I think I read somewhere that the very FIRST anime, was in the 20's (maybe even in the 1900's) and they were actually a couple silent films... been a while since I read up topics on "the oldest animes EVER".

EDIT: just foudn this on Wiki: "The first anime is reported to be in 1918, called Momotaro." That's old^^

Well animation has been around since the invention of motion pictures.
