Anyone here like roller coasters?

Hey all,
I just thought I'd start a thread about thrill rides. I love roller coasters, but I find the older I get, the less I like the crazy out-of-control ones, and the more I like those just about speed, height, and air time.

Funny thing is, I only just discovered last fall why people take their hands off the bars and put them up in the air. I never did it till then, and all of a sudden, I understood the thrill of air time, and I have really come to love it since then!

We just went to Six Flags Great Adventure this week, and I got to ride the new El Toro coaster. Great coaster, but a total headache inducer. I think my favorites are Kingda Ka, Nitro, and El Toro. I like Superman: Ultimate Flight , too. Kingda Ka is by far my favorite though. Words can't describe the rush it gives...

I haven't been to too many parks, but Universal Islands of Adventure has a couple of good ones too.

Anyone else have any favorites?

Ahhh, in Norway we have one *big* amusement park. It got a coaster named speedmonster who goes from 0 to 90 kilometers per hours in two seconds.

Yeah, I love roller coasters. The tallest one I've ever been on was like 258 or so feet.

The fastest rollercoaster I've ever been on was similar to that. Although I think it was only 50mph. Does the one your talking about just shoot forward really fast?

My favorites are wooden ones. The bumpiness adds to the thrill.

Also when it's raining, rollercoasters go much faster, as there is less friction with the wheels and railing.

I also love Batwing, where you lay down on your stomach, its pretty scary XD Superman Ride of Steel is pretty good too.

I absolutely love roller coasters.

At Worlds of Fun they have a roller coaster called the Mamba that goes 75 miles an hour, beginning 20 stories high.

I'm OK with some roller coasters. XD The only one I've been on (not sure if this even counts as a real roller coaster) is the railroad one at Disney World. XD I've never been on one that goes upside down, really really high, or anything like that. XD But hey, one day. O-o-ne day. XD

I could barely handle the Dragon Swing. u_u (Which is like a boat thing... and it swings back and forth? And at the worst parts it's like... vertically straight, roffle. D:)

I generally avoid amusement parks(not really into the thrill thing). I'd like roller coasters if they didn't have those huge drops...I hate the falling sensation...but the sensation of being smashed into your seat when the coaster does a spiral or a turn is awesome! G-FORCES!!! Still, I've only ridden coasters a handful of times...

I can't stand roller coasters. I've never seen the excitement in them. ALl I ever felt was a discomforting weightlessness with from what I've told is the best part. So I avoid riding them when I can.

I hate coasters so much that I luv them. Usually a friend has to drag me on kicking and screaming. And then I'll be "let's go again."

But honestly, I'll never completely lose my fear of drops.

Now to go toture myself at Universal Studios some more. (I'm going with the church youth group on Monday.)

YAY Cedar Point!! I luv rollercoasters. Not the spinning ones though.. bleh. I also do prefer the newer metal ones over the old wood ones. My favorite is either Dragster (0-120 m.p.h in 4 seconds w/ a 400 ft. drop) or the millenium force (310 ft. tall w/ top speed of 93 m.p.h). I like the parts when you fly up in your seat and stay airborne for an extended period of time.

Yeah, Kingda Ka is the tallest and fastest in the world. It goes 0-128 mph in 3.5 seconds, and is 456 feet high. It's like someone took Top Thrill Dragster, and decided to go just enough further to claim the title of tallest and fastest. Last year it spent way more time broken down than actually running. Two weeks after it opened it had to be shut down and repaired for 2 months because something broke. I was surprised this week to find it running just about all day!
Nitro is 230 feet high and goes 80 mph, and El Toro (a brand new woodie that opened a month ago) is 181 feet high, with a top speed of 70 mph and a first drop angle of 76 degrees, the steepest on a woodie in the world.
It's funny how some people hate airtime, and others just love it... I personally love it!

I love roller coasters. They keep my roller drinks from damaging my roller table.

Wait, the rides? Not particularly impressed. I do like the idea of actual coasters with rollers on them though.

We almost went to Mt Fuji when I was in Japan, which had the Dodonpa, Fuji-Q Highlands near it. (It was once the fastest, now third, and it's still the quickest accelerating.) But it was too far away, so we didn't go.

