Anybody else have love for instant noodles?

Postby Denimcat » Tue Jul 11, 2006 5:43 pm

I was thinking how fanatical I must be recently, because a friend of mine is trying to bribe me into cosplaying with 4 trays of Maruchan yakisoba (teriyaki flavor).

To me, this is like a promise of cuban cigars, and the two of us are always trying to find new kinds, and on several occasions we've mailed each other new kinds. o.O

Does anyone else stare at the foreign food aisle and anaylze two dozen varieties of microwave/stovetop noodle?

Heh...

The only kind I have tried is the typical Roman Noodle packages most people eat. I must say...I was not rather fond of it :grin:

Well, the first couple times I ate it it was okay. But once I found a puch of seasoning neatly opened and spilt all over the bottom of the package. Not that big of a deal, but it kinda turned me off of it :P

But maybe I should try some others...

Try some jin-ramen or shin-ramen. They're some pretty good korean brands.

I have found most Korean instant noodles too hot (i.e. the chilli flavour) for me. But they do taste pretty good. :)

I'm quite addicted to the Nissin top ramen noodles at the moment, especially the teriyaki chicken flavored ones. Bad for my health, I know, but oh so good to my taste buds. lol ^^

I used to love ramen. Then I had to eat it every day for 6 months. Now I can't stand the smell of it.

Ditto, nostalgia junkie. Although I like them pretty well thrown into ramen cole slaw. Sounds wierd, I know, but tastes oh so yummy.

INGREDIENTS:

* 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
* 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
* 2 tablespoons white sugar
* 1 (3 ounce) package chicken flavored ramen noodles, crushed, seasoning packet reserved
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
* 1/4 cup sliced almonds
* 1/2 medium head cabbage, shredded
* 5 green onions, chopped

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, sugar, ramen noodle spice mix, salt and pepper to create a dressing.
3. Place sesame seeds and almonds in a single layer on a medium baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven 10 minutes, or until lightly brown.
4. In a large salad bowl, combine the cabbage, green onions and crushed ramen noodles. Pour dressing over the cabbage, and toss to coat evenly. Top with toasted sesame seeds and almonds.

There's that entire discussion about ramen in the Dual ep. Hard Case where Commander Sanada is doing an entire monologue of the delights of ramen as THE
junk food before he and Kazuki are interrupted by Mitsuki.

I like raman...I also quite enjoyed the tastes of various other asian noodle dishes that I've had, such as Sobaghetti, yakisoba and one or two others which the names are escaping me at the moment.

My trusted flavor is Sapporo Ichiban chicken flavor, I see at as the stock, no-thrills, but danged good variety. I like it best if I add minced onion and dill weed in epic quantities.

Come to think of it, Maruchan must be win, because I love their picante chicken flavor as well (excellent when you have a cold).

Another fantastic one is Annie Chung's thai tom yum soup.

It's hard for me to find many good noodles, because I'm too paranoid to eat anything with more than 30% DV of sodium..

I usually have some variety of Nissin Instant Damae Ramen. Good default choice that has served me well for years.

Oh yeah, Maruchan PWNS. I've tried Top Ramen, and I didn't like it as much. I think they use different noodles. Of course, my favorite flavor is Chicken Mushroom.

I'm in the middle. Instant ramen is okay, in small doses. If I'm forced to eat it consistently, I get sick of it. Indeed, there was a time in my poor college life when I had to eat nothing BUT instant ramen for about two weeks straight.

After that, even the sight of ramen made me sick to my stomach. But I have gotten better, and as long as I don't eat ramen every day, I like it. ^^

I've lost my love for instant noodles.

(I should write a poem about it.)

I've had some Annie Chungs stuff...I can't remember what flavor though. Anyway it was pretty good.
