a teenager, but remember this takes place after a bloody war known as 'Armeggedon' so perhaps the rules are different.(For one thing it seems that the Vatican is
more like a Christian Monarchy then what it is today. And it would appear that Cardinal Catharina might actually be His Holiness' sister from what I could tell. But that is just the impression I got.btw:There have been Popes that were young or younger than the one in TB.It was part of the Papal
Corruption of the past.)
Overall it was fun.BTW:Another thing is that this was done by Gonzo which might explain the Last Exile look to the airships.

Bleach.Ok,anyone who has Mitsuki Sanada as their avvie has to have Michelle Ruff as one of their top ten favorite female VAs.So naturally Rukia has to be my favorite character.Even if Ms.Ruff wasn't Rukia's North American voice I would still like her the best as she comes across as one of the coolest female characters I have seen so far in anime.

As of right now.

I like the looks of Trinity Blood, but I hope its doesn't give the chirstian faith a bad look. I will keep watching untill it gets too off the wall for me to handle.

Bleach, I watch a few more eps, but I feel that this is anime that I will not care for. I will give it a chance just like I did with Eureka 7, but I feel that both of these will be on my list of I don't these animes.

I'm around episode 83. So I can attest that the story gets MUCH better at the second story arc. (which is around episode 20some) Infact it gets pretty much addicting. The comedy fits incredibly well with the story. And It's well crafted. I recommend you continue watching. Then make judgement during the second story arc.

Trinity Blood
I have seen some of this series and intend to see the rest on AS. Given that I've already stated my opinion on how the series relates to Christianity several times, I won't bother reiterating it here.

mitsuki lover wrote:Does anyone know if Jessica is going to be a regular character

Though I haven't seen the entire series, I am semi-confident in saying no. She has not ever been mentioned again in the episodes I have seen and there is a new female lead that will appear later.

Crusader X wrote:And I was concerned about possible anti-Christian bias in later episodes as well. But from what I've read online regarding future plot synopsises and spoilers, it seems as if the Christians continue to be the "good guys" all throughout the series. Which is really all I ask.

Abel remains a priest the entire series, which supports that overall conclusion.

Bleach
I watched the episode almost exclusively so that I could discuss the dub. This will probably be the last episode I see for a long time, simply because so little of it is worth rewatching.

Regarding the plot: yes, it gets better around episode 21 when the first real arc begins. But that doesn't compare to something that will happen much later that reveals the true brilliance of Bleach's plot. Let me simply say that the series is well-planned.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:If I watch the english dub. I want to see Bleach. Not "Bleach v2.0". Compare Park Chan-Wook's film "Oldboy". In English it's horrendous.

Out of curiosity, I have to ask: what are your feelings on the anime version as opposed to the original manga? The anime is remarkably similar to the manga (even panel by panel in some scenes) but it does change the feel at times and alter certain aspects.

mitsuki lover wrote:Even if Ms.Ruff wasn't Rukia's North American voice I would still like her the best as she comes across as one of the coolest female characters I have seen so far in anime.

We'll have to see what you think of the first major arc, then. I won't give spoilers if you don't want them, but those familiar with Bleach will understand me.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:The comedy fits incredibly well with the story.

Interesting that you say that. For the sake of variety, I'll give my opinion: I think the comedy in Bleach is often out of place, barely funny, and annoying. Not that it doesn't have its moments (Rukia's drawings work well), but all too often I get the sense the directors thought "This is too serious. Hey, let's cue the funny music and have people yell at each other!"

I've only read some Bleach scanlations. For one thing, the Bleach filler is actually good (and good means better than Narutos) and doesn't look poor. (animation-wise and overall plot-wise) I've only read some parts of the whole "vizards" stuff. (Don't look it up unless you want to be spoiled)

But if I read more of the manga. Would I place it at a higher standard than the anime? Yes I would. The manga automatically takes higher precendence than the anime when comparing different things.

I didn't really mean the actual story as in plotwise (I should of changed that, my fault) rather I just like how it's so spontaneous. Like you have Ichigo and Renji righting. Then they end up getting into a stupid argument with some goofy music in the background. I like it. I understand that others may not, and that's perfectly okay.

I agree. Though I don't like it (the principle of filler) and think they could have done better in terms of bridging the plot, the filler makes a good effort at having a decent story, hasn't lost animation quality, and even has some decent fighting. Worlds better than Naruto's filler.

That's another thing that new viewers of Bleach should know. The anime follows the manga storyline very closely until around episode 64, where it launches a major filler arc that looks as though it could last 40+ episodes, possibly many more.

Like I said Michelle Ruff is one of my favorite VAs so I will probably be sticking with Rukia through thick and thin. :thumb:

I'm still curious as to the actual relationship between Cardinal Catharina and the Pope in Trinity Blood. As I said it appeared to me like they could have been brother and sister. At least they act like it.

Note:So far it appears that there are only Catholics and no Protestants in
TB,so I wonder if the RC is the only Church in the TB universe or if it's just because the main characters all belong to the RC and work for the Vatican.

Also note that they used the old Latin names for London and England:
Londinum and Albion. Also Father Abel mentioned something about
ancient or lost technologies.

In Bleach it's interesting that both Ichigo and one of his sisters can see the
ghosts. Can't wait to see when Uryu shows up as he is the character I keep getting that I am most like.

There are never any Protestants in these gothic-themed tales. Protestants don't have all the nifty imagery and trappings to make use of.

That may be a correct generalization, but Trinity Blood happens to be an exception. There are large areas of the globe that are Protestant and they will first begin to feature around episode 4 (I could be off a bit). It appears that those nations that are predominately Protestant have different views as to vampires and this matters for at least some of the plots, though I do not know how much they matter overall.
