Mainstream Christian Voice Actors

Sure, like some of the rest of you have mentioned, it kinda sucks that said Christian VAs curse and such things in some of their shows, and yes, of course they do have a choice regarding what roles they play, but plain and simple they also have lives to live and bills to pay! As far as I know voice acting is by no means extremely glamorous in terms of the paychecks, so without making them sound shallow, I think part of the reason they might accept what we consider to be the occassional unsavory part is partially due to the fact that they need to make money just like the rest of us to support themselves and their families! Same thing goes for Christian bands that might sign new record deals; sure they must be careful and discerning that they don't get so centered on income that they lose sight of their calling, but just the same, many careers in the arts are hardly financially substantial unless you get the illusive "big break" or have been at it for a LONG time with a steady fanbase/number of jobs and outlets.

As a side note (and this is covered in another thread I'm pretty sure), yeah, Ed Elric isn't so much an atheist (he does talk about God existing later in the show) as he's just very angry and hurt, and honestly is looking for someone or something at which to direct these feelings. I don't feel FMA condones this attitude so much as it's just showing us viewers that hey, this kid has gone through something horrific and serious; who's to say some of us may or may not act that way or have such thoughts if we were to say lose someone dear and precious to us, especially in a gruesome fasion? Anyways...........that's my two cents..........

Would anyone be able to access a transcript or something like that of the chat with Vic just so we'd have a better idea of what he said exactly regarding the faith of some of these other VAs? I think that might be kinda spiffy and rather informative for this thread :-)

Another thing: Let's not let this thread turn into some kind of crazy debate forum, especially since it's concerning people's faith, that will prolly get locked if things go too far.

Bottom line: for those VAs that we know to be Christians, the very best thing we can do is just pray that God opens doors for them to share the hope they have in the industry in which they work
For those that we're not sure about, the best we can do is pray that they come to know Him in some manner and if they already are Christians but are perhaps expressive about it in a different way, then pray for opportunities for them to minister in their respective fields as well :-)

*sighs* a debate over weather or not someone is a christian because they swear. They don't claim to be perfect guys, sure Vic swears in some of the anime he is in but not all. Look at DNangel for example he doesn't swear at all. And also if you wanna use that logic against other actors look at mel gibson. Mel swears ALOT (lethal weapon 4 is a prime example 40+ f-words most said by gibson) then well he made the Passion of the Christ. So in short yes some Christians swear (even non-actors) but I don't think we should judge them for doing so. Looking at them as less of Christians than ourselfs is just as bad a swearing in Gods eyes. Ok now that i've said that I say we get back to the topic on hand discussing which VA's are christians and not which ones say the worst things. So lets drop the "potty-mouth" topic (yes when i say drop it i include myself in that group)

I have a feeling there might be more Christian[or Catholic] VA's that are not on that list. You never know who in the Mainstream VA industry is a christian..or atleast a closet christian.

Well, Eva-boy wasn't asking for a list of all the VA's; just a list of the ones that Vic mentioned. Vic has obviously not worked with all the VA's out there, and so I think that there's simply no way of knowing which VA's are Christians until there's more info on that subject. Until then, I'd rather this debate over which VA's are Christian or not didn't continue. But that's just me. XD

Well if anyone else comes across any VAs who are Christians I think we should just encourage them to list them and the source where they found it.
Oh and Johnny Yong Bosh also is Renton on Eureka 7 if that was missed.

On the subject of VA's,but off the topic, I would like you guys to Pray for Wendee Lee.

Thanks and Godbless.

As for the Christian VA's I thought i heard the woman who played the voice of sakuya on 'tenchi in tokyo' say that she was a christian in a televised interview{i forgot when it was on,but i think they were interviewing the voice cast of a christian childrens animated series, where she was one of the voice artists for the show}, but don't quote me on that ,ok.

I know that was directed towards me. I was not complaining, I was sharing something that was on my mind and I find it weird for a Christian to do the part of a potty mouth athiest.

