It's no manga for kids... I read an exampel at Tokyopop and was somewhat shocked.

The manga is rated 16+ according to Tokyopop's website.

Eh, I don't agree with calling it porn.
The manga has some good points. Akamatsu is a very talented manga-ka.

The anime is supposedly less-offensive however so to those offended by the semi-nudity in the bath scenes, it would be a much better investment.

I would second this. If you are concerned with the semi-nudity, go for the anime. Its pratically fan-service less, which is odd compared to the manga. Plus the anime wraps the story up into a nice tight bundle, unlike the 14 vol manga that can ramble a bit.

The anime is hysterical, I saw the first disc at Acen a couple years back. Man it's so funny with all the monks just spouting random things. Yeah alot of fanservice, and alot of "oops my hand landed on your boob" moments.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Unfortunately, that, and Naru's reactions are the major sources of humor for the manga series. The idea would be so much better if not for the fanservice.

I wouldn't say Naru's reactions are the entire source of humor. She gets tiresome. The craziness of the other characters and the old buddist men make me laugh more.

Sorry, I read the manga, which did not have the benefit of the old buddhist. What I've seen of the anime is much cleaner.

Heard the anime is good, but the manga . . . NO! I flipped through one at a Waldens bookstore and was embarrassed to be holding the thing which I promptly returned to the shelf. I was wanting toread it based on what I heard of the anime, but forget that! (I tend to read mangas before I see the anime nowdays . . .) Oh well, maybe one day I will get to see the anime and decide for myself on thatone.

This isnt kids manga for sure, but they do rate it 13 and up for a reason... most of the nudity is in bath scenes and cases of error, and frankly ive seen much worse in the rumiko takahashi books than in this exposure wise. Im 19 tho and wouldnt recommend it for anyone much younger than that, though I would say that for the Ranma manga as well due to content issues. This is the manga forum right?

Ok the way the manga works and I know its fan service however there is no sex, only sex apeal the character in a larger sense are more about getting good grades than geting laid. There is fan service but no detailed nudity no in the anime or the manga. Its as bad as sailor moons change sences which is made for kids. It's not like DBZ where the characters run around naked all the time. THe storyies plat advances pretty slow but it always gives a twist so what you thought you were sure of well maybe not. I do own all the manga and all the anime for this. I thought it was a feel good anime and manga that got away from the one guy living with eight beautiful girls and they all wanted him and he didn't want any of them. Quite on the the flip side. All the girls think his presence is intrusive and if is a bit of a perve which makes it even worse for him. Up until the very end he never stops getting smacked, however he does have to prove himself by maturing and dropping his childish perverse ways. I think he's a decent example of having to grow up. He gets good grades, he stops being such a leacerous perve, and he becomes focused on his Job and his persuit of marring Naru. And it is never illuded to that they ever have sex before marriage I read the entire thing.Although they thought about it it never happened. However I do agree there is alot of light fanservice this isn't hard henti so in my opinion safe, not to any one under like 18, but be responsible when reading manga.

I'm a big Love Hina fan too. (Manga--never seen the anime.) My favorite's Motoko.

As far as other statements go, I would say if a) you don't have a problem with nudity that reveals nothing and b) you want a story that actually concludes, go with the manga. The anime may be less fan-servicey, but it doesn't wrap up the plot by the end of the TV series or any of the OVAs.

That said, I still would like to see the anime. I do understand that (other than the inconclusive plot) it has a few divergences from the manga.

EDIT: added bold-faced word.
To all, life thou givest, to both great and small.
In all life, thou livest, the true life of all.
We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree
And wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.

I had a few issues with Love Hina, but all were mostly with the manga.

In correction to something said here, the manga DID have some sexual content, as there was a scene in one of the later volumes where two of the characters woke up next to each other, and they discussed how they tried to have sex but didn't go through with it. Also, the entire plot with Keitaro's step-sister bordered on lechery. I read the entire manga but it left a bad taste in the back of my throat.

That said, the anime is much cleaner than the mangas, and up until the last few episodes covers most of the fanservice with towels or water lines. The Love Hina again OVA isn't recommended at all though, because it deals with the Keitaro's step-sister plotline and has a very perverse scene that wasn't even in the manga.

I liked Love Hina (and especially the very catchy theme song), but I won't be caught owning the manga, and at times I'm almost too embarassed to admit that I own the first anime series. It's not something I'd recommend for someone under 17 or that has a lust problem.

i have the first volume, i just bought it because i thought the cover art looked pretty. (i'm NEVER, EEEEVVVVEERRR going to do that again..) i don't find nudity offensive at all, i think there is a difference between simple nudity and pornography~ especially, i've seen much worse than love hina ("video girl aï", and "inuyasha" even showed a male organ, when my mom was watching too... T-T )akamatsu does not show any detail, it looks just like sailormoon, where they are wearing body suits or something. it should also be mentioned that this is a (quote/unquote) "boys" comic, first published in a "shonen"(boys) magazine. therefore: booby ladies, lots of funny moments, and less sentimental. ^-^;; however after saying all this i don't think i will be buying any more of these. i'm not that interested, even if i really like the art. the story is not very interesting. so, i'll go back to my gal's comics and stuff. ^-^ except for video girl aï. there is only nudity at the beginning and after that is more sentimental... but that's another story, whoops!!

sailormoon type nudity

Postby Chapel » Sat Feb 14, 2004 9:40 am

But really all it is is sailormoon type nudity which is made for kids under 2. I mean people saw more boob in the superbowl than the would here. Still my mom would still give me crap about such things, I have posters all over my apartment and a few have a bit risky clothing and she'll come in and laugh at their getups tell me how no girl in her right mind would ever wear that and then shake her finger at me and say and your going to be a minister? (side not for all those concerned about my salvation the poster in question is one of Naga the white serpant.) So yeah i don't find nudity in its self offensive. Full on sex would be that line. Lets face it however in the rest of the world, everywhere except America nudity isn't a big deal, Violence is and THe rest of the world is just aw struck at the violence on TV we have in america. So if you ask me question the amount of guts you see not the no clothes characters boy or girl in anime.

If there's any 'morals' to it, it's that you should always be there for your friends. That, and perhaps that perseverance pays off--and maybe that "love conquers all." As far as the characters themselves being 'moral', in a Christian sense, don't bother. They do grow, and the character development is one of the manga's strongpoints, but it's not a Christian manga nor is it written in a culture with a Christian majority. There aren't many books or movies in the world that could be called "Christian" in worldview; the number of anime/manga can be counted on two hands, I'm sure.

The manga is rated 16+ right now.It was rated 13+ at one point but the books that say 13+ are rare(My friend has two of them).Maybe thats why there was some misconception(sp?). :thumb:
