We have to do an on road test in one go, and things such as speeding and failing to stop at red lights are immediate fail items (well, naturally).

Hahaha, on my first try on the test, the lady I had in the car with me was really strict, and she took off points for going 37 in a 35. She was crazeh. XD

Driving is fun. I just got to the point where I'm licensed to drive on my own.

In Ontario, we have a graduated licensing system. First, you write a test that tests you on road signs and other things like that. If you pass, you get your G1 class license, which lets you drive with someone with at least four years of driving experience beside you, and you're not allowed to drive late at night, or on highways.

After one year of that, you do a road test, and you get your G2. This is where I'm at now. At G2, you can drive without someone beside you and all of those other restrictions are lifted. After one year of G2, you do another road test to get your full G license. What's trickier is that you only have five years to get your G from when you start your G1, otherwise, you have to start over.

You can get your G1 once you're 16. If you're fast, you can get it before you go off to university. But I know a lot of people who are putting off getting their G because they're so busy with school and work, and they're starting to panic because five years is coming up.

So yes, we have to jump through a lot of hoops to be able to drive.

Warrior4Christ - thanks for clearing that up. But does this mean that you are allowed to take a break after each part?

You have driving lessons with a qualified driving instructor, and during those lessons you get the tasks ticked off. I think it usually takes about 10 lessons to complete on average, but it varies so some people take longer.

You can first get your learner's permit (aka. 'Ls') at 16 (must drive with a fully licenced driver, can't drive over 80km/hr - take a written test only to get licence), then you can get your provisional licence (aka. 'Ps') at 16.5 (can drive at 100km/hr, can drive by yourself, can't have any alcohol - take on road driving test or logbook to obtain), then you can get your full licence at 19 (nothing to be done whatsoever, other than hand over money). Though I think it may have changed slightly since I did it...

Hey W4C, it's kinda the same for us here at NSW, except there are two stages of the P's, a red one which you get first (and can't do over 80k/h), then after two years of that you get a green one (can't do over 100k/h), then after a year your licence becomes "full". Thankfully I got my licence back in '96, before they had all this weirdness.
