Wowsers! Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) Died Today!

Talk about anything in here.

Postby soul alive » Mon Sep 04, 2006 12:13 pm

*sniff* That's really sad. I also thought it was a joke at first, but, wow. Irwin's was the only animal documentary type show I would watch as a kid.

His young family will definately be in my prayers, Irwin was only 44 himself. Terri and their 8 year old girl, Bindi Sue, and 3 year old boy, Bob.

...

This is just...I mean, the guy was supposed to be invincible!

...

Unfortunately it reminds me of a commercial that I think Steve was in. He died by snakebite cause the venom wasn't fed-exed or something...

But it was a stingray that finally got him? Sheesh... :sniffle:

I always thought he would die on one of his trips.

This makes me sad, because I practically grew up watching his show. :(

What a strange awakening this morning when I saw that announcement on Yahoo. It is a sad thing. His life was devoted to wildlife and that was his end. Kind of reminds me of The Grizzly Man documentary.

I hope that his family has a lot of support from friends and loved ones.

This was so bizzare to me, because it just felt like it couldn't have happened. I mean, I only watched his show a couple of times, but I never thought he'd really die-- maybe get hurt, or bitten or something, but him being killed just seemed way too unlikely. And then with the flip of a a stingrays tail his life ended. I guess the moral is that everybody is mortal, and that if it's given to man once to die, that even includes good ol' Steve. I just feel so bad for his wife, imagine trying to explain that to your eight year-old baby girl, and even worse, not being able to explain it to your son who hasn't even turned three yet. That's a tough row to hoe. I'll pray for her.

But what I'm wondering is, does anybody know if Steve was a Christian? Somehow I kind of doubt it, but I didn't follow his life closely enough to be able to say either way.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

I was also very sad when my mom told me this morning that he'd died. There was this homeless girl that lived with us for a long time, and she'd ONLY watch the animal planet, and I used to hate it except if the Croc Hunter was on, because at least his shows were interesting. He seemed like a nice guy and like you all, I'll be keeping his family in my prayers.

I really hope Animal Planet is going to play "Steve's Story", the biography documentary that he made a while back. If not, I have it on VHS.

I went to the website: http://www.crocodilehunter.com/ but all they had was a media statement. They're probably reworking the website to do a memorial or something.

Edit:

I'm not sure if he had two daugthers but I do know he had a son and at least one daugther.The son was part of the infamous incident where he was filmed holding him in one hand and feeding a croc with the other.

From what they said it was indeed a stingray barb to the heart.This happened
Monday in Australia which is Sunday here.They had a clip on Fox News of the recovery people dragging his body out.

They also had the President of Discovery Channel and Jack Hanna both on to talk about what happened.

It's just one of the things that can happen when you work with wild animals.
Too bad as Jack Hanna said he was one of the world's best conservationists.
Irwin's legacy will be the love of nature he tried to give to his young viewers and their families.

Gosh, I thought my dad was joking too. What was even worse is that we were over the sting ray pool in the National Aquarium. :[

I also thought that he would be one of those people who'd just die of old age. Gosh...somehow I still don't believe it happened.

Yes, sad news indeed. It seems tough to take because as others mentioned, he seemed invincible. When someone who seems that way dies unexpectedly, well it throws ya'. At least me. I enjoyed his show a lot, and although I thought he was a bit weird, it was that weirdness that made him so enjoyable. He will be missed.

It is difficult to say something that hasn't already been said. The only thing I can think of is wondering how long it will be before the tragedy has faded enough for comedians to start making jokes about it.

Steve Irwin started his show in 1992. I remember watching it as a kid in 1995. Even to begin with he had the vitality of a three year old. I don't know when he became known in the US and around the world but he will be missed, bigtime.

I don't know whether he was a Christian or not, but I think (only think, I'm not sure) I heard him say something about it all being in God's control on an interview. It seemed to me that the way it happened was too far out. THe odds were too far off to have just been coincidental. Maybe it was just his time.

Ask the people who vandalized Wikipedia with trash like "Stingray 1 Steveo: 0: Thank God for Stingrays!" and "Ding Dong Stevo is Dead". Some people can be just sick and think it's funny.

Yeah, I pretty woke up hearing the bad news (it started on the Today Show for me). He's had some near-death instances in his line of work, but I wouldn't think he expected this to happen. Hopefully he is in a better place now.

Yeah. He's in that big crocodille enclosure in the sky now...:angel:

IMHO, I think the irony was that it WASN'T a croc that got him. It was a stingray, which isn't known to kill people. According to research, in Australia, there's only been one other person killed by a stingray--a little boy 18 years ago.

One would think that a person who handled dangerous animals just about every day of his life, would die by the hand of said animals. To be killed by something that normally DOESN'T kill people...is the real irony to me.

I've always thought he served a great cause and admired his willingness to take risks in order to encourage us to respect and protect nature. He seemed odd at certain times (i.e. all his famous expressions, unusual action poses, gushing enthusiasms) but that also made him unique, his shows quite entertaining and Australia known to the rest of the world. I'm greatly saddened this loss but also celebrate the fruits of his hard work and passion.

To be taken away by a freak accident doesn't really change my opinion of him, although it does harshly remind us of the fragility of the human life. I mean, we can drop dead right this second if God so allows it.

I pray for God's spirit and support for his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Steve Irwin. Hope to see ya in Heaven.

It's allready happened... On youtube, look up crocodile hunter stingray... A guy starts rambling about the time cube and says Steve Irwin's crew plotted to kill him because he was 44... Ok, so maybe not standard comedian stuff, but the whole time cube cult is a cult right up there with the Raelians... That sounds like a really bad joke to me... And the video seemed like a parody of them, using Steve's death as a launchpad...

I remember when he did a FedEx ad some years ago where he got bitten by a snake and "died" because they had the antidote mailed to him with another carrier. My dad told me the Croc Hunter died, I got all upset, and then he showed me it was just an ad. So when I heard the news, I was totally waiting for my dad to follow up with "So look on YouTube under 'croc hunter ad [company name].'" And he didn't.

Somehow I always thought Steve Irwin was invincible.
