Joy to the Educational System...

Postby Myoti » Tue Aug 01, 2006 5:24 am

Wish me luck, guys. School starts TODAY.
Though, I'm not going for about another hour and a half. Reason being is that I'll be taking a Joint Enrolled class at the local college, woot (though it doesn't start till the 16th).

Well, at least, I'm suppose to be taking it, but yesterday we just found out we were suppose to meet with this person about the class or we can't get in, and that person is currently out of the country ("You're telling us NOW?!"). @_@

So, yeah, fun (please pray that all goes well; I REALLY want to get into this class).

So, anyone else starting now, or is it just the cause of Georgia's inhuman decisions involving "education"? =p

Yes, I'm in school... um, in about an hour. And thanks for the luck. I may need it (though the only big thing this semester is Chemistry; I'm actually taking an "internship class" in school =D ).

That sucks. I hope they've designated some one to fill in. You should ask around, and if need be, raise a ruckus.

Not being familiar with your state's educational system, I wouldn't care to hazard a guess.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Neil Postman
(The End of Education)

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge

Actually, I think that next year, they're making a law that public schools can't start until like...only a little before Labor Day, but still in August or something. At least, that's what my aunt (who teaches in Florida) told me. Then again, it may just be an FL law, but it might be for the whole country...I'm not going back until the 18th, though, and technically, the 21st (since the 18th is only registration day). Good luck with school, though! :thumb:

I could make some sort of joke about what is school or about walking thirty miles in drifting snow, but I shant.Although when I was in both Bible School and College I do remember having to walk to class when it was fairly cold outside in winter. That's what I get for going to school in Alberta,Canada and Iowa respectively.Though the scenery wasn't bad.Ok,I love the prairie landscape, give me a house in Minnesota and I am happy.

Wowie...and I thought the 7th was bad (not me but a friend in Orlando).

I heard about that Labor Day law thingy for Florida too. It probably won't affect my school, though. My school doesn't like doing things the same time as public schools which is the cause of much boring Teacher Work Days (Well HALF-work days...we only get early dismissal...)

I go back on the 14th. I'm trying to finish reading The Scarlet Letter to get a head start in English. So far I'm like chapter five.
But I need some luck too this year to keep up three or more honors classes so I can qualify for a dual enrollment deally with a college the second half of the year.

I am also a victim of this inhumane system, starting off the year with a bang. We can't even start our online Nihongo course yet b/c the rest of the state is starting next week. Georgia does give us a lot of breaks during the school year we wouldn't normally get, but it's still taking away from our summer days :sigh:

Good luck with that. I'm already working at the campus, so it feels like my summer is over. I'll be moving in (to work more) on the 10th, then classes start on the 17th.

Thank you for your condolences, all. o.o/
Oro! is a fellow Georgian? So you truly know my pain, heh. XD

The one great thing about this year is I (currently) don't have to go into school till about 9:50 (sleeping in is so goooood =o= ). At least till the college class starts, though it's only three days a week anyways. =p

What are you studying if you don't mind my asking ^^

-1st Block: Joint Enrollement at the College (Japanese; at least, once the person I'm suppose to meet comes in and I get all this junk straightened... please Lord on high let it all go well...)

-2nd Block: Internship. Basically me and this other student go around the school to deliver and fix computers and stuff. Fun fun. =D

-3rd Block: Business Data Application. So far I've retaken the personality test (that I took in this same classroom last year) only to discover I am still the same I was as before: INTJ with Mastermind Idealism ('Mastermind...' just saying it makes me tingle ^_^ ).

-4th Block: Adv. Chemistry. Yeah... >_>

May the Lord have mercy on your school.

Indeed. Senior pranks are soon to come as well. >=)

School doesn't start for me until September(w00t). Unfortunately, I go to this tiny private school with a ridiculous dress code that becomes increasingly worse every year. I just got a letter today stating changes in the dress code; after reading it, my mother tore it up and threw it in the trash lol Utter foolishness! I'm so glad this is my senior year...I don't know if I could handle much more of this lunacy.

An enormous amount of pity here...school starting in July...shouldn't be legal I tell ya!

Yes I know the joy of dress codes as well. The no flip-flops things never quite vibed with me but that's to be expected *le sigh*.
The NO skirts on dress-down days seem a bit much.
But I'll just relish the fact that there's still a small chance at induviduality that comes with the abitity to don a shirt under our white polos.

*Misses the joy of whole Augusts* Birthdays and uniform shopping are not fun to have in the same week.
I go up in age in time to qualify for my grade.

Nope, its just not Georgia. I have been down in Fla this week and start started back for some places on Monday or Tuesday and the other parts of Fla start by the end of this week or next. My niece, so goes to the same Ga schools that I did as a kid, start next week. I know Tn starts early and some other southern states early.

But you should get use to it. Its the same way with College and I took the summer term this year in College and I started the week after 4th of July.

Our dress code doesn't seem, um... quite strict enough? Or maybe it's just that they don't enforce it enough. o_o

Can't wait for Spirit week this year. I have special plans for "Hat Day" and "Celebrity Day." =D

Just after I left my highschool they blocked CAA, which is fortunate for me (as that was my only reliable internet connection) but rather unfortunate for my sister.

School dress codes that are enforced are few and far between.

CAA USED to be blocked, but it wasn't this year (oddly enough, the VGCat forums were not o_O ).
