And I'm not talking about the movie...so don't move this to the movie board.
Now, this is one of those issues that some of you will absolutely love, some will loathe, and others will not care or understand in the least.
Before I explain the actual organization, it is necessary to tell you a few things about myself. I like fighting, and I like martial arts. I like fighting games, action movies, and anime with lots of fighting. When I was a kid, I got into a few fights (yet I was never suspended or expelled...gotta love being smart). As you can imagine being able to actually fight in a controlled environment appeals to me.
One day in december, I was at a youth group Christmas party. After it was dark outside, we had a huge snowball fight. Then, around midnight some of the guys and I started wrestling in the snow. We made a circle, with one guy in the middle. He had to fight until he lost, as we went down the line. Everyone had a lot of fun, so we decided to organize it as a weekly club. Since "Fight Club" was our major inspiration, we called it Fight Club. Creative, No?
Two others guys and I worked out most of the details, including rules, location, time, etc.
Last night at 11, we met in a huge courtyard for the first official meeting. Four guys showed up including me. It was cold, and there was snow on the ground, which helped for a few reasons. First, the snow broke our falls; second, we had heavy coats and gloves, which softened the impact of blows. Since there were only 4 people, we just did 5 free-for-alls, rather than the traditional two-person matches from the movie.
Since we were all friends, and more importantly Christian friends, we made some additional rules to help reduce/avoid injuries:
1.No face/groin shots
2.No kicks
3.Tap to indicate submission
With those rules in place, there were no serious injuries, and everyone had a lot of fun. Hopefully next time there will be more people though.
Where do you folks come in? Well, I want to know what you think of this. Does it sound like something that you would do? Post your comments, suggestions, or whatever strikes you (no pun intended).
One final thing: I'm aware that "you're not supposed to talk about fight club." Well, we want it to spread; and besides, I doubt any of you will ever be in my area.
