I wanted to list some Gilbert and Sullivan, but that would have been cheating - I never saw a performance or movie, so I couldn't post it. I have their music on CD, but never saw a performance.

That said, I myself am a very model of a modern major general...

I wish I had chances to see plays live...But much to my dismay, I've only seen them on TV. Ones like The Phantom of the Opera and Evita.

But maybe I'll start seeing a few when I can drive.

Phantom. Of. The. Opera.

XD
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

topic ressurection!!! I just found it.

I love musicals!! Some of my favorites are Mulan, Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music, The King and I, Mama Mia (someone needs to make a movie out of this one!), and Beauty and the Beast. I really want to see Avenue Q (I have the soundtrack) but haven't been able to yet.

But my favorite musical of all time happenes to be a musical that no one else has mentioned yet ^^. *drum roll* lol.

Little Shop of Horrors!!

*dramatic voice over* "On the 23rd day of the month of September, in an early year of a decade not to long before our own, the human race suddenly encountered a deadly threat to it's very existance. And this terrifiyng enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do, in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places" *cue opening number*.

Rick Moranis rocks!

"Suddenly Seymour is standing beside you. You don't need no make-up, don't have to pretend. Suddenly Seymour is here to provide you with sweet understanding, Seymour's your friend..."
Jessie and James, together forever!

AAML forever!

Forget about Eddy Murphy, the one true Dr.Doolittle was Rex Harrison in the
'60s movie musical:

"If I could talk to the animals,
All the animals,
Imagine all the things I could do!
If I could walk and talk,
And squawk with the animals,
And they could walk and talk with me,
I could go down in History!
If someone said "can you talk hippopatmus?"
I could tell him "Of cousamus,Cain't you?"

My favorite musical is deffenately Moulin Rouge... in fact I think that is the ONLY musical I actually like. Unless you call things like Nightmare Before Christmas a musical.

The Phantom of the Opera was decent I guess but it could have been soooo much better IMO and I really don't care for that kind of singing. The walk down the phantoms lair when they're singing "Phantom of the Opera" was awesome though.

The other night I watched the new "Producers" and it was horrid... I thought it'd be more like Moulin Rouge but I was sadly mistaken.

Not in any particular order:

Chicago
Evita (but only with Patty Lupone, NEVER Madonna)
Moulin Rouge
All That Jazz
My Fair Lady
Camelot (music only, the story is boring and way too slow!)
Show Boat
The Gay Divorcee (Fred Astaire)
Top Hat (Fred Astaire)
Funny Face (Fred Astaire - sensing a pattern here?)
American in Paris
The old Producers
And yes, I would count Nighmare Before Christmas

(Do any of those Xena episodes count?)

Yeah, and The Corpse Bride.

And Rudolph, the old claymation one (Holly Jolly!)

Wow. Everytime I think of one as a favorite, another comes to mind. I doubt I cold make a good list, I love so many of the musicals made in the "good old days."

Some of the ones that come to mind:
My Fair Lady
The King and I
Singing in the Rain
Music Man
Dr. Doolittle
Camelot (not too boring for me :thumb: )
Fiddler on the Roof

I like some newer musicals, too - like Beauty and the Beast and Nightmare Before Christmas.

One single favorite is extremely hard, but since practically everyone has listed multiple titles I will as well. I'll admit I'm kind of a snob and prefer most any stage production over the movie.
Camelot (Richard Burton and Julie Andrews) Never seen them on stage (duh not old enough) but like Julie Andrews voice.
My Fair Lady
Phantom of the Opera
Godspell*
Mary Poppins
Anything Goes*
Fiddler on the Roof

* - Have performed in these
Formerly Known As Johnyouth

:thumb: So that's all I got to say about that,

Moulin Rouge
Le Miserables
The Court Jester
The Pirates of Penzance
Hello Dolly! (performed in orchestra once in high school)
Vash: In the end...he just couldn't kill a man in cold blood. His daughter's murder goes unpunished. Call him weak, but...it saved both of us.

I would consider any film or play that uses both spoken dialog and songs sung by the cast to provide setting, character depth, and to advance the plot a musical. Just singing a song in the middle or in the back ground does not make a musical in my mind.

So, yeah, I think it counts.

Whooo, I have one to add to the list. Ok, so I haven't even seen it, and I've only heard a few songs off the soundtrack, but that's enough to let me know that the muscial Wicked has an incredible score! :O Really great music! :thumb:

Prairie Home Companion, out of the resurgence of musicals in the 21st century. It's absolutely quirky and hilarious!

I saw a small song sequence from that somewhere and I sure hope that gets made into a movie. Or I can somehow see the show. Cause it looks like it could make a great musical (movie) if its done right and the whole premise seems pretty interesting.

Actuallyyyy, I hear they are making a movie version of it (kind of like they did with Phantom of the Opera and Rent). This is wonderful news for me, since I don't live anywhere near New York or 42nd Street, and even if I did, it's not like I'd have the money to go see a Broadway play. XD I can't wait until it's released, though! :D