Also, you said "Just because they say it in the show, doesn't mean they have to say it in real life". I see what you mean. When you're in a recording studio, you're in a fake world that really doesn't exist so your cursing counts as nothing.

Also, could you please stop tripleposting? Even though I'm not a mod, it's really taking up a lot of space in this thread.

Back on topic, it's cool to see alot of VAs I have heard of are Christians without me knowing it. Pretty interesting. I am so ticked that I was at church during the chat with Vic. Then again, church is more important than talking to a person online, famous or not.

Mr. SmartyPants wrote:Vic voiced Edward Elric, an atheist. He also did Kurz Weber, a perverted sniper.

I guess Vic is a perverted atheist sniper.

He also played a Nihlist Guitar player/MAGI operator on the Directors cut on Evangelion, and a CEO of a cleaning company who murdered somebody on Case Closed. And let us not forget, he voiced Dark (AKA The Phantom Thief) on DNAngel.

So technically, our friend Vic is a Perverted Atheist Sniper Nihlist Guitar Player Executive Killer Thief. Heck of a resume, no?

(We're NEVER getting him back on this forum...:shake: )

Interesting role for him to take, eh?

Anyway, on the subject of Christian V/A's using foul language in their works, I don't really see anyting wrong with it. They're playing a role that's separate from their own personal lives.

IMHO, God sees that, and He knows that those words they're saying aren't in their heart. Take Vic...Vic... (Insert Weird yet cool last name here). During FMA, and in other roles, if I'm not mistaken, he used a lot of foul language, and Ed was an admitted athiest (sp?) But once the microphone is turned off, he goes to church and praises God just like anyone else. So, just because a person USES that type of language in an anime, they're just voicing their characters--NOT themselves.

Ah...I never thought about it that way.

Swears are just words. If the meaning behind the swear is what's on your heart, THAT'S what makes it bad.

Ok.
Though personally I perfer Patamon and Gatomon the rookie forms of Angemon
and Angewoman,as they're a bit hilarious especially Gatomon as she tries to be
overly too serious at times.

Actually,Gatomon is a Champion Level Digimon,I should Know since im a digimon fan. Edie Mirman also plays the voice of Gatomon as well. And Eventhough I like Gatomon,I like her 2 digivolved forms,Angewomon and Ophanimon Better.

Now Back On Topic, I was quite surprised to hear that Kyle Hebert is a Christian. Wow who would've guessed? but than again, who would've guessed that Steve Blum was one as well. I also heard that Derek Stephen Prince is an athiest, but i'm not sure.

The only sure way of knowing is if they mention what they believe on their official
websites.I mean, yes it is nice to hear gossip that someone might be a Christian or even just a Theist, but unless they say it themselves there is always the need to be a bit cautious.

I think "cautious" in this case mainly means to be just aware that just because something may or may not be insinuated at times by a person's words and/or actions, it's not always the safest thing to assume something with certainty, especially when it concerns personal beliefs. Now, I'm not saying that everyone who's a Christian VA should stand up with a freaking banner that says "Hey! I'm a Christian" (if anything that might put their potential ministry platform in jeopardy O.o), but at the same time, having a certain degree of forwardness or honesty about what you stand for is necessary. Check out this interview with Vic for example; he is neither abrasive or cowardly about his beliefs. He makes his point about where he stands without sounding like he's pompous or shoving or selling something :-)
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/columns/sunday.php?id=40
Scripture says that you will "know a man's faith by the fruit of his deeds." There's also the verses that talk about faith without deeds being dead and vice versa. If there's anything we can do, it would be to just consistently pray for VAs that we respect/admire, heck all of them for that matter, that they'd meet people and be placed in circumstances that would present them with an accurate portrayal of God and His character and His passionate and loving pursuit for our hearts. For those that are already saved, even the ones that we aren't entirely sure of yet, that they'd be given the chance, as Vic has, to be able to explain that personal aspect of their lives, such as in an interview setting or something like that.
