Hudson Taylor - in Manga!

Postby Galant » Tue Jul 04, 2006 11:00 pm

I just found out that OMF (Overseas Missionary Fellowship, and formerly Hudson Taylor's China Inland Mission) are going to be publishing a manga style version of James Hudson Taylor's life.

Too cool.

I think this is an idea I can approve of solidly, though I'm not so certain I'll read it. Do you know what the publisher's target audience is? It strikes me that they have a story to tell and that this medium might be an apt way to tell it.

Wow, this certainly looks awesome. I might look into this once they make it available for purchase. Hudson Taylor has been very inspiring to me.

It will be interesting to see how this comes out. I went through OMF on my short term missions trip this past fall, so Hudson Taylor is a familair figure for me.

You know, this might even be the first manga my wife ever reads...
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I think it's cool that they (OMF) are putting out a manga. It would be interesting being a missionary in Japan getting togather with artists that you've led to Christ and making a manga. I don't think that's what they did but it would be awesome.

Awesome. This could be a good tool, if it gets out.

The irony would be if it ended up in Bible Schools where manga had been banned before.
