I saw a legit Season one Ranma at FYE but it was 100$ and that was all I had so I got three other things instead.

I haven't seen the anime, but I've read some of the ranma 1/2 manga which has been rather good so far. Shooraijin or Rev, what percentage of closeness(for lack of a better term) do you think there'd be between the anime and manga?

It's fairly close (I guess 70-80%?), though there are some characters that just don't ever appear in the anime, and one anime character (Sasuke) who was completely fabricated and never appeared in the *manga* at all. Also, the final "wedding" (volume 38) is never animated, which is a chronic disappointment to Ran-maniacs. :(

Oh, everyone knows that -- Rumiko even said as much in several interviews. :) It's just never animated, and strictly speaking,
it doesn't even happen in the manga, although it almost does.
No real difference. Viz is issuing all of it's titles in a less expensive format, $9.95 per volume (top pic) as opposed to $15.95 per volume (bottom pic).

One has to remember that the Ranma 1/2 anime began soon after the manga got underway. When the anime caught up to the manga they had to start using more and more filler episodes to keep things going week by week. So, even though it had a long run of 161 episodes, the anime only goes up to the introduction of Ranma's mother as it was cancelled long before the manga stopped.

Yes, the anime took a lot of liberties with characters, adding some like Sasuke and continuing some that Takahashi eventually dropped all together, like Dr. Tofu.
