Amazing number, yes, as always in times of crisis. Rapid rate only if you anachronize and read things into the Bible from your own times that weren't actually there. For example, taking the Hebrew word for Chief, Rosh, and saying that because it vaguely sounds like "Russia" making this elaborate scenario where Ezekiel 38 refers to some kind of Russian invasion of Israel. Real Biblical scholars with credentials in ancient history like Edwin Yamauchi, rather than slackers like Tim Lahaye that think the best interpretive key to the Bible is the daily newspaper (even you dispensationalists can do a lot better than Lahaye), have however figured out that "Russia" is not linguistically related, nor related by one iota of evidence, with any "Rosh" as a people rather than as a chief prince.
And the whole "last generation when the fig tree blooms" thing is pretty clear that it should be happening within our generation.
Yeshua Himself however literally said right after that "By no means shall this generation pass away before all is fulfilled." (Matthew 24:34) (and the Greek adjective is literally "this" and not "that", which could have been used of a future generation if it was intended). Because I believe that Yeshua really meant what he said by this, because I can prove the phenomenon surrounding this passage all came to pass in the years leading up to A.D. 70 (
http://www.preteristsite.com/authorindex.html#ghost although I wrote that about a year or two ago) when at last the fall of Jerusalem which Matthew 24 and Luke 21 has at its epicenter, and because I can prove that the cosmic phenomenon match with Jewish apocalyptical metaphorical hyperbole, I do not think it unreasonable to believe that the events of Matthew 24 do not refer to the Second Coming, did occur within one generation as Yeshua expected, and likewise Yeshua has not given us a timetable for His return, with at most things we can approximate from the prophets and epistles that must occur first.