I've only ever been on two: Twister II at Six Flags Elitch Gardens, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Rollercoaster at DisneyWorld.

Twister II scared me spitless, and I hated it - feeling the wooden structure shake as we went over it was just too much; I was so scared of loosing my lunch that I clamped my mouth shut for the entire ride (apparently, I literally looked green in the laser pictures). I loved Thunder Mountain though... screamed my face off for the fun of it, since at 30 miles per hour, it wasn't very scary; being a few years older since the last one and not having just eaten lunch really helped though. X3

I'm terrified of heights, and have horrible motion sickness, but I think with a motion sickness patch and a friend willing to go with me (aka: drag me on kicking and screaming), I'd totally try a bigger roller coaster. Even if I got scared and sick enough to never want to go again, I'd like to try it at least once. Though, I thoroughly plan on keeping my death-grip on the safety bars and screaming my face off. XD

I love Roller Coasters-- Kraken at Sea World (Orlando) is really cool as is Goliath, the new one at Six Flags over Georgia. I also love the Great American Scream Machine, Mindbender and the Georgia Cyclone.

I'm kinda surprised how many people don't like roller coasters. For how incredibley jammed the parks are, I thought there'd be more!

Six Flags Great Adventure does have this cool thing called Flash Pass, much like Disney's FastPass, only you have to pay extra for this one, whereas FastPass comes as part of your Park Hopper in Disney. Anyway, it's well worth it. You scan it at a ride entrance, and it gives you a return time equal to if you waited on line. So if the wait time for a ride is 2 hours, your return time will be 2 hours later. It holds your place in line for you so you can go do other stuff. It saved us loads of time last week. We even got on the new one El Toro twice, as well as about 5 or so other coasters. A couple we didn't even scan - while we waited for our return time on one ride, we'd go wait on a short line for another. It's really handy, I'm glad they came up with it, even if it isn't cheap.

personally, I hate roller coasters. Sure, I'll go on them...doesnt mean I like it..not one bit >_< XDD okay..maybe a little...but right when I start to get comfortable with it the ride ends lol.

Mmm. Yeah, I could see how you'd say that about traveling carnivals and boardwalk rides. But standards are much higher than they used to be. Check out these stats from the National Geographic Supercoasters Facts Page :
"Overall, the risk of injury is low. Of the 900 million rides taken in the US each year, about 1 in 124,000 results in a significant injury. Only about 1 in 15 million requires hospitalization, and 1 in 150 million rides taken results in a death."
Them's some pretty safe odds!

My favorite coaster is Batman at Six Flags Magic Mountain... Then Montezuma's revenge at Knotts, even though it's way too short... I just like the launching, Superman doesn't compare... Been to Great America (Sacramento?) and it sucked... They had Top Gun, which was sorta like Batman, but not as cool, and a ride that, if I remember correctly, was like Montezuma's revenge, but not quite as good... I don't like most coasters because I don't like shaking... Viper, Riddler's Revenge, Revolution, flashback... These all leave me in pain afterwards... And Standup coasters are bad for business if you're a guy...

I HATE HATE HATE HATE ROLLER COASTERS. It's not so much motion sickness as it is a fear of heights, speed, and all the other good stuff that comes with it. I can hardly handle the kiddie rides at the fair! I've been made fun of by CARNIES! It's pretty embarassing to have a carnie call you a baby. I went on the Thunder mountain roller coaster when I went to disney with my grandparents and my grampa said I nearly tore his arm off, I was squeezing it so hard. Roller coasters are not my friends.

I have never actually been in a roller coaster, but I know I'd hate them. Actually, I just had a nightmare of an amusement park a few nights ago.. In the dream I had been forced into a roller coaster and there was no way I could get away, until it was too late..

My favorites:
Six Flags over Texas- Titan and Mr. Freeze
Six Flags over Georgia- Superman: The Ultimate Flight (my first love), Batman the ride and Deja Vu.
Busch Gardens, VA- Apollos Chariot
King's Dominion, VA- Shockwave and Hypersonic XLC (the shortest and most thrilling. Apparently, it's the only compressed air launch in the US)
