The Super Bowl XXXVIII Thread

Hello.

I searched, and I did not find anyone making a thread about the big game. I mean considering that a very important person from Texas once had a thread about, "if the CAA were a football team...." And since the game is in Texas....

Well, anyway, let's get started.

Who do you think is going to win? Favorite Player? Favorite Commercial? Expectations?

Personally, I am hoping for the triumphant return of Terry Tate, the Office Linebacker. I thought that commercial was brilliant.

Of course, I probably will be too busy to watch the game.... But please share your thoughts. Even during the game!

Neither of them are my teams, but I'm going for the Panthers. I'm expecting the Budweiser and Pepsi commercials to be good and hopefully a few obscure ones. It just all depends on the year.

I just saw the Terry Tate site and the preview of their new commercial.... I will withdraw my previous statement about looking forward to that commercial. (A shame, really.) Though I still think last year's commercial was brilliant.

well, I for one am very excited about the Superbowl this year. Neither of my teams (the Oakland Raiders and the Houston Texans, of course) made it this year, but still...there is just something about being a native Houstonian that gives you a thrill about such a huge event coming to YOUR town. For months now, Houston has been getting ready for this day---heck, the whole reason we even have that new lightrail is to transport everyone around. The only bad thing is it will be a nightmare trying to go anywhere. All the hotels alone within 100 miles are booked solid.

As for winning and such...#44 on the Panthers is a graduate of my high school, Jared Cooper (Kooper?), so I guess most of my hometown here will be cheering for him. I don't really care who wins too much, I just wanna see a good footbal game.

My youth group is also having a superbowl party. If they weren't I probably wouldn't watch the game at all. I have never been a big fan of professional televised sports. I just can't see taking three hours out of my Sunday for months to do nothing but stare at the tv.

I honestly don't care who wins, but I'll flip a coin right now, and...

...it was tails, so I want the Panthers to win.

The funny thing is, the rest of my family, especially my mom, grandmother, and sister are really into football, basketball, etc.

Well, honestly, you are giving way me too much credit by saying that I remember that thread. Before I started this thread, I used the "search" utility on this web site, and started off looking for "Super Bowl." Surprised that I did not find any thread about this event, I then searched for "football" and that's where your CAA football team thread came up. After reading your post in that thread, I was a little surprised that no one has mentioned the Super Bowl.

Just for the record, although in real life I'm more of a basketball player and a (former) martial artist, if I were to be on the CAA football team I think wide receiver or strong safety would be my positions. They sort of fit the description of "lightning from a clear sky." Either catching an impossible pass, or just smashing someone from out of nowhere seems to fit my competitive/stylistic profile.

Right, back to the game, seems that so far the Panthers is the team with more support on this thread. Is there anybody from the northern US (or anywhere else) that like to chip in support for the Pats? How about people from other countries? Do they even care?

As for the members who are having parties over this game, I request that you eat more than you usually do. Since I am now convinced I will not have time to watch the game, I will not be able to support the food industry as I normally would do during this game. Thus, I would appreciate if some of you can make up for my lack of food consumption.

For the record, I would probably be a coach of some sort. Because I love strategy, have great attention to detail, and cannot play my way out of a paper bag...yeah, coach.

Panthers are going to win. John Fox doesn'yt get the credit he deserves for doing what he has with this team. The Pathers receiving core is better. Not to mention their running game. I'll give it to the Patriots that they have the better quarterback AND defense, but I think Carolina will dominate the line of scrimmage, and hopefully Delhomme won't lose it for them. I will say that for sure the team with fewer turnovers will win. There you go, my two pennies.

I'm generally not a sports fan, but I've gotta watch the Superbowl because let's face it, it's a good excuse for a party. I'm rooting for New England because the Patriots were my old highschool football team. Glad to see they're winning so far

Grrr. Oh well. The Patriots won: 32 to 29 I think it was. It was a pretty close game the whole time. Not bad.

Ah... The hundreds of thousands who got so see that lovely halftime show... Actually, I didn't see it, but my Mom told me about the infamous event with Janet Jackson...

Anyhow, the best part of today was all the food... And playing bubble bobble arcade... (we have arcade games in the back of my church, and the college group had a superbowl party, even though I spent most of my time elsewhere)

I really shouldn't have gone because I've got homework (oh, and here I am typing away at the forum)

I'm proud enough of my geekiness to say that I "watched" the whole play-by-play on superbowl.com (streaming audio, pfah, I say ... I used the text play-by-play and hit reload every so often).

Was a great game, I am a Raiders fan....so It did not kill me to see either team win. I had a reason for both...

1.Pats earned it...15 wins in a row and the local team
2. Panthers have never been there (I was rooting for the Panthers)

Actually I didn't watch that part. I didn't really watch much of the game (excluding commercials) between the first and last minutes. I had work to do, but I brought it with me and finished in plenty of time.
