Super Bowl XXXVIII Commercials

Postby uc pseudonym » Sun Feb 01, 2004 3:45 pm

To be frank, I really don't care about the Super Bowl. The only reason I even know who is playing is that someone mentioned it around me and I generally remember everything I hear. However, I will go into the other room for every commercial break to see what companies have spent millions of dollars on.

This thread isn't for those who want to seriously discuss the game, or like football. I'll leave them alone. This thread is for the commericals. Every commerical break or so, I'll pop up here to mention those I feel are worthwhile.

Those worth mentioning so far:
Bud Light- dog tricks
Monkey on guy's back
Bears sneaking into store to get Pepsi
Internet connection attached to motorcycle

In the future, I think I'll just edit my posts. For now, though, I'll post again:
Willie Nelson Doll
"Big" Car
Ref taking verbal abuse
Clydesdale donkey *possible contender*

If anyone other than myself cares about commercials, I might have to turn this into a poll later. We can see what CAA thinks the best commercial was.

I would have to say thus far my favorite has been the Pepsi/Bears.

I've been too lazy to post the rest, but I have been recording them. Now that someone else posted, I feel fine about posting the next part of the list. And yes, the bears commercial was classic:

Horse farting *sigh... I have to list it*
Pepsi romance
Snow volleyball (certain people I know found this quite funny)
Old people fighting over Lays *another contender*
Kids with soap in their mouths

I liked:

The Muppits/Pizza Hut commercial.
Pepsi/Bears (this'll be a new classic I think)
Clydsale/Donkey
AOL/Motorcycle

I know I've missed some, and I've literally missed some (been flipping channels and whatnot).

Sierra Mist jumping
Talking monkey
Staples: Hard-hearted resources person *classic*
rocket blows up car
Budweiser: driving/lipstick
Guy being raised by wolves
Simpsons/Mastercard
Racecar quarterback
Shards o' glass popsicles *another contender*
7up Hoop

Ref verbal abuse was great. That was my fav. Overall though I have to say this year's commercials really sucked compared to years past. What a waste of millions. Also old commercials should never be aired during a 4 million a minute (or whatever) time slot. There was way too much of that.

I really liked the Staples Mafia one too.

I thought the Jimi Hendrix one was pretty cool (is that an old one? I wouldn't know...) Same with the one with the car where the sound had to catch up to it.

I liked the AOL ones with the guys from American Chopper. I thought they were fun. The Pepsi commerical with the new iTunes music thing was pretty cool too. And the donkey was just cute!
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

I liked the ref verbal abuse one, the AOL/American Chopper ones, and the Staples Mafia one. Hated the Pepsi ones (they strive way too hard to be 'cool') and the horse farting one. The rest were just so-so.

You guys didn't like the bears commerical? I didn't think it was bad at all.

In any case, I'll take all the commercials recommended in this thread, in addition to my own, and put them in a poll. Then we can all vote. Personally, though, I'm casting my lot in with the Staples Mafia. It was actually original, and quite funny in an intelligent sort of way.

Hmm. All commercials with one vote are in a dead heat, so far. With just seven votes, it's hardly over, however.
