Has anyone seen these shows?

Postby plutogrl03 » Fri Jan 30, 2004 2:38 pm

Hi, this is my first thread so bear with me.

I have been trying to research some anime shows that my brother and I are interested in. I want to make sure they are OK to watch (Little to no cursing, etc.) If you have seen any of these series, post a message. Thanx! ;)

Rune Soldier
Pretear
Tokyo Mew Mew ( I don't think this one is in America yet, but I'm still interested in it)
Those Who Hunt Elves
Lost Universe

Oh yeah, thanks Straylight for making me feel welcome!

Because of the differences in makeup between Japanese and English, almost anything translated by your average anime company will have "d" words and Hell and such in it. Words are viewed very differently there. The only way you'll find anime with no such words would be to find someone who translated it with children as a target. Pokémon, the Dub of Sailormoon, Dragonball Z... Those sorts of things...

The only show on that list that I've seen is Those Who Hunt Elves. Apparently, there is nudity in it. What I saw didn't have any nudity, though it came very close, but I only saw a bit. The whole premise of the show is that these people trapped in a fantasy world must strip elves to find pieces of a spell to get them home. That translates into a lot of fanservice. Fanservice is things that are not necissary to the plot that are put in to satiate fans. Usually, that is something sexual, such as a girl in a towel, zooming in on a girl's chest, or a guy falling into a girl in a precarious position on accident. Girls are not the exclusive devices in fanservice, but it is more for guy fans...

The cleanest thing I've ever seen is Grave of the Fireflies, but it's very sad. Other than that, .hack//sign is pretty clean, though the opening is a bit of fanservice and people wear some revealing stuff (it's that way for a reason, though.) Gundam Wing is relatively clean, though some argue over certain aspects of the show. The other Gundam shows are not so clean, but you will probably only see them in edited form.

How old are you and how old is your brother?

EDIT: This should go in ANIME not in GENERAL.

I've seen Pretear. I don't think there is any cursing, I just bought the second DVD today. I'll give you an update on it later.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Lost Universe is pretty good and pretty clean. It's by the makers of Slayers, so it's got some silliness but also some good action.

The movie is very well-made.

It is a bit depressing though as it deals with the harsh reality of war on children.

I had some hopes for Pretear for my daughter, however, there is a good bit of bad language in it, at least the English dub.

Those Who Hunt Elves>

TMM is in manga form in the US right now, and I LOVE it! It is clean and cute and very good. ^_^
TWHE, I have heard is not so appropriate. One of the things is that they have to strip the elves to find the mark or whatever.
The others I have not heard about, sorry.

First of all, I apologize for putting my thread in the wrong category. Like I said, this was my first time starting a thread. If there is a way to move it, let me know.
In response to Bobtheduck, I am 18 years old and my brother is 16. I have Grave of the Fireflies on video and I started watching .hack//sign a few months ago. I don't understand everything that is going on in the show, but I still like it. Neither me or my brother are new to anime, just looking for some other shows that might be good.
Does anyone know the name of the series that Gypsy got that clip from? (the one with the two girls) it looks interesting.

Thanks to everyone who has told me about the anime series I asked about. I noticed no one talked about Rune Soldier. Someone out there must know about it. My brother is really interested in that series. Give me some info! :P
Bobtheduck, I gave you my me and my brother's ages. Any other series you suggest? Reply or PM me. Thanx!
