What a way to finish a career, but we must renember that Zidane has been one of the best footballers of all times and he deserves to be honored for that.

JM who thanks Zidane for his impressive displays.

That was a pretty awesome game, but wow, that guy was really foolish to do something like that. That's how he's gonna be remembered...the guy who ended his career by headbutting someone and getting taken out of the game.

Duuude! I am so happy right now, it's great.

Italy's got it all; great food, great soccer, people with cool accents, the Vatican...

Tell that to Zidane, what was he thinking?

Well perhaps we should sum up a best and worst of the world cup stuff.

Here are mine.

Worst goal – Ghana’s penalty kick against the US in the group stage.
Worst foul – Wayne Rooney of England stomping on Ricardo Carvalho of Portugal.
Worst match – England vs Portugal for England’s poor performance. I have never heard my English friends swear so much, especially the day after the game.
Worst ref – Markus Merk of Germany.
Worst moment – English player Michael Owen’s reinjury during the game against Sweden.
Worst decision – The referee’s call of a foul on Grosso in the last seconds of the Italy versus Australia game.

And the other way.

Best goal – Maxi Rodriguez of Argentina scoring the game winner against Mexico.
Best foul –I have nothing for this one.
Best match – Italy vs France, they both gave it their all.
Best ref – Benito Archundia of Mexico.
Best moment – The US holding their ground against Italy while playing a man down.
Best decision – To toss out Zidane, had to be done, unfortunately.

Worst goal: Peter crouch hair climbing against T&T
Worst foul: Rooneys stump on Ricardo
Worst match: Swedem vs T&T
Worst ref: Got no names I renember
Worst moment: Argentinas defeat.
Worst decition: Giving France a penalty afte what would seem like a dive from Thierry Henry.

And the other way.

Best goal: Carlos Teves against Costa Rica I think it was.
Best foul: No entery
Best match: Netherland vs Portugal. Many cards.
Best ref: No names
Best moment: Seeing Roo and Ronaldo fight, yeah its a club reason for this.
Best decition: Sending of Rooney, though it was unintentional he showed no politeness or apologiseing what so ever it would seem. Ok to send him off I think.

But seriusly, I think that italian Materazzi might have provoked Zidane into that headbutt.

On the replays you could see that they were trashtalking each other, but still a headbutt was completely unnecessary.

Course, but I don't think Materazzi is excatly soft on insults when he wants to insult. He seemed to have been talking an awful lot about Zidane before the game if I am correct.

They were probably trash talking, but they way they were talking didn't seem to be that way. They both seemed pretty calm.

I'm sure he did, but Zidane could wait the match ended to hit Materazzi ^_^
Seriously, what kind of insult could provoke that stupid reaction during the final match of the world cup?? What words could make you forget you're playing an important match and that the arbiter(and the world) is watching you??
However, is not the first time Zinade loses his control during an important match...

Kyouki, thank you for the most entertaining link ever.

Digging around on-line, and I have no way to verify this, supposedly the Italian called Zidane a "dirty terrorist" because he's Algerian. Even so, soccer players almost always trash talk each other with everything they can think of as long as they think the referee is out of ear shot. Someone like Zidane should have heard it all by now and had enough maturity hopefully, not to mention experience, to not be phased by simple name calling. Besides, he has a reputation for dirty tricks; that was not even the first time he has head-butted somebody.

They said after the game that he had once stomped on someone's back.
