I'm leaving CAA perminantly. i've wanted to do this for a long time but I've never gathered the courage to let go.

You can find one verse that out of context orders the disciples to carry swords. They (12 of them) say that they have 2 swords. Jesus says that will be enough, which I have always imagined is being said with an eye roll: he was using it as a metaphor. Either that, or a 1:6 armed ratio is good enough.
Anyway, ordinarily I'd never have researched that verse about David. But yesterday I found myself stranded at my church with nothing except a ton of Bibles, Bible commentaries, Hebrew/Greek translations, etc. I figured that I might as well spend the time worshipping.
It took me quite some time to track down the verse (as it could be in either Samuel, King or Chronicle). Actually, there are two of them. The first is I Chronicles 22: 7-8:
David said to Soloman: "My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God. But this word of the Lord came to me: 'You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.' "
David says basically the same thing in I Chronicles 28:2-3. I'm not going to comment about this subject further.

just goes to show how important it is to study, study, study and not get caught up in what you think you know to be correct.
