Oo, Bono occured to me too. But lately I've been hearing alot of singers that seem to have been very, very heavily inspired by him. But he is the original ^^

Reese Roper, Karen Carpenter, Claudio Sanchez, Kevin Max. These are all already mentioned in here but oh well.

Um, I think Gackt and Hyde have really distinctive voices too.

If by that you mean Maynard James Keenan, I agree. Maynard has a very recognizable voice, and although I don't share his religious standpoint (as I'm sure none of you do) I have a great respect for his talents, as he is one of my favorite vocalists of all time.

Others I've thought of since my last post:
Ken Andrews (I dunno why this one didn't come to me quicker... >.>)
Johnny Whitney (you can't say otherwise, ask Kkun)
Claudio (sp? I'm not a huge Coheed fan, but you *know* when it's them xD )

Ben Folds; Mick Jagger; John Flansburgh; Chris Cornell; I would say Layne Staley and Billie Joe Armstrong, but so many singers since Alice In Chains and Green Day have tried to make their voices sound like them, so they'r not so distinctive anymore.

You sure about that? Most people aren't really even familiar with any industrial music which is underground, much less the even more underground Christian industrial music. Oh, by the way, Klay Scott's groups are pretty good, but hardly the best industrial music ever - my personal favorites right now are Mentallo & the Fixer and Audio Paradox. By the way, you ever listen to http://www.digitalgunfire.com or http://www.tormentedradio.com ?

As to the most recognizable voices, I would have to go with Elvis - any doubters try going into a Waffle House and playing him on the juke box.

That's true that Klay Scot's stuff isn't that well known...But if you've heard them than you'd recognize his voice.

John Schlitt (lead of petra)
Steve Taylor (not just for his voice, the guy's lyrics are beyond profound)
the lead singer of extol (the singer, not the screamer)
Eric Clayton of Saviour Machine
Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (just 'cus it's recognizable doesn't mean it's good)
lead singer of "the waiting"
Phil Joel and Peter Furler of the Newsboys
Michael Tait
Robert Plant (for those of you that are too young to know better, he was the lead for Led Zepplin)

....that's all i got for now, if i had more time i'm sure i could prolly rattle off about a hundred more that all stand out in our minds
'nuff said

That's the point I was trying to make with everyone that I listed. Once you've heard them, it's impossible not to recognize them.
