I have done a lot of digging into roots and g.u. to find out the backstory and exactly what a.i.d.a. 's are, be warned many an spoiler ahead....

[spoiler] The world came to an end in a tragic fire that destroyed half of the system. CC corp quickly rebuilt the game with a game they had been working on. Though not as popular as the original world this game still became the most popular game at the time. Well....that is a given what I have found is shortly before or during the fire aura made herself scarce. The game slowly began to unravel and a.i.d.a. began to appear at this time. CC corp now knew the importance of having an omnipresent a.i. like aura or even during morganna the world was safer then it was becoming. CC corp then undertook a monumental task they began to reserect the phase data that was still intact (like kite the phases where so well protected that even data drained and corrupted from the fire there was still data intact). They reassembled the phases and planned on putting them into pcs of there choosing to make a new omnipresent a.i. to restore the world r2 to what r1 had been. Something happened, and the phases escaped from CC corp and began to function on there own, only one phase was recovered and that was magus the propagation. The other phases searched and found pcs that exhibeted traits that they approved of. Ovan's obsession with life and death (listen to how he talks everything he says is about on or the other for the most part) atoli's mirage of deciet over how she looked and her relationship with haseo, haseo's original terror of death and the projection of that unto others during his reign as the feared pkk, ect. It also seems odd that ender and naobi switching to pai and yata inhabited avatars that fit them very well as well.

Anyways onto what I found about the a.i.d.a. (artificially intelligent data anomoly). A.i.d.a. work alone, work towards a goal only they seem to know, are very intelligent, they do not like humans at all, they infect normal pcs like a virus would giving the human the doll syndrom (at most it seems like mono but a million times worse, its called doll syndrom supposedly because the infected user can barely move/think reandering them into a doll while the a.i.d.a. runs amuck with there pc), and when infected a epitaph pc they force the avatar out and can somewhat controll it, ussually a data drain from another avatar can fix this. A.i.d.a. are going to devour the world r2 and the humans that live in it if unchecked.

Now onto tri-edge. What we know, he targets specific people, he tends to go after people who have the potential or are becoming epitaph pcs (atoli seemed a likely candidate for the mirage of deceit, haseo, the one guy in that party, even he attacked ovan) he cannot communicate more then a moan or a hiss, his bracelete is warped and twisted and missing one "wing" from the original kite's. Also an interesting bit of information tri-edge can be scared off, when he and ovan fought ovan used the a.i.d.a. like thing in his arm to run tri-edge off.

corrupted balmung and orca and tri-edge in a coffin. After tri-edge's defeat in rebirth his data was severly damaged, this is when tri-edgified balmung and orca appeared. They actively attack a.i.d.a.'s and attempt to repair tri-edge. They also seem as "zombified" as tri-edge. About all thats known about those two without a translation of the scans on them.

Now the biggest mystery so far is ovan. Whats that in his arm? How can he see two steps ahead as yata/naobi so elloquently put it, how did he become so obssesed with life and death, what are his goals for haseo becoming strong, and what is his final goal? None of these we know, only thing we know is every one of these moves he makes is for the growth of haseo.

There as much as I have been able to gather would like to see some peoples conjectures on the new series.

I know that roots takes place before G.U. How long before GU is it exactly? and how long after legend of the twilight is it? any word on whether or not we'll be getting roots at all? It'd be nice to get it over here since we're getting the G.U. games after all. Oh yeah, what's G.U. stand for?

If im correct several months, its not long at all between the two, but im not for sure so I will go look it up. Most people consider lottb to be fodder for the story line since it broke tradition with a lot of things but I beleive its still on that timeline that was put out with the announcment of the g.u. project. Also we are scheduled to get the anime around the same time that the game comes out, which is going to be late september at earliest but you know how it is with bringing stuff over they do it really slow so I would bet more towards 07.

G.U. stands for "grow up" but has many different names throughout the games, and each intermim report follow the gu acronym. I beleive all of the internim reports names are hidden throughout one of the trailers. example geeks utopia is one and graceless union is on. What is an interim report you ask?
