I'm just curious, where can one get absolutely pure water?

Really?

Why wouldn't it be drinkable?

Maybe from a glacier? I guess that's where you can get natural pure water.

From a pure hydrogen/oxygen reaction. It's pretty dangerous to use that method in the home, though.

Wherever, if anywhere, you can obtain it, I'm sure it's not easy to come by, at the least.

Isn't distilled one of the closest things? Doesn't taste like much though XP.

We've been using a Berkey Light water filter for about 2years. It's as pure of water that I've had- much better than bottled water too. It can filter tap water to raw sewage in rivers or pond water. Then we got the an add on filter to take out the flouride in the water. By far the cleanest, freshest water I've had.

Yea.. I don't get the whole flouride thing.. It's a deadly poision that is 1.Meant to stay on your teeth for about 15+ minutes at a time 2. Not meant to be swallowed.

It's not going to clean people's teeth in a few seconds.. but It will certianly slowly kill the person drinking it.. o_o..

I don't think pure water is that farfetched. Last I heard, stuff (like chlorine, bromine, and other stuff) is put into water. I don't know much pure water and its whereabouts.

Yeah flouride is no good to drink... There's a good reason why you spit it out! Just drink natural spring water. Mom fills the five gallon jugs at the grociery store for the cooler. Our city water is icky to drink, though it's safe enough.

We use distilled water in chemistry and biology labs, so I assume that it's "pure" water to some extent.

I don't even know if completly "PURE" water would be good for a person... but... As long as I can have plenty of delicious cold water near at hand, I don't really care how pure it is... if there are chunks of debree in there though... that might be a problem!

I seem to recall that the water in one of the disneyland rides was "so pure it would stripthe enamel off of your teeth" that... doesn't sound too good to me.

*echoes everyone else* We have a system running in our biology room that keeps a thing full of pure water. If we leave it off the water starts smelling really bad though... anyhow, our teacher said pure water isn't drinkable. *shrug*

Lies. Pure distilled water isn't bad for you. You just won't get any minerals out of it though. It's still water. Completely up to you whether or not you find one or other taste better. It doesn't magically suck away minerals from you nor will it dissolve your face. It's just water dammit!

For note, distilled water is water that's been boiled, then its steam collected, which is then turned into liquid water again. Pretty much pure water with next to no impurities.

That too, but you don't get much water out of that unless there's a lot of them gas, and well, enough of them to make decent amount of water (few litres?) would be enough to blow up a house. Explosions still win though :P

I believe I was referring to high level DI (deionized) water.

Perhaps there are impurities in the labeled distilled water that make it undrinkable, but pure distilled water is alright to drink. In fact, distillation is used onboard pretty much all US Navy ships to make fresh water from sea water, so the lack of minerals isn't likely to be a problem. As for fluoridization, please people, stop bringing up ancient conspiracy theories. The fluoride in our water has decreased the incidence of tooth decay without any sure links to deleterious effects at this point and is supported by the majority of US medical associations and governmental health authorities around the world, so please don't start sounding like Gen. Jack D. Ripper from Dr. Strangelove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr_Strangelove#Synopsis)

Some hardware stores (such as Canadian Tire) will sell pure water as "deionized water." What do you need it for?
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Distillation may be an easy way to get almost there, but since when do we settle for almost? Let's go for absolutely, 120% pure water, made by explosion!

D2O (2H2O) is drinkable... it would kill you in about 10 days if thats all you drank though. Make you ill in about a week too. Tests reported dizziness after a bit as well.

Heavy water out of a reactor shouldn't be drunk due to other isotopes contained in it... radiation poisoning.
